I don’t know, if I had heard it first I might agree with you…its grit is definitely overwhelming compared to Vedder’s, but his is just mammoth.

You should check out the original ‘hard sun’ by Indio.
Eddie Vedder does a good job, but nothing’s as good as the first one.

Bought the Eddie Vedder Into The Wild soundtrack today..it was great as Eddie always is! About 4mins and 40secs after the last song you’ll find a hidden track.
