The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. Coalesce “OXEP” update

Anyone who wasn’t quite contented by Coalesce’s unbelievable 36-minutes of flame rekindling on this years OX, don’t fear. After going a decade without releasing an album, these pioneers of post-hardcore and metalcore are feeling prolific again, and have scheduled the release of OXEP as a follow-up companion to be ready for consumption November 10. While the band note that this seven-track all original release was conceived of in a separate writing session from the LP, they promise that it maintains the diverse, advanced dynamic that OX exhibited. Which is precisely why the name and the artwork match the title of that release. “Through Sparrows I Rest” is first song to be posted online from OXEP, and its raw balance of hate-saturated screams, jagged, sputtering guitar licks, and earthy soulfulness prove the band has put their money where their mouth is. Check it at their MySpace today.

OXEP will be available on CD and 12” vinyl and is available for pre-order at this location.
