The contest open to US residents only (sorry international friends!) – to enter simply leave a note in the comments section – maybe something about whether or not you care about what certain religious nuts or irrelevant celebrities are up to these days…or maybe just about how nice it is to be almost done with winter (don’t forget to enter your email address, which won’t be shown publicly, so I can get in touch with you!). Two people will be chosen at random & the contest ends Friday, March 21, so… if you see this post on Saturday, March 22, 2008 and would like to enter… my friend, you are too late.

man, i am NOT looking forward to the summer!!

my wife and i went to see this movie when it opened at the theater, it’s one of the best movies i’ve ever seen.

  • Oh come on lets just all admit it, everybody loves knowing irrelevant celebrities are up to these days! Besides, without them how would cable channels like VH1 find enough programming to fill up their schedule?

  • My favorite tv show of late is The Soup. I just started watching it religiously, mostly because I just got DVR. I can’t watch most reality shows–once in a while I’ll find myself watching Parking Wars–or irrelevant celebrity gossip shows, but when Joel McHale pulls clips out and makes fun of them, I can’t get enough. What gives? Has The Soup always been this good?

  • No idea if it’s always been as good as you’re suggesting it is…I remember watching it years ago and thinking it was horrible…all the same I think the show had a different host then, and that really makes it what it is.

  • Anyone know what’s different about this version than the others. I think this makes the third version of the same film being released(Regular, 2 Disc Collectors, and Extended Cut). I really hate it when movies are released multiple times with new “cuts” of the film. I think what really sets me off the most is that the new versions are released only a short time before the previous version was released. So 6 months after I buy the new “Extended Cut” we’ll have an “Anniversary Edition” a “BlueRay High Definition Edition” a “Sing-A-Long Edition” and countless others offering the same film and only minimal extra features. I think it’s needless to say I’m a bit outraged.

  • I’d be curious to see what’s on here and what was cut. Anybody else who has HBO is probably sick to death of this movie.

River Pheonix’s brother did an awesome job though.

  • my dad wanted to name me river, or mountain. river would have been ok i suppose, but mountain? really? thanks mom!

  • I know this one has a lot of documentary-type footage…much of which can be viewed on you tube…but you didn’t hear that from me

  • Count me in.

  • Blue cloudless skies. What’s winter? I got an email from a friend in Stockholm regarding horizontal icy rain…and my response was akin to Chicken Little had he a wireless card.

  • Funny you should mention how nice it is to be out of winter. I spent my winter in South Korea. Now, for many this would be exotic and interesting. And yes, yes, it was. But also, for me – a transplant to Los Angeles from the East coast at such a young age that my memories of snow are only being told not to eat the yellow type – Korea’s winter was a brutal wake up to the face of a truly cold winter. I used to think I would love a cold, winter with the majesty of snow fall and the excitement of heavy jackets. But lord, having to get ready an extra 20 minutes early just to “gear up” for the cold, needing to find the quickest way anywhere and everywhere just to avoid exposure to the outdoors, these were less than exciting.

… for the sake of brevity, i second your thoughts. it is nice to be out of winter!

  • I like the summer. Count me in please.

  • I’m a big fan of summer as well.. And of this movie. Never ended up buying a copy

  • This is a story of when my mother saw Johnny in concert while she was an 18 year old nursing student in Duluth in 1966. He was playing 2 shows that day and my mom and her friend had tickets for the matinee show. She was a massive fan and was devastated when they got to the theatre and discovered the matinee show was canceled allegedly due to Johnny feeling “ill” (an obvious cover for him being too messed up to perform). Anyway as a consolation they were given vouchers for the evening performance. With time to kill before the show, my mom and her friend started hanging around the dressing rooms trying to get “backstage”. That’s when my mother got propositioned by Johnny’s brother, Tommy Cash who was traveling with him at the time. He started to chat her up and in an effort to butter her up some more, he took her backstage to meet Johnny. She has photos of meeting Cash looking painfully gaunt with incredibility dark and sunken eyes. He signed her program and disappeared to rest up for the evening show. At this point Tommy made it pretty clear that they still had some time before the show to get better acquainted. Apparently my mom was dating a guy at the time, so Tommy only ended up with a kiss for his effort (or so that’s what my mom claims). It’s wild to think of my mom in that situation but I always love hearing her tell the story. This has nothing to winter or summer but I think it is a interesting tale to tell.

  • I’d never eat a fly. Honest.

  • That’s a wild story – thanks for sharing Scott!
