The song in question being Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.” I remember hearing the Ted Leo cover earlier this year and really digging it. I don’t think I had heard the original version at the time, which gave it that much more of an impact. Yeah, we’re millionaire (pural) (and how!) but we still know our musical roots…well, maybe not, but this Velvet Underground “shout out” might explain the cocaine addiction, if nothing else. Which leads me into this: there’s going to be a release of The Velvet Underground’s reunion shows in Paris in 1993. Tragically, those will be the last shows with the original line-up as guitarist Sterling Morrison died of cancer in 1995. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a year later. To mark this news, I’ve got something fun.
