Norwegian born trumpet player Nils Petter Molvaer connects the smoothest of melodies with an intense Richard James-like electronic influence in what is one of the freshest musical moments I’ve heard in a long while. Now in his mid 40s, Molvaer, one of the most profound and touted musicians in Oslo, continues to deliver some of the most interesting compositions and arrangements of his career; and all this after receiving 3 Norwegian Grammy Awards and a German Record Critics Award. Adding a unique, superfluous touch to modern jazz also earned Molvaer’s ECM the honor of LA Weekly’s Jazz Album of The Year in 1998.
