Broken Bells perform “The Ghost Inside” on Late Night

[via The Audio Perv]

Rather than unveiling “Vaporize,” the band’s latest single from their recently released debut album, the Brian Burton/James Mercer collaboration took to Late Night to perform “The Ghost Inside” last night. Unlike Tuesday night’s rendition of “The High Road” on the Late Show, the band’s Late Night performance seemed far more casual and slightly subdued. It could have been that this was Broken Bells’ second late-night television spot of the week, or maybe that Fallon lacked the sharp quips that Letterman shot off before and after Tuesday’s performance, or simply that the song is, well, more subdued itself. Regardless, “The Ghost Inside” leaves a far more Shins-ian feel than its predecessor.

Actually I prefer this more “casual” and “subdued” performance — it seems more heartfelt and engrossing. Plus the song is catchy as hell. Not sure why you’re slamming the band and Fallon for what seems like a great musical choice.

  • Don’t really think it was slamming anyone, just comparing the two. Chances are that if I thought it sucked I’d have said so… not sure how that was the interpretation here.

Unless it was the Shins reference… never been a big fan of those cats.

  • It must be the Portland connection, because to my ear Mercer borrowed the sound for The Ghost Inside from another Portland band, the Dandy Warhols. He owes them a big kiss for this.
