The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. atmosphere leak at will

From Slug via Rhymesayers, “hello party people. as we approach the launch of our new digital online store anthony and myself have put together another project that we are giving away for free to any of you who sign up for a user account on our online store www.FifthElementOnline.com. the project is a 7 song ep called LEAK AT WILL, and it was a lot of fun to make. nothing too serious, just smiles and cries. consider it another “thank you” for all of the support you have offered us over the years.

And the thank you is a good one, offering up a solid mix of new tracks tight enough to float any Independence Day party into the break of morn (though at 20 minutes, you’d be wise to refrain from leaving it on repeat all night). The best of bunch is the EP’s opening song, “C’mon,” which leaves me feeling like RZA just stomped on my head with some sort of “Gravel Pit” reprise. But in a good way.

I really like this new stuff. For anyone in the New York area, Atmosphere is playing later this month (27th) at Webster Hall; hopefully they’ll perform some of these new tracks.
