Jonathan Meiburg, formerly the keyboardist for Okkervil River, takes the reigns as lead vocalist on the band’s latest album Palo Santo. Originally started as a collaboration between Okkervil’s Will Sheff and, then Kingfisher, Meiburg, the group has now expanded to including a vast depth of musician including Thor Harris (drummer and vibraphonist), Howard Draper (also of Okkervil River) and Meiburg’s ex-wife Kim Burke (standup bass). The band wades through banjo and piano before surrendering to light tender ballads. And as one of Pitchfork’s Most Overlooked Records of 2006 the band is strengthening its stance as less of a side project and more of a main stage attraction.

I completely agree with you on this album being completely overlooked by the blogging community and music world. One of my favorites of the year so far.
