The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Daniel Johnston on The Henry Rollins Show

Daniel Johnston on Henry Rollins.jpg

Growing up with a close eye on the alternative music scene I was lead to believe that Daniel Johnston was some sort of mystical character with some of the most amazing music ever made. As I start to grow a slight bit older I’m able to see that the true beauty in his music comes from not only his fragile nature, which is so very abundant in this clip. Hopefully the release of his documentary is well received and allows Johnston to be introduced to the next generation of fan. (link)

thanks for posting this stuff! i am big fan of daniel’s work!

check out my “eternity’s end” at http://www.myspace.com/steinway. it contains a sample i made of daniel singing “forever” and “too long to wait” which i had the pleasure of capturing one night hanging out with daniel when he came to NY to play at the knitting factory.

the song was on an album put together by an artist friend of mine from denton, tx ron english (did the art in super size me) who’s good friends with daniel. i told him what ron (who wrote the lyrics) wanted the song to be called and daniel said “eternity man that’s too long to wait” and luckily i turned on the sampler right before he started singing!

    anyway thanks again for posting.
