Cloud Cult @ SXSW: WOXY Studio 03/17/2007

Thanks to WOXY for providing their in studio set with Minneapolis-based act Cloud Cult. The above picture comes from WOXY’s photo set of the band which can be viewed here. The short half hour session included a few songs from the group’s upcoming The Meaning of 8 release including “Chain Reaction,” “Pretty Voice” and “Chemicals Collide.” Along with the interview pieces the band also played “Washed Your Car” and “Son is Watching” a song I couldn’t place my finger on (can anyone name that tune?) which flowed into “My Little Sunshine.” (thanks Mike!)
I still wouldn’t say that I’m too familiar with the group but the interview segments revealed some interesting notes on the band. Some info learned: the band is based on the fantastic idea of non-profit band whereas no one in the group is focused on profit over their music, Cloud Cult has avoided major label interest due to reasons including their unwillingness to conform to the band’s environmentally friendly CD pressing standards and the group only sells organically grown cotton t-shirts. The unknown song is called “Son Is Watching”. They may have borrowed a line from “My Little Sunshine” for the song, but they didn’t actually perform a song of that title.
Thanks for the story & link!
