#8) Sigur Rós “Gobbledigook” (album review)

Though not as amusing as BPA’s “ToeJam,” the volume of artistic nudity in “Gobbledigook” may never be challenged!

#7) Justice “Stress” (live performance review)

Who knew the French could be so unruly?

#6) Fleet Foxes “White Winter Hymnal” (album review)

Claymation has such a unique innocence about it; funny then, that “White Winter Hymnals” is about slaughtering babies. The message isn’t explicit, but I’m on to you Fleet Foxes…

#5) Björk “Wanderlust”

Björk. Yup.

#4) White Williams “New Violence”

Before Ratatat was getting all crazy with their videos, TV Carnage hijacked “New Violence” and made this gem. Never before have naughty police officers seemed to nice.

#3) Radiohead “All I Need”

“All I Need” isn’t nearly as visually groundbreaking as “House of Cards,” but its weight is immeasurable.

#2) Shad “The Old Prince Still Lives at Home” (album review)

… And that’s how he became the prince of a town called London.

1) Gnarls Barkley “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul?” (album review)

By my mom’s estimation, this is the saddest video of the year. I just thought it was creative.

lovin the videos. and Fireworks + Feist = every dream Stephen Colbert has had this past year. Classic.

  • glad you’re diggin it, thanks for checkin ‘em out Brody!

  • I’m with your mom (not literally, of course), that Gnarls video is quite sad-innovative, but quite sad. Great list, especially the Bjork and Radiohead videos (which might have my vote for saddest video of the year). I really loved the video for Okkervil River’s ‘Lost Coastlines.’ Have you seen that one? Cool vid. Nice work with this list, way to keep it to just 10 (I mean, what kind of stupid site would do a Top 40 videos of the year, anyway :)

  • I don’t think I saw one music video this year, so I could not be further from a relevent source, but these videos all seem pretty cool.

  • I want to give an honorable mention to Shinichi Osawa’s Star Guitar… that video is awesome… not the most original concept, but it’s vibrancy and pop make up for any of that!

  • where’s that Flying Lotus video?!? that shit was hilarious!

  • Good picks. I have to say that I agree with most of them, except for Gnarls Barkley at #1.

Take a look at this top 10 list:

  • Awesome picks, I am loving the eclectic mix and that most of the videos aren’t from the ‘mainstream’ crowd.
