The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. Electric Fetus: 9:30 First Come-First Serve (limit 350 entrants)

I generally try to pick a hip hop show for my pick of the week, but there’s a whole bunch of great non-hip hop events this week: the Haley Bonar CD release Thursday at the Varsity, Gogol Bordello Thursday at the Cabooze, Angie Stone Saturday at Epic and Roma di Luna’s CD release Saturday at the Cedar…not to mention the Glow in the Dark tour (Kanye West, Rhianna, N.E.R.D. and Lupe Fiasco) Wednesday at the Target Center. If I were you and you were rich, I’d go to all five. But if I have to choose one place to point you this week, it’d be HERE. Electric Fetus is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a series of in-store performances from Atmosphere & Brother Ali, Haley Bonar, Roma di Luna, Charlie Parr and more, as well as a big show Friday at First Ave. headlined by Doomtree.
