Devendra Banhart “Seahorse” Video

Submitted by Chris DeLine on August 10, 2007 – 9:30 amNo Comment

This past weekend I looped the mezmerizingly lazy video for Devendra Banhart’s “Seahorse” over and over thanks to Gorilla vs. Bear’s post last Friday. The video, concluding after some eight minutes, bounds about all over musically: introducing a slow wavy tease before breaking into a bouncing piano (and eventually flute) harmony. Later breaking in with a heavier (in Devendra Banhart terms) guitar riff while revolving around the same whimsical lyrical base, Banhart eventually tops out, ending the video with a majestic beatnik two-man pan flute/Swiffer breakdown. Thankfully Pitchfork and Stereogum both unveiled audio accompaniment for the video yesterday, which means you can now appreciate the song without that nagging hippie propaganda.
