This really review captures the essence of this album. I love Springsteen and I approach everything he tries with an open mind. But after being very unimpressed with the first couple hearings of the title track, I was afraid this would be another Devils and Dust or Tom Joad - a sincere effort that I'll play a couple of times and then never listen to again. Combined with the fact that most reviews have been pretty poor, I was going to hold off buying this. Your review opened my eyes to a new way of looking at these songs. This is a great work, and I could really use some of that optimism.

I figured a guy-in-the-know like Erik Thompson would eschew Bruce in favor of obscure steel drum trios from Sri Lanka (or something).

I'm so happy to see this review.

I didn't turn on to the Boss until 2002, when I was in Thailand and picked up The Rising on a lark. That amazing LP stirred up pride, sadness, patriotism and homesickness like few records ever have. From there I went to his Nebraska and Born to Run.

I've given Born To Run, the song, about 50 close listens and I think that, without a doubt, it's the most artful and powerful pop song ever created. Check my current facebook status - Michael Pugh wants to guard your dreams and visions. I mean that.

I can't wait to pick up the new LP. Your review makes me all the more excited. Thank you!
