There is a unique juxtaposition between former Sleater-Kinney vocalist Corin Tucker and Eddie Vedder on “Hard Sun,” one that entirely reminds of that realized when Chris Cornell and Vedder melted “Hunger Strike.” Something that, speaking from a fan-boy’s point of view, I hope to hear more of before I pass on is Vedder duetting with other singers as his grunt is soothed and warped into something so uniquely beautiful when he does so.
Though far from his first solo material, his work for the Into The Wild soundtrack should be something special, and from the sounds of the album’s first single those sentiments look to be quiet true.
A thought that I had after recently finishing a Nirvana biography concerned what would have happened after Nirvana had broken up if Kurt Cobain hadn’t killed himself? Would Cobain have gone into hiding, would he have continued recording with Pat Smear in some Germs ode or would he have done the solo thing? No matter how gritty the subject matter would most likely have been, I honestly think Cobain would have ended up in a situation similar to Vedder…though I question whether he could have comprised a song that echoes such glowing beauty as “Hard Sun.”

Eddie Vedder “Hard Sun” (Feat. Corin Tucker) - Lyrics
When i walk beside her I am the better man. When i look to leave her I always stagger back again. Once I built an ivory tower so i could worship from above. When I climb down to be set free she took me in again.
There’s a big, a big hard sun, beating on the big people in the big hard world.
When she comes to greet me she is mercy at my feet. I see her inner charm she just throws it back at me. Once i dug an early grave to find a better land. She just smiled and laughed at me and took her rules back again.
There’s a big, a big hard sun, beating on the big people in the big hard world.
Once I stood to lose her and I saw what I had done. Bowed down and threw away the hours of her garden and her sun.
So I tried to want her I turned to see her weep. Forty days and forty nights and its still coming down on me.
There’s a big, a big hard sun, beating on the big people in the big hard world.

You should check out the original ‘hard sun’ by Indio.
Eddie Vedder does a good job, but nothing’s as good as the first one.

I had no idea! Thanks to the folks over @ http://kaninka.net/pallih/2007/08/25/eddie-vedder-og-hinn-dularfulli-gordon-peterson/ had the track up…
I don’t know, if I had heard it first I might agree with you…its grit is definitely overwhelming compared to Vedder’s, but his is just mammoth.
