Doomtree’s Lazerbeak: Favorite Albums of the Decade

jay-z black album blueprint

#1) Jay-Z The Blueprint / The Black Album: I know that this is technically cheating with two albums, but I just couldn’t decide. Jay was absolutely untouchable on both of these records. The greatest of all time. [Purchase | Purchase]

#2) Cannibal Ox The Cold Vein: This came out around the time I had just started making beats, and it completely blew my mind from both a production and lyrical stand point. An absolute classic. I’m almost glad they never made another record. [Purchase]

#3) The Flaming Lips Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots: For some reason I just keep listening to this one to this day. Makes me feel really awesome. [Purchase]

#4) Hockey Night Keep Guessin’: I have no idea how this record somehow creeped into my top five, but I cannot fight it. One of my all time favorite bands to ever come out of the Twin Cities. The few shows that TPC! got to play with these guys were an absolute joy to be a part of. It is an eternal travesty that they had to part ways. [Purchase]

#5) The Killers Day & Age: Yikes! I know, terrible. One of my guiltiest pleasures. Oh well, I love the Killers and I can’t really explain why, which makes it hard when trying to convince people that they are actually good. They are a great American rock band though, and there are some pretty ridiculous saxophone lines and bongo parts all over this thing. [Purchase]

Freeway Philadelphia Freeway [Purchase]
The Hold Steady Separation Sunday [Purchase]
