Thump. Thump. Thump.

Oh my god. Considering that this is my most anticipated album for the past two years, I was incredibly excited when I saw this stream for the upcoming Bloc Party single (and no, I did not download the leak).

Tonight make me unstoppable.

On my inaugural listen I thought, like I always do when I listen to Bloc songs for the first time, yeah, this is going to take some getting used to. Well, a few hours later and the song still on repeat, I certainly got used to it. This song is machinery. I have visions of stormy clouds and massive, thundering machines trudging out in the dark.

And I will charm.

When you listen to the lyrics however, they soften the harsh edges of the beats. The sheer humanity of the words overpowers the mechanised sound, turning into an intense, passionate piece.

I will slice.

Although it may be considered a far cry from their earlier work, there are still recurring elements of their debut in “The Prayer.” Their spectacular use of background vocals are particularly striking, and as always, their ability to make each instrument stand out on its own yet create a unifying sound overwhelms me.

I will dazzle.

Despite all the backlash, I still find myself floored every time I listen to “The Prayer,” I don’t understand how some fans don’t enjoy this song. Its not that Bloc Party have gone downhill, its just that you need to listen harder.

I will outshine them all.
