I arrived at day three of the Pitchfork Music Festival roughly five minutes before the start of Frightened Rabbit’s performance, and the Scottish four-piece really got my day off to a great start with an engaging and lively 45 minute set.
My first time seeing the spectacle that is the Mae Shi coincided with the group playing its final show before splitting up into two bands: the Mae Shi and the Signals.
DJ Boogie Blind of the X-Ecutioners kicked off the set with an extended hype-session that prepared the crowd for the energy that would eventually exude from the stage.
Playing to the day’s largest crowd, the National delivered a stirring, emotional set that not only showed that it has the capabilities to enthrall a massive audience with its quiet, somewhat delicate songs, but also has a mass appeal that warranted Saturday night’s headlining spot.
With a little help from mother nature, the Antlers provided one of the more arresting moments of the festival.
Saturday’s performance lived up to my lofty expectations and more as the young four-piece band delivered what was my favorite set of the day.

If Beirut was the only band playing the Pitchfork Music Festival I would have still came, such is my love for the New Mexican band.
The three piece group out of Montreal, which plays folk-y indie rock, blasted through a great 45 minute set that highlighted the songs on its amazing LP Parc Avenue.
Saturday afternoon started off the same way it ended Friday night, with some good old fashioned indie rock guitar heroics.

Built To Spill had the unenviable task of following up the Jesus Lizard’s explosive set, and at first their performance suffered from a letdown in energy and a rather curious string of songs to start out the show.
