The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

complete-clapton.jpg

(1) Complete Clapton CD, to replace that Complete Bangles disc that’s been in your CD player the past four months.

(1) Clapton: The Autobiography…and you thought that story about Zeppelin and that fish was raunchy, my friends – you ain’t seen nothing yet.

The contest open to US residents only (sorry international friends…not my decision!) – to enter simply leave a note in the comments section – maybe a comment about why the Calgary Flames are going to win the Stanley Cup this year, maybe your take on why the internet is going ga-ga for Ron Paul…whatevs, just leave a comment (and don’t forget to enter your email address, which won’t be shown publicly, so I can get in touch with you!). One person will be chosen at random & the contest ends next Sunday night, so…if you see this post on Monday, October 22, 2007 and would like to enter…my friend, you are too late.

Contest Winner: Sam W. from Louisville, KY

  • Scott says:

The interenet is obsessed with Ron Paul because these are people who like to mess with elections like the Vote for the Worst people (which could also explain why Hilary Clinton is currently leading the polls).

  • Chris DeLine says:

Clinton’s leading the polls? Oh man, looks like I might have to vote for Nader again…dammit.

  • Rockin' Rico says:

Ron Paulahol is my favorite drink…I’m a Ron Paulaholic! Dap SON!

  • Rockin' Rico says:

Empirical evidence has shown that many voters are strategic voters (Duverger 1954) and few waste their vote on a candidate that they neither like nor want to win. Most voters in today’s modern electorate vote for the candidate most likely to win, so the Ron Paul internet phenomenon is most likely due to dissatisfaction within the Republican Party at large. Many if not most Republicans feel as though a vote for a democrat would be nothing more than a vote for Satan, however with the crop of candidates available to republican primary voters, many republicans feel disenfranchised by the “middle of the road” political stands taken by many of the candidates. Ron Paul however offers a clearly different set of ideals. He is a federalist to the core and a small government supporter. While he may not be the most polished of candidates he certainly offers alternatives. Sadly so many candidates that do not tow the party line are concluded to be nothing more than radicals or shams; of which Ron Paul is neither. Lastly, at the fear of being cliché, if the last six years are not evidence enough that Washington D.C needs fresh ideas and a change of attitude, then Americans have missed the point. Democrats complain about a president who generally gets everything he wants then votes to give him another $150 billion to continue an unpopular war. Ron Paul on the other hand has never once voted to fund anything in this country. At least he is an alternative to the run of the mill candidates we have had in the past six years and perhaps, his supporters are not loony right wingers, but instead true patriots who only want America to firmly reclaim its place as the model country on this planet.

  • Scott says:

I do understand the allure of Ron Paul and agree with him on some issues and definately find him entertaining as a canidate. My main problem with Paul is that we need to get out of Iraq but there is a right way to get out and a wrong way, Pau’s suggestion is a wrong way.

And to your first point about people making strategic votes, which I completely agree with, the bigger problem is over the past two decade we have been resign to not vote for the best canidate, but the one we think will suck the least.

As for Clinton, I think the media wants you to think that Clinton is leading the polls so she wins the nominatation so they can hype a Subway Series between her and Guliani. She has a double digit lead yet I have yet to meet one person who has said “Yeah, she’d make a good president.”

P.S. Sorry for turning this contest into a political debate.

  • Chris DeLine says:

What is the right way to exit Iraq? And who are you suggesting as a suitable candidate in place of Clinton?

  • Ian says:

what’s with these homies dissing my girl why have they got to front?

  • Chris DeLine says:

Represent with some words playa…what makes her your girl?

  • Paul says:

I like EC alot…I think the Indians will win the World Series.

  • Chris DeLine says:

Not much of a baseball fan, myself…but I’ll take that bet.

  • Sam Ryan says:

    Free Clapton > Expensive Clapton

  • Matt Skvasik says:

EC is God…free clapton is fun.

  • watch out for the rockies
