Chromewaves recently dismissed dismissing the latest Editors’ track, “As a faux music critic, it would make my life much easier if I were able to, in good conscience, dismiss them as Interpol knock-offs and go on with my day… but I can’t.” True, the similarities are blazing at times, but I too cannot help but enjoy the band’s single on a level that I will not ever be able to do with Interpol. Call me shallow, but whether it be my own personal mindlessness or just a factor of accessibility, Editors’ lyrics are something that I can pay attention to without having to continually identify deeper underlying meanings. Contrasting lyrics from “An End Has A Start” to lines such as “There are seven ancient pawn shops along the road, and the seven aging daddies you may want to know” (an excerpt from “Mammoth” taken from the group’s recent Our Love to Admire album) demonstrates little comparison to be made whatsoever.

And as for the video, it’s about as un-Interpol as a video can be (though it was shot in New York). Dancing women garnished in leotards bounding about a sound stage in unison; doesn’t exactly scream indie-chic, does it? The band recently played Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing two tracks, “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors” and this, the first single, “An End Has a Start.”

Finally, the band recently took some time to talk to The Tripwire about the creative process behind the video, touring and much more. One quote I enjoyed in particular was one of simplicity, yet tongue-in-cheekiness, from singer Tom Smith, “This is a pop song and we wanted to make a pop video.” Duh.
