Bands To Watch – The Upsidedown

The Upsidedown prolong the age of psychedelia chic in a time when it has become somewhat humorous. Ondi Timonder’s Brian Jonestown Massacre documentary Dig! took a look at how futile the relationship between the band (Anton Newcombe mostly) is with its music. Ultimately the destruction that takes place (and The Dandy Warhols subsequent detour from the genre) shadows much of the pain and hardship related to the the band’s success. The Portland based band seem to be free of that, the band seems to be free from this mock, and the band is fairly pain-free on the surface. There isn’t an explosion to the band’s sound, but it finds a spirit of mild brooding balanced somewhere in between the slick upscale atmosphere surrounding the Dandys and the DIY (with the help of others of course) BJM sound. With a sound a little less powerful than The Morning After Girls The Upsidedown sell contemporary psychedelic music as something that’s for real.

i like this band, i think they are the real deal…you can hear the soul in their songs and if you know the story… some of them lived it… i was actually surprised to find culture bully was onto them.
