Dan Deacon on MPR’s The Current
Fuzzy bearded electro-noise practitioner Dan Deacon stopped by Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current last week, the day after his performance at The Triple Rock Social Club. In between songs interviewer Barb Abney discussed a number of topics with Deacon including his history in classical composition and his thoughts on remixing his songs. The interview progressed with Abney examining the Baltimore/New York City Wham City collective. Before getting into a song from either his upcoming album (or possibly his upcoming EP) Deacon was asked of his role in Wham City, “I’m the king…I rule them with a gun that shoots swords.” And with that he tore into “Silence Like The Wind.”
Deacon’s Triple Rock performance was well received with openers Nomo and co-Wham City members Videhippos also having played quality sets. How Was The Show’s Jonathan Behm found himself deep in the midst of Deacon’s wildly unpredictable show, “You don’t go see a Dan Deacon show so much as you go to participate. Gathered in a mass around Deacon’s table, we danced, chatted and sweated along with Deacon and his wild antics. At one point he hugged one of the audience members and let them sing part of the song.” City Pages writer Nate Patrin concluded simply, “Get this man a television show. Now.”
Deacon will return in full fashion this fall playing the main room at First Avenue with Girl Talk October 5th.
