Army of the Pharaohs is a collective that originated out of Philadelphia in 1998 under the guidance of Jedi Mind Tricks’ front man Vinnie Paz and they’re now prepping the release of their album The Unholy Terror.
The golden era legends haven’t had many hits since their earth shattering debut 93 ’til Infinity (recorded, of course, in 1993), but with Prince Paul on board to produce here’s to hoping that the old school crew can shine once again.
This album was so far ahead of its time that a psychic couldn’t even see it coming.
Though she doesn’t have the tightest flow in the world, her rhymes have a loose rhythm that is very much in keeping with the MC’s self immolating lyrics and stories of hardship.
If this record indeed stands as their swan song, they would be hard pressed to end on a better note.
“With You Alone,” in a fuzzed out, abrasive jam that gets in your space and bullies your eardrums with the threat of violence.
“Gettin’ There” has both Print & Illogic spraying their water like flow over an ominous instrumental. It sounds like this EP is going to be very interesting.
After all of the great albums the band has released the one that finds its way back to my stereo most often is 2002’s Kill the Moonlight.
No matter whether you are an audiophile or just someone who wants to party, Girl Talk has proven to be the best at what he does, with no better example than the amazing Night Ripper.
While the album as a whole isn’t as strong as Men’s Needs Women’s Needs, Whatever, We Were Aborted may be the most concise, anthemic song the group has ever written and is a stirring song that continues to highlight the strengths of this great band.
