The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

A man that should need no introduction, Flash is one of the faces on hip hop’s Mt. Rushmore. While some legends coast by on their reputation, Flash (a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer) has stayed sharp, touring regularly around the world. Pay respects and dance the night away all at once. Once again The Varsity Theater will be host to the delirious circus of machinations that is DB.

This one is special. All the proceeds for the show go towards building water tanks in remote Kenya for the Maasai tribespeople who live there.

And there is a completely fantastic line up to boot.

    The scenario:
    DB
    Best Friends Forever
    Solid Gold
    Lookbook
    18+, $6 advance, $8 door
    Doors @ 9:30, Music @ 10
    The Varsity Theater

    Advance tickets are available here:

This was my pick of the week before i found out about the National Conference for Media Reform’s AFTERPARTY tonight (saturday) at the Kitty Kat Klub. Toki Wright, Big Quarters, Black Blondie and more. 10pm. 21+. Another good option to keep in mind.
