I appreciate you passing it on! Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of seeing him live, he came through Minneapolis not too long ago but ticket prices were out of my league - maybe next time I'll be a little better off and able to check the man's show out. Agreed, the man is under appreciated as a poet - I look forward to what he has to say in the future.

thought you'd like to know that i've passed this along to friends of mine that really like neil. i've especially liked ordinary people and listened to it alot. then read this and appreciate his song writing genius even further. he is an amazing poet, storyteller, musician, etc. i've never seen neil live until this past month or so. now i've seen him twice. spokane opera house & chicago theatre last monday. intense experience seeing a legend in such intimate venues. anyways, thanks again!

Thanks for this great, thought-provoking post. Taking it one day at a time is what I'm going to try doing also. It isn't a coincidence that I decided today to check out blogs I'd bookmarked a long time ago. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! :)

I'm on this site, all the time (mostly for the mp3s of late night tv performances). This site was brought to my attention with your month long contest back in September. Anyway, I never feel compelled to leave any kind of comment. But I had to say, this post was really good. I really enjoyed reading it. I look forward to playing the song (I'm part of the 0.00083% of the population who knows less than 3 songs by Neil Young), and then reading this post again. Very good post, I enjoyed it very much. Peace

Thanks for the kind words! It's real humbling to know that anyone reads this stuff, especially someone from the other side of the planet. Unlike yourself I find my age somewhere around 24ish, so as you've been down that road I hope you can appreciate just how confused I am. Rather than attempting to figure out the direction of my entire future I think it's better than I take it one day, or week at a time. Hopefully next year's American election brings a bit of hope with it...one can still dream.

Hi there
Beautiful post. I'm from Australia and have never seen Neil Young live, but have loved his music since I was 18, and thats a long time ago now. Neil is only a little older than I am. Especially liked your comments re the difficulties we all face in designing or living a sustainable future - Bush and Australia's Howard appear to be doing everything they can to destroy everything I value - like social justice, legal rights, public education, clean air, the bush (or the forest in US speak?). Each year it gets harder to swallow all their shite. But each year I hang in there, occasionally moving back into the forest to protect some old growth forest. I suppose I do it for my daughter really.
Good luck and keep the good music flowing!

I agree - Look at 'Greendale' - it both rocks and tells a great story that only Neil Young can tell.

For me it also goes back to 'Silver & Gold'...that's when I stopped passively listening to Young and became an honest fan of what he had to say. Mind you, I listened to 'Mirror Ball' a lot, but alas, I was young and I first purchased it because of Pearl Jam's inclusion.

Since then, with the exception of 'Are You Passionate?' I honestly feel like Young has released something special with each new record.
