why do you post all this eminem bullshit but sleep on the new manson album?

  • Marilyn Manson has not performed on television in support of his album. For two or three year’s the site has been regularly updated with musical performances on TV, these Eminem spots come as nothing new in that respect.

…that being said, I’d be interested in hearing the reasoning as to why one is bullshit and the other’s not, considering that they’ve both released albums recently that attempt to do the same thing.

Furthermore, why there might be the drop in first week sales on his new album, “The High End Of Low,” (coming in around 50k) compared to his last, “The Golden Age Of Grotesque” (which sold about 118k its first week). Considering that a decade ago there was a lot of crossover between fans of Eminem and Manson and each sold fairly similar numbers, what does it say about each artist that 10 years later Eminem is selling 12 times the number of records that Manson is. Is it that he’s 12 times “better,” or that Manson’s fans have simply become a bit tired of him peddling the same song and dance over and over again.

I’m fairly uninformed on everything and I haven’t listened to Manson’s new album (just its single), but Trent Reznor seems to think its the latter: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/06/02/trent-reznor-says-marilyn-manson-has-become-a-dopey-clown/

And from what I know of Trent, I know that he’s typically on the mark with most of what he says and does.

  • Nice page there buddy, great way to end it by saying you’re uninformed of the new album too. When i on the other hand have heard both albums. I was just disappointed we didn’t get a review of it considering i always love the reviews on this site. Also since when do record sales equate the quality of the music?

  • Thanks for the kind words Harry, much appreciated. I know the guys put a lot of work into the reviews on here and I’m sure they appreciate it as well.

As a fan, every time we go to a concert, buy a CD, whatever… we’re essentially voting for the music in question. That’s what we want to hear at a particular moment in time, and that’s what we’re putting our money behind, right? So the point of mentioning the album sales was simply to suggest that the quality of the material he’s releasing, at least as far as his fans are concerned–as they’re the ones who are voting with their dollars–has apparently failed to retain its appeal.

Regardless of whether or not you or I have listened to the album, that stands as a question… why is Manson’s new album not bullshit if his fans won’t even bother paying for it? Sure, 50k people is still a lot (a ton, actually) of people, but when the numbers indicate that half the people who were willing to pay for your album last time are willing to pay for it this time, that says (at least to me) that there’s some sort of question as to the quality of the music.

(Also, calling Eminem bullshit is fine by me, I’m not taking offense to that–I think most of Relapse is bullshit also. But I still happen to like a number of songs on it however… which might suggest that simply because I think “Arma-Goddamn-Motherfuckin-Geddon” is pathetic stab at regaining some of the appeal Manson had a decade ago, there are probably some songs on his album I’d like as well. I’m not trying to question your taste, just questioning your reasoning. Thanks for replying, gave me a chance to think about this stuff some more–cheers.)
