The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Ani DiFranco has always held a strange place in my heart. There was this girl I knew in high school who was completely stunning; she was the neo-hippie, DiFranco, Harper, type. Though I knew of DiFranco since before my time hanging around with my friend I found that my connection with Ani’s music grew stronger with me as my friendship faded with this girl. The new album, Reprieve, should continue to delight with the amazing poetic flavor Ms. DiFranco has proven to be capable of.
