A friend recently asked me to do a little business for him, and that business was check out this band, Phosphorescent. I accepted the challenge and find myself quite anxious to post the results, the band is really solid. The band is basically structured around singer/guitarist Matthew Houck and as the Phosphorescent MySpace [...]

Lions in the Street are one of those bands that you can’t help but enjoy. There is a great divide between groups who dabble as a full blown rock n’ roll machine and those who live it, Lions in the Street is the latter. Presenting a ying to the Toronto art-band scene’s yang, [...]

Would you expect anything less from The Henry Rollins Show at this point in time? Another great performance from another classic band.

I generally considered Matisyuha a joke when a lot of media was pointed in his direction a few months back. Then I listened to his performance from Bonnaroo and all that changed. His music is surprisingly fresh and his lyrical base is powerful. Matisyahu is no joke my friends, and if you haven’t taken the [...]

I’ve been interested in this band since I first heard interweb rumblings a few months back. Essentially it’s another “supergroup” filled out with the DeLeo brothers from Stone Temple Pilots, Filter’s Richard Patrick and David Lee Roth’s old drummer Ray Luzier. It’s one of those situations where I like the different pieces to [...]

I’ve been a fan of Mastodon for some time now, mostly due to the fact that the band melds a unique blend of intricate guitar into its heavy rhythmic base. These new songs, coming from the band’s upcoming release, Blood Mountain, sound historically Mastodon, and that is most definitely a good thing.

Midlake is a strange band, being one that is truly deserving of being at the center of attention within the realm of today’s indie rock scene. The band’s latest release The Trials Of Van Occupanther has been target to overwhelming acclaim. It could be likened to a completely pure retrospective effort, one that [...]

One of the greatest points of interest on Sinner comes from its liner notes, “Thanks” in particular, as it drives an interest into where this new Joan Jett is coming from. Steven Van Zandt, Fugazi, Social Distortion’s Mike Ness and Rancid’s Lars Fredrickson among a laundry list of others are all named. See, despite [...]

As time progresses and this band’s latest plunge into the world of rock it’s great to see a lot of general acceptance of it and its music. There have been a lot of great appearances which have helped boost interest and this performance really caught me off guard. Though Maher comes off as [...]

I am extremely excited to see The Lips next month and this performance piece doesn’t nothing to calm my enthusiasm. Dancing alien babes, galloping Santas, giant robots, balloons and more…commonplace really…and I can’t wait (duh).

I’ve supported the band since before the release of Are You Nervous? and I still believe that Rock Kills Kid is one of the better synth-rock bands with a release this year. Seeing the band live really had an impact as well, as the band worked so completely smoothly despite being a younger band [...]

Keeping in line with recent performances from the New York Dolls comes another performance by punk pioneers, the Buzzcocks. I’m not as impressed when comparing to the Dolls’ recent performances, but the band still sounds terrific and it’s a definite treat to hear a modern live version of “Ever Fall In Love!”

I checked out this acoustic performance from Korn on a whim. How could the band possibly transfer to an acoustic sound and still maintain any sense of regularity? Well, it does. Korn sounds surprisingly good acoustic actually and I highly recommend checking it out.

I’m not sure whether or not there is backlash or lack of support for the album due to overhyping or general Jack White-iness, but Broken Boy Soldiers is one of the best albums of the year thus far and any release from it, as this video, should be celebrated (even if only for a little):
