Broken Bells take “The High Road” to Letterman

Broken Bells, the collective led by the unusual pairing of Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and James Mercer of the Shins, hit the Late Show last night for the band’s network debut where they offered up a rendition of “The High Road.” The single was originally released late in 2009 (peaking at #36 on Billboard’s “Alternative Songs” chart) and comes from the band’s self-titled debut album which just saw its release this week. If you’re not entirely sold on the television spot however and need a little extra incentive to pick up the album, Letterman did his best to try and explain what is included with the release, “Not only music but some wonderful lovely items for you and the family contained inside the package: surprises and free balloons for the kids.” Letterman wasn’t far from the truth as the “deluxe limited edition music box” contains a 44 page pocket notebook, photos, illustrations, glow-in-the-dark stickers, a poster, and postcards. There’s probably a CD in there somewhere, too.
