Dr. Dre’s “Detox” Pushed Back to 2010

I want all of you to take a journey with me. Go back to November of 1999, and vision me as a 12 or 13 year old kid walking into Best Buy. When I walked inside the doors, it became apparent that I was only there for one reason. I rushed past the greeter and power walked my way to the rap aisle. Just as my eyes began to browse all of the name-cards in the bins, the name Dr. Dre stuck out like a sore thumb. I rushed to grab one of the hundred copies of 2001 on the shelf, as if they are all going to disappear in a split second. I immediately rushed my father to the checkout (he had to buy it at the time) so we could get home as soon as possible. Once home, all I did is listen to the album over and over—I was amazed.
Now, come back to present day 2009. I’m still anxiously awaiting the follow-up to 2001, 10 years after the fact. The past years have been littered with endless rumors and tales about Dre’s infamous album Detox, and by now the album is so far fetched, it almost seems like a myth. I, like many other fans, have found myself guilty of thinking the project will never see the light of day. After hearing Dre’s recent production on Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 I could only come to one conclusion however: I need new Dr. Dre. But on Tuesday I saw light at the end of the tunnel fade away once again.
According to a Hip Hop DX article, Dre’s fans will have to wait until next year to hear the album. Detox was originally supposed to drop in November or December of this year. I don’t know about you, but I’m really hoping for another classic album out of Andre. I guess only the test of time will tell.

Official release date: January 32, 2010.
As much as I’d like to say that I’m really looking forward to this album still… I’m not.
Been there. Done that.
