Deluxe edition of Slayer’s “World Painted Blood” to include horror short

Submitted by Kip Gasparick on October 15, 2009 – 11:47 amOne Comment

Fans who purchase the deluxe edition of Slayer’s World Painted Blood will be treated to a 20-minute DVD titled Playing with Dolls that was created by Metalocalypse director Mark Brooks. The 12-part video was inspired by the Jeff Hanneman penned track “Playing With Dolls” from the new album. The film will blend animation and still-photography into a visual experience similar to that of a graphic novel, “It’s not live action and it’s not animated,” Brooks explains. “It’s a weird hybrid of the two, and I haven’t seen a lot of things done this way.”

This is no Sunday night episode of Dexter, folks… this is some pretty graphic stuff! The film follows in the footsteps of a killer and captures his gruesome extracurricular activities. You could say killing is his business… and business is good (sorry for the unnecessary Megadeth reference, but it fit so damned well). He’s not your garden variety murderer though, our killer is highly creative and chooses his victims very carefully. “It’s a little weirder than your regular blood n’ guts type thing,” Brooks says of the storyline, “which I think is a reflection of Slayer’s music.”

But make no mistake: there will be blood, and plenty of it. As the real-life boyfriend of one of the film’s “victims” told Brooks after a private screening, “I almost threw up while I was watching that. And I think that’s a compliment.”

World Painted Blood is scheduled to drop this coming November 3. Click here to pre-order now and receive a 24 x 36 “Skull Map” poster (while supplies last).
