This is a story of when my mother saw Johnny in concert while she was an 18 year old nursing student in Duluth in 1966. He was playing 2 shows that day and my mom and her friend had tickets for the matinee show. She was a massive fan and was devastated when they got to the theatre and discovered the matinee show was canceled allegedly due to Johnny feeling "ill" (an obvious cover for him being too messed up to perform). Anyway as a consolation they were given vouchers for the evening performance. With time to kill before the show, my mom and her friend started hanging around the dressing rooms trying to get "backstage". That's when my mother got propositioned by Johnny's brother, Tommy Cash who was traveling with him at the time. He started to chat her up and in an effort to butter her up some more, he took her backstage to meet Johnny. She has photos of meeting Cash looking painfully gaunt with incredibility dark and sunken eyes. He signed her program and disappeared to rest up for the evening show. At this point Tommy made it pretty clear that they still had some time before the show to get better acquainted. Apparently my mom was dating a guy at the time, so Tommy only ended up with a kiss for his effort (or so that's what my mom claims). It's wild to think of my mom in that situation but I always love hearing her tell the story. This has nothing to winter or summer but I think it is a interesting tale to tell.

Funny you should mention how nice it is to be out of winter. I spent my winter in South Korea. Now, for many this would be exotic and interesting. And yes, yes, it was. But also, for me - a transplant to Los Angeles from the East coast at such a young age that my memories of snow are only being told not to eat the yellow type - Korea's winter was a brutal wake up to the face of a truly cold winter. I used to think I would love a cold, winter with the majesty of snow fall and the excitement of heavy jackets. But lord, having to get ready an extra 20 minutes early just to "gear up" for the cold, needing to find the quickest way anywhere and everywhere just to avoid exposure to the outdoors, these were less than exciting.

... for the sake of brevity, i second your thoughts. it is nice to be out of winter!
