Eminem “Recovery” Review

With “Not Afraid,” the confessional single which drives Eminem‘s new album Recovery, the MC alludes to a change which has steered him in a new direction. Not only does he call himself out, admitting that last year’s Relapse was mediocre (“And to the fans, I’ll never let you down again, I’m back/I promise to never go back on that promise, in fact/Let’s be honest, that last Relapse CD was eh/Perhaps I ran them accents into the ground/Relax, I ain’t going back to that now), but he also showcases a new, refreshing perspective. “I’m not afraid to take a stand/Everybody come take my hand/We’ll walk this road together, through the storm/Whatever weather, cold or warm/Just let you know that, you’re not alone/Holla if you feel that you’ve been down the same road.” But despite the hook’s focus on redemption, the rest of Recovery does little to reinforce the idea that the new Slim Shady is really all that different from the old Slim Shady.

One of the biggest distractions on Relapse was Eminem’s failure to find a comfortable flow. Through the entire album he seemed to be scratching away at his skin, hoping to peel everything away and reveal the “real” Marshall Mathers. But he couldn’t: Forever falling back into various characters, Relapse receded into a record that failed to express Eminem’s talent, combed over with tired attempts at being provocative and shocking. With Recovery there is less of a sense of desperation which translates through Eminem’s lyrics, once again depicting the MC as the confident icon that his fans have come to love.

After reintroducing himself with “Cold Wind Blows” the MC lays down a series of lyrics in “Talkin’ 2 Myself” that erase any doubt that he has lost his touch. The introspective track finds Shady revealing many of the insecurities and fears that led to jealousy overtaking him; “I turned into a hater.” “Hatred was flowing through my vains/On the verge of going insane/I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne/It’s like I was jealous of him ’cause of the attention he was gettin’… Almost went at Kanye, too.” Reaffirming his feelings about Relapse Eminem continues, “This time around is different, the last two albums didn’t count: Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was flushing them out/I’ve come to make it up to you now, no more fucking around/I’ve got something to prove to fans, ’cause I feel like I let ‘em down.

“On Fire” follows, though it fails to retain the same level of emotion as “Talkin’,” replacing heartfelt confessions with soft one-liners, “Saliva’s like sulphuric acid in your hand, it’ll eat through anything metal, the ass of Iron Man.” Calling out Brooke Hogan and flaunting that he’s wasting punch-lines does little to help the MC’s cause here, leaving it as the weakest on the record. Pink opens the next track, gently moaning over an aggressive beat provided by DJ Khalil. The confrontational lyrics in the track lead to one of the album’s most unexpected moments: The record momentarily goes silent as the volume on the track is literally turned down, nearly muting the artist and the beat, “Tryin’ to turn me down, that’s why I’m talkin’ to you/Turn me up, what are you insane?

“W.T.P.” (“White Trash Party”) teases a few tight bars, “Even my dentist hates when I floss,” but the white trash theme is something too far played out for even Shady to reinvent, the drunk and disorderly theme coming off as stale rather than cheeky: “I don’t need a tank top to be a wife beater.” Sampling Ozzy Osbourne‘s unforgettable vocals from Black Sabbath‘s “Changes,” “Going Through Changes” follows and revives the album, Eminem examining his recent pitfalls and erratic behavior throughout the track. Recalling his lapse into darkness, the MC closes out the song by relating his issues to his now-optimistic state of mind, “I don’t know what I’m gonna do, but I’ll just keep on going through changes.” “Seduction” follows the aforementioned “Not Afraid,” its slow beat accompanies an awkward wave of lyrics that flaunt Eminem’s sexual prowess, relating his abilities to his lyrical technique. Like “W.T.P.” before it, the track has some strong lines but it ultimately adds little to the record.

Eminem’s contribution to Lil Wayne’s Rebirth,”Drop the World,” ended up being that album’s strongest track; fitting then that the Lil Wayne collaboration lands as one of Recovery‘s most well-crafted tracks. The immediately recognizable Haddaway sample helps introduce Weezy’s verse—the MC lending the track some of his most entertaining lyrics in recent memory.

“Throw dirt on me and grow a wildflower/But it’s fuck the world, get a child out her/Yeah, my life a bitch, but you nothin’ ’bout her/Been to hell and back, I can show you vouchers/I’m rollin’ sweets, I’m smokin’ sour, married to the game, but she broke her vows/That’s why my bars are full of broken bottles, and my nightstands are full of open bibles/I think about more than I forget, but I don’t go ’round fire expecting not to sweat… Be good or be good at it, fuckin’ right I got my gun: semi-Cartermatic.”

Eminem follows suit, standing firm and condemning the people who left him when he was at his weakest, bleeding hostility throughout the rest of the track, “I’m alive again, more alive than I have been in my whole entire life… They call me a freak ’cause I like to spit on these pussys before I eat ‘em/And get these wack cocksuckers off the stage, where’s Kanye when you need him?

“Space Bound” continues the retribution theme and “Cinderella Man” returns to lyrics that reflect his retrospective disappointment in Relapse, “Fuck my last CD that shit’s in the track, I’ll be goddamned if another rapper gets in my ass.” “25 to Life” further emphasizes Shady’s focus on returning to his prime, focusing on his torn relationships, but just as the record starts teetering on the brink of becoming repetitive Dr. Dre steps in with a dense beat in “So Bad.” In the track Eminem ties together a thread of bars that bounce right along with Dre’s beat, “There ain’t nobody as bomb as… me, I’m as calm as the breeze, I’m the bee’s knees, his legs and his arms/I’m a superstar girl, I’m ready for you mama, why you think the only thing I got on is my pajamas?” “Almost Famous” continues with a heavy bounce, Eminem immediately kicking down the door with reckless abandon, “I stuck my dick in this game like a rapist, they call me Slim Roethlisberger/I go berserker than a fed up post office worker.”

Rihanna introduces “Love the Way You Lie,” a sentimental track that surrounds eroding relationships; though Shady still finds a way to inject his ultra-violent lyrics amongst Rihanna’s brokenhearted chorus, “If she ever tries to fucking leave again I’m gonna tie her to the bed and set this house on fire.” This only goes to further emphasize the ever-polarizing aspect to Eminem’s records. Like each of its predecessors, Recovery is loaded with vulgar, sexist, and homophobic lyrics. Depending on how you approach the MC, you’re either going to focus on the intelligence reflected by the majority of his bars or take him literally and view him as an unforgivable bigot. The first track, “Cold Wind Blows,” stands as an immediate confrontation between Em and the listener, offering some of the album’s most outrageous lyrics as if to say ‘enter if you dare, but this is what you’re getting yourself into.’ In these terms he’s never been shy, and he’ll likely stoke the argument further with each new album he creates. It’s hard to overlook his lyrics, and the damaging effects they may have, but for each track that finds him assuming this crass character, there is a song like “You’re Never Over” that reminds the listener of Eminem’s humanity. The track is a rapid-fire lyrical assault that leans heavily on uplifting bars aimed at overcoming the grief associated with the loss of his longtime friend and D12 member Proof, “This depression ain’t takin’ me hostage… Lord I’m so thankful, please don’t think I don’t feel grateful, I do/Just grant me the strength that I need, for one more day to get through/So homie this is your song, I dedicate this to you.

It’s not any sort of revelation to find out what Eminem meant by saying that he feels like he’s a new person, the MC bluntly explaining that “the new me’s back to the old me” in “Talkin’ 2 Myself.” But what comes with this return is a renewed sense of clarity that has freed him of whatever was holding him back with Relapse. It’s one thing to say that Eminem is a changed person, and it’s another for the MC to actually come through with an album that reaffirms the statement. With Recovery he’s done just that. Perhaps it’s Eminem who should have released an album called Rebirth and not Lil Wayne, because with Recovery Marshall Mathers sounds more confident and clearheaded than he has in years, and it’s left the MC with one of his most complete records to date.

i disagree. this album is definitely a classic

    • this album is his worst ever…..his old song are so much better… toy solider, puke, git up (d12) 40oz(d12) beautiful, when i am gone, solider, without me, cleaning out my closet, just lose it…… my little bro likes this album nd he likes gedward, vinella ice and pop (this shows somthing about eminems music now)

      • i forgot to say that infinite was the best ever his first album

        • ok infinite wasnt very good at all. u could here his ability to ryme. there was nothing catchy. no good chorusus. t be honest they all sucked.the slim shady ep when slim shady was born is when he really showed his talent

best album of year hands down.
unless detox comes out..yikes, u gunna give that a bad review too?

  • SO DOPE, Im trying to get off drugs and booze right now and am feeling his vibe BIGTIME! I been listening to Em since ’99 when Slim dropped when I was 15, and this by far is his deepest album yet…THANK YOU EM, (and will go and actually pay for the album on the 22nd!) and not be a jew fuck just download it the day of the leak!! EVERYONE GO AND BUY THE ALBUM ON THE 22ND!!!

  • just stop.. open you mind guy. this review=garbage

  • Opinions are a great thing–mine is simply this: Eminem is back. Tight flow.

  • Ya….this guy don’t know his a$$ from a hole in the ground…I never thought i would say this but i think there is finally a album better than mmlp…i might buy 2 its so good

  • Medicore Review

    No flow on Relapse???3am??insane??hello??stay wideawake??

    but well…Medicore review overall

    Classic album!!!

  • I think this album is great.. it’s a must buy.. he found his flow, I think regardless of what people think about this album.. Eminem him self is probably happy as ever.. and I think that’s the most important thing about this album is that he found his true touch.. this album is all about him.. theres no insults directed to anyone.. its a simple reflection of who he is and he showed us just who he is.. he’s not just that sick/twisted rapper.. but also a deep emotional one at that.
This is deff a classic.. and should sit right beside his Eminem Show and Shady LP.

  • BEST ALBUM EVER MADE STRAIT!

  • Really good review. And for everybody, this isn’t a bad review. The last paragraph talks about how good the album is overall, although he does critique it where it has its shortcomings and gives it due praise where its deserved. I think there is a typo in the Talkin to Myself bit that led people to think this was a bad review. May want to fix that…

  • this reviewer obviously didn’t REALLY listen to the album…on “25 to life” he’s talking metaphorically about his relationship with HIP HOP. ……it is easily one of Eminems most lyrical songs ever…only at the end of the song do you know what he’s actually talking about….this is why people should listen to albums from people like Eminem at least 5 times over to get the real picture of what he’s trying to say.

  • Fact is that with this album, Eminem has proven he’s lyrically as good as there’s ever been. There’s not a single person on this planet that can touch him lyrically. And to be quite frank, he’s just embarrassed every single person in the game with this album. This is the return to rap and it’s got me more hyped for Detox, which hopefully continues this trend.

    Unbelievable album, lyrically superb.

  • yesssss! Personally I liked Relapse, It hit a nerve. But this cd is way fuckin better! Every way possible this is that record man!

  • I’m a huge Eminem fan and I think Recovery is a fantastic record, but this is still a great review. I agree with both the positive and negative comments. Obviously the album isn’t perfect, there are few that are (for perfect see Marshall Mathers LP), but it’s still far better than any release from comparable artists in hip-hop.

    Favourite Tracks:
    Cold Wind Blows
    No Love
    So Bad
    Talkin’ to Myself
    Almost Famous
    W.T.P

  • I think this is actually a pretty good review by Culture Bully standards. “More confident and clearheaded than he has in years, and it’s left the MC with one of his most complete records to date.” – that’s good stuff. I’m a big eminem fan and I wouldn’t say that this album even begins to contend with the albums pre-The Eminem Show, but it is better than Encore and Relapse. My biggest problem is the production. It gets a little bit commercial and soft in places. I wanted Dre back. Nevertheless, the majority of the album is very good, as open and honest as ever. I’d say 8/10

  • I love it.. this has to be his best CD hands down and I listin to all his cd’s & songs..

    Its so deep

  • This review is far from rational. First, everyone claims that Shady is back and all, but no one really knows who the fuck Shady is. Only Marshal knows. Second, Recovery relates to Marshal’s rehabilitation from prescription medication rather than his attempt to return to his old self. He has cleared his mind and is able to spit much better than before. Third, you did not focus too much on ‘Cinderella Man,’ which I think is the highlight of the album along with ’25 to Life.’Fourth, you have to give praise to the bonus track ‘Here we go.’ That is straight fire. And fifth, when an Eminem album has leaked or comes out, give it about a month before writing a review. Otherwise, your wasting your time (and now mine). Thank you!

  • Hmmm i disagree with the majority of that. And i think you could have discussed ’25 to life’ a little more, considering it pretty much describes Em’s beef with the genre of Hip-Hop, and explains his lengthy absence from the game. Oh, and the lyrics you’ve quoted from ‘Cinderella Man’ should read “Fuck my last CD that shit’s in the TRASH”, not “Fuck my last CD that shit’s in the TRACK”. Come on man, if you’re gunna quote something get it right, yeah? I can’t take a review seriously that criticises throughout but fails to quote bars correctly.

  • That’s a pretty fair review. I’ve only listened to it once so far, but “Recovery” definitely sounds like the best album Eminem has put out since “Marshall Mathers LP.”

  • This review is getting bashed, and for fair reasons, the person who reviewed the album clearly didn’t listen to it well enough to give it any well thought out criticism. 25 to Life is not about relationships, misquoted lyrics. Get you’re facts straight before you review an album, for that reason, this blog fails…I stumbled across it by accident through a google search, and I won’t be returning.

  • This review is epically generous. Bin this album next to Relapse.
    “I feel… I am… I should be…” CRY CRY CRY.
Bring me something real next time MM and I’ll post you a box of tissues for this wahfest.

  • why so much hate on this review? seriously, you Eminem stans need to back off of him. Was this a good album? Yes. Classic? GTFO. Best of the year? No, leave that for PackFM’s album…

  • This wasn’t a bad review, i just disagree with some areas. This album is definetely the best from him in a long time. He went hard on every track, lyrically he can’t be touched by anyone in the game. He changed a little bit but stayed true to his roots. Hottest songs are: So Bad, 25 to Life, Cinderella Man.

  • Just checked out the cd myself, gonna buy it on the 22nd. Think the review doesn’t do the cd justice.

  • thsi album is the shit!! Em is back, fuck this review. Who ever wrote this is getting shot!! Shits going platnum!! 1 000 000 sold in a week!! Im buying this shit at midnight!!

  • The fanboys dont like this review, somebody call the waaaambulance. Truth is that his review is extremely generous and the album sucks.

  • The album is going to be huge, for the public, and for eminem’s career. But I think that the review was pretty accurate. The fact that the best (and most popular) track on the album features weezy reflects that em needs some help. But comeback of the year, no doubt.

  • Are all y’all re-tarded? This was not a bad review. This is some of Marshal’s most complete work!

  • NOTHINGGG AT ALL COMPARED TO THE SLIM SHADY LP IN TERMS OF LYRICS
but honestly this change is good. Rather then listening to eminem and his corroding life, this album emphasizes his confidence in his career. for all those who downloaded it (myself) its important that we buy it to support eminem and this life changing work of art!
    grammys dont announce themselves!

  • All I Gotta Say Is This…Those Who Hate This Album, Like Em Said….Fuck Your Feelings…..Great Album Since Eminem Show…A Classic because it brings in the new with the old. This review didn’t really capture the feel of the album, cuz the whole album is full of emotion and delivers to the fans BIG TIME. Just wish it wasn’t leaked so soon or at all. Anyways this review needs some work…was fair in a good bit of places. N Once Again To Those Who Hate It…..FUCK YOUR FEELINGS!!!

  • This album is classic, my fav songs- cold wind blows, so bad, seduction, almost famous ,25 to life

  • this album was unreal, i feel eminem has really come back unlike that last shitty album with maybe two good songs on it and thats being generous. some of these songs are better then early eminem and early eminem was the best thing thats happened to music. overall this album is an easy 10/10.

decent review, could have given eminem a little more love though

  • This might be the best em album to date! I would put it up there with mmlp. I am glad he kept his word and didn’t use them goofy ass voices again. Once in a while cool but he did run that shit into the ground! I honestly believe the reason for the negitive reviews is that the people with the negitive shit really don’t even like em that much. To me there is no doubt that em is the best rapper to ever grace the mic. He will never get the credit because he is white! The truth is I have never posted anything on this kind of shit! I know everyone has their own opinion but if you respect a true flame spitter cop this album on the 22nd and for those who don’t you should probably make out with a shotgun! Em is back and on top of his game!

  • This is a really good review and I can’t see anything negative in it. I was hesitant to believe Eminem was back to his routine since he kinda burned me on Relapse, but so far this album is up there with his first 3 in my most humble opinion. His tribute to Proof on “you’re never over” is magic, i recall him worrying endlessly about how he’d never make a good enough song for him and it seems even to his surprise he did. Its a very emotional album and I don’t expect non-Eminem fans to love it. He’s come to grips with the reality that he neglected his fans and feels guilty about his sub-par material in the past and feels the urge to connect with them again. You can tell by his tone that this album is pretty much dedicated to his “hardcore” fans.

  • And 1 more thing hey jasper go back to listening to snow and house of pain or perhaps icp. Your either a hater or a fucking window licker!

  • this guys review is ridiculous, seriously did you listen to the album, i am hip hop dickhead, are you, do you know anything about em, or are you just writing a review with a biast opinion, see if i wrote an article about the boston celtics and the lakers it wouldnt be very good for boston fans because i fucking hate the cletics, do you get what i mean, are you just a slim shady hater, because this ablum is fucking amazing………what exactly are you listening too, and how are you listening to it, are you in your honda civic hybrid with your 6 by 9 speakers turned up or are you in a range rover with two 15 inch subs with the windows up smokin a blunt pullin up to a red light next to a cop car, and thinkin “i dont give a fuck, i work hard and i play hard, FUCK THE POLICE”, listen douche bag, do yourself a favor, if you like pussy and not dick and you plan on gettin some from your probably white ho, then pop it in again listen to it one more time, and re write your review, before she realizes shes with a lame ass dude that has the black eyed peas new album on repeat, slim shady, glad to have you back, its been a long time………….recovery,

  • Guys, I’m probably a “Stan,” and I agree this album is an instant classic. The guy who wrote this review didn’t really give it a bad review; I mean, shit, he said it was his best in years, and even the CD Em didn’t like, Relapse, got the Grammy for best rap album. Not to mention, though, if Em really wanted to, there are about ten songs he could Release as singles if he wanted to… it’s that good. And yes, I’m buying it on the 22nd too

  • Lol at the retards commenting about this review as if it was really that negative. It’s like they skim through it and if there are any criticisms whatsoever they get all upset… lol.

The album is pretty good, far better than I expected. Some mediocre production and annoying choruses but overall it’s his best album since The Eminem Show in my opinion.

  • lol man no flow on Relapse? Deja Vu is one of his best tracks to date, flow is on point. Eminem killed it. Exactly the album his fans needed. Dont bother reading this guys review if you havent already wasted your time, he only had it for 1 day, go peep it and listen to it in heavy rotation. 10/10 great album.

  • what the! this album is EPIC! CLASSIC! AWESOME! call it whatever u want. and no sir, relapse was EPIC too!

  • lol at all the stans throwing bitch fits about the review.this was a great review, didnt seem biased.the album was alright, no way in hell a classic.not even close to album of the year.co sign with the dude sayin PackFM’s was better.hell Distant Relatives and Revolutions Per Minute were better than this. and i have a feeling Pharoahe Monch’s W.A.R. will wipe the floor with Recovery when it comes out. I aint hatin, i just expected more outta Em. overall i give this a 6.5-7/10.hav a feelin this is gonna piss the stans off but its just my opinion.

  • This album was straight garbage. Won’t Back Down has to be one of his worst songs ever. I’m not hating or anything but you people saying he’s back or whatever…smh. I rate this a 2/5. The best song was Talkin 2 Myself. Eminem straight ruined it with his singing on the hooks. Ugh, this album was trash.

    Best in ’10 so far?

    Panacea – 12 Step Program
IDE & Skavenger – Addicted to the Vision
    Factor – 13 Stories
    PackFM – I F*cking Hate Rappers
Freeway & Jake One – The Stimulus Package
    Murs – Fornever

    ^^^Check those out.

  • this album is sikk for real…there are a few tracks that r bit dull but lyrically he is amazing.

“these shoes you can’t fill, shit, the day that happens the world will stop spinnin’ and michael j fox will come to a stand still”

“i’ll be nicer to women, when aqua man drowns and the human torch starts swimmin”

    lol

he is also trying to show every other rapper that he is on another level…

    “i’m a fire marshall, i shut this shit down…
your entire arsenal couldn’t fuck wit one round”

call it a classic or not, i dont care.

I think that he is the greatest rapper ever
    nuff said

p.s. i thought the review was fair.

  • luv those who luvs eminem

  • this album is defo a classic :]

  • To all the comments above saying how good this album is you all need to listen to some real and original Hip-Hop people. EM has not produced anything worth listening to since Marshall Mathers LP, period. He has become hypnotised by fame, money and attention, just like the likes of 50Cent and Lil Wayne (please do not even get me started on these buffoons and wannabe rappers)

You people wanna know what real, original and innovative hip-hop sounds than check some the following artists who are always sharp and on point.

    - Madvillain
    - Ghostface Killah
    - MF DOOM
    - Madlib
    - DangerDoom
    - The Roots
    - Mos Def & Talib Kweli
    - El-P
    - Company Flow
    - Cannibal Ox
    - Deltron 3030
    - Mr.Lif
    - Aesop Rock etc etc,

The reviewer here is being far too generous, this is absolute and utter garbage and a defamation to hip-hop and rap. Em has become to repetitive and lost his edge.

That’s all I got to say, peace.

  • I think its clear, that this album is to em’s fans who em let it down last year. Why u hv to coment on this album if u re not
    I.ll buy it

  • This album is garbage period. 1/5.

I have to wonder which rappers these guys listen to, apparently eminem is the best lyricist maybe if you only listen to Wayne and TI, what a joke!

  • I think the reviewer should take another listen to ‘Seduction’. I know the concept of a song long metaphor is tough to grasp for some people, but that’s what it is. His lyrical technique and his importance to rap are the dominant focus and as such, were addressed first.

The lyric quoted from ‘Love The Way You Lie’ is unfairly quoted, as it is used to reinforce the theme of the song and is the completion of a bar rather than a standalone lyric. The complexity of that verse is as such that taking a single line throws off the context.

WTP wasn’t an attempt at reinvention, rather it was a fun track in the midst of a serious and introspective album. What baseball afficionados would refer to as the 7th inning stretch.

Also, the album is far from being loaded with ‘vulgar, sexist and homophobic lyrics’. It’s important to listen instead of just hearing.

  • To people claiming the ‘listen to real hip-hop’ card. Stop being so predictably elitist. This is an exceptional lyrical album by an exceptional lyricist. That’s Em’s claim to fame. Sorry Em can’t identify with the Afrocentric crowd — I suspect he has a good excuse.

  • It wasn’t THAT bad, I’d give it a 7.5/10 or 8/10. You can’t call an album a classic when it has tracks like “Won’t Back Down”, “So Bad” and “On Fire”.

The best album of the year HAS to be “Blac Sabbath” by Blacastan.

And like the other commenters have said, the PackFM album was great too.

  • I can’t stand to hear these mother fuckers dissin em man! I have been a hard core hip hop fan for 16 fuckin years! I am all about lyrics man. Mother fuckers keep listening to the wack shit you listen 2. I do agree some hooks were ahhh but when this guy spits its a rap. You mother fuckers don’t like em so quit listening to the fuckin album. Oh I’m not hatin bullshit pussy anyone who can’t put this shit on and feel this shit don’t know shit bout a real mc! Go listen to some of his underground shit from 8 to 10 years ago and brush up a little bit!

  • thats the best review of recovery i’ve read all day

  • what the fuck this album is amazing whats with the bad review do you really know hip hop i agree with all4hoes hip hop is not only about the beat witch might i add the beats on this album are not that bad sure they anit club bangers but really thats not what ems about its the lyrics and with the way em takes this album sober props…..em does it again so you dont like his lyrics then jump on your train and heard back to contry town

  • This album went deep.. It went to a place where too many rappers are scared to go… Loved it! Going to buy the album.

  • I don’t understand the wealth of “h3y fuck u!” comments here. I thought this was a very fair (and positive) review. Plus, it touches on an area which many other reviewers often neglect – the conflict at the heart of Eminem’s need to be taken seriously as an emotional character, and his reliance on bigotry.

    Great review!

  • This is an amazing album. Nothing Eminem could have released would live up to the critics (which he touches on in the album). The reviewer did a decent job, but it’s tough to overlook the misunderstanding of “25 to life” (which is now one of my favorite rap tunes of all time), which compares a relationship to the rap game.

This album is a solid 9/10.

Tman, you list a bunch of great artists, but 4 of the first 5 artists you list are involving 2 different people (Madlib and/or MF Doom). Not that I don’t like nearly all of the artists you listed, but perhaps you are being a little exclusive in that club. Also, I would suggest taking a look at the new Reflection Eternal CD (Talib Kweli & DJ Hi Tek), as judging by your list this would be something you would appreciate.

  • Funny how the critic labels “On Fire” as the worst song on the album. Wonder what made this douche come to this conclusion???

Yesterday my dog died, I hog tied a ho, tied her in a bow
Said next time you blog try to spit a flow
You wanna criticize dog try a little mo
Im so tired of this I could blow, fire in the hole
Im fired up so fire up the lighter and the dro
Better hold on a little tighter here I go

  • FUCKIN CLASSIC this coming from Ireland much love Em keep it up FUCK chris deline and this review, know classic when u hear it son

  • Hmnn i thought it was funny on that track with Kobe talking about how he would have been ate by kanye and wayne i was just laughin at that he just modest. This album is the shit. i understand people put eminem so high that they want to compare his new work to his old work. this is why artists cant grow because fans always want to dwell on the past where everything was so perfect. Its time to let go. Fans will appreciate this.

  • @ Flow, thanks for the correction and you’re right Madvillain is a collaboration between (Madlib & MF DOOM) and DangerDoom (Danger Mouse & MF DOOM).

Now you confess to liking most of the artists I mentioned and yet you give EM’s new album 9/10. That’s not right man, NOT right.

I am being exclusive to the club (alternative rap, underground hip-hop, jazz rap et al) of those particular artists which i mentioned in my previous post. Because let’s face it, they’re original, they keep hip-hop and rap alive and have released and continue to release some of the most imaginative and creative albums out there, unlike Em’s latest efforts.

You say that nothing he could release would live up to the critics. That’s where you’re wrong. If he really bothered to come up with some decent lyrics and stopped rapping about faggots and Mariah Carey then perhaps his original fans (including myself) of Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers LP would appreciate it more as well as the critics. His production and beats are too commercial, too polished and repetitive. Just dissapointing that’s all.

With regards to Reflection Eternal by (Talib K. & Hi-Tek) now that’s a great album, with varied lyrical content that is inspiring, effortlessly transitioning from the poignant circle-of-life epic “For Women” to the rugged “Some Kind of Wonderful” and “Down for the Count,” featuring Rah Digga and Xzibit, complimented by Hi-Tek’s loping keyboard wails, soulful staccato claps, and shimmering piano loops, which are often sublime in their arrangement and outcome.

  • I thought it was amazing as the EMINEM SHOW!!! im so fuckin glad eminem dedicated a song to PROOF! R.I.P. Proof. that song might be the best song on album. I love NO LOVE, NOT AFRAID, and LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE. 2 songs i didnt like! and IM a huge EMINEM fan!! a solid 9/10! looking forward to eminem being on dr. dre’s DETOX!!!!

  • This Cd is trash…. i mean shit relapse is better than this .. i mean yeah em spits some tight shit blah fuckin blah… then i have to listen to some stupid ass hooks from some dumb cracker ass bitches… wtf nigga this shit is stupid…

  • Dre needs to hold this lil white boys hand again shit nigga

  • Shit u niggas might as well pick up on that new Insane clown pussy’s shit.. i bet it’s doper than this weak ass… Hope 50′s new shit is better

  • i’m honestly just gonna come straight from the heart with this one; i think this album is fucking garbage. not really sure how anyone — including em — could think this is a better effort than relapse. one dre beat. rhianna and fucking pink. rock guitars. i’m not even gonna be a hater… this is a pop album. not hip-hop. it has rock guitars and lil wayne… and a bunch of gay ass beats. great job marshall, you’re a sell out. fuck recovery and everyone who likes it! go listen to relapse again and figure out what the fuck is wrong with yourself!

  • oh, and Tman… you sound like a herb but thank you for not listing any atmosphere, sage francis, or other anticon-related bullshit, thx

  • Tman, I grew into rap through Outkast, Westside Connection, 2Pac, Biggie, Lost Boyz, and Dead Prez. But primarily through Eminem when his shyt hit the fan in 2000. If it wasn’t for Eminem it’s unlikely I would know any of the artists you listed (BTW, I am gonna check out Company Flow and and Cannibal Ox cause of your post).

The underground “alternative” rap scene is amazing and vibrant at the moment(R.I.P. Guru), but if one of those artists blew up to the level where Eminem was at, I can guarentee that it would be difficult to live up to the hype. (Think the original Madvilliany album, its impossible to touch).

Eminem’s style has always been more polished, which in a big part led to the big following that he has. But to call this CD “utter garbage” is a slap in the face of hip-hop.

I understand where you are coming from cause the mainstream rap artists are trash compared to what the underground artists have to offer. Sit down and listen to the album a few times and I hope it gets your foot tapping, like it does for me, cause it’s obvious we have a similiar taste in music.

  • kwiz ur a retard. this album is the shit

  • First of all, 25 to life isn’t about torn relationships. It’s about the rap game. He’s married to the game and he’s divorcing it, not letting it control him any longer…

Second of all, Who else can use the longest word in the english dictionary and make it sound unreal? in ‘Almost Famous’ ” Get off my dick… dick’s too short of a word to describe my dick… get off my antidisestablishmentarianism prick”…. seriously… wow

Best album of 2010 and definitely Em’s best album yet. He is back

  • This critic not understand metaphors and subtlety, pretty embarrasing.

  • I don’t know what some of you are thinking, saying that he should go look at Relapse, and Relapse is better than this garbage, RELAPSE WAS GARBAGE. Fuckin’ stupid ass accents, terrible flows, by far Relapse and Encore are the worst albums eminem has released. This album is up there, but not as good as Marshall Mathers LP nor Slim Shady LP but probably in thrid or tied with Eminem Show.

  • This is definitely a well defined album but if you discount “Relapse” then you can’t like Eminem because he is actually using the same flows he was vibrating in a very dark state of mind. ‘Stay Wide Awake’ was ag limpse into the satanic mind of Marshall Mathers and it was brilliantly done form an artist’s perspective. If you listen close “Relapse” was about demonic possession so the accent fits if you actually realize that possession changes your speech pattern and embraces the schizophrenic mind state. Eminem is not showing his confidence when he degraded “relapse” he showed he didn’t understand his own piece and trust narcotics can bring on this mind altering experince either that or there is a deeper map of metaphor playing out on grand scale. He snapped out of a certain mid state and now he doesn’t recognize the other work. But now he’s become self destructive which is even more bizarre.

  • Screw the haters on this album. This album is the complete shit, no way this album is garbage. Hands down the best song I have heard in awaile- Seduction. The beat and the line where he says ” How you expect her to act in the sack when she’s closing her eyes, fantasizing of digging her nails in my back to this track.” is flat out one of the best lines i have ever heard.

  • This review is complete garbage. Whoever the person is that wrote it should be shot, he obviously doesn’t know a damn thing about HIP HOP. This album is a classic hands down. with tracks like seduction, 25 to life, So bad, no love, i mean it doesn’t get any better.

  • Everyone hating on this album, it is legit. It might not be Eminems best, but its close, and it is definitely better than anything and out there right now. Even Eminem’s weakest songs on this CD are better than all Drake, Jay-Z and Lil Waynes shit.

  • “The album is going to be huge, for the public, and for eminem’s career. But I think that the review was pretty accurate. The fact that the best (and most popular) track on the album features weezy reflects that em needs some help. But comeback of the year, no doubt.”

No Love isn’t the best song on this album? Have you even heard the album? It hasn’t been released yet so how do you know its “the most popular”? Cinderella Man, Space Bound, Talkin 2 Myself, 25 to life, Seduction, all better than No Love….

  • Deffo better than Relapse/ Refill/ Encore. Comes close to Eminem Show I think :) some fantastic tracks on here: Not Afraid, Your Never Over, 25 To Life & Cold Wind Blows are all brilliant.

  • All I gotta say is wow killer album obviosly best of this year cuz this year is a joke for rap. As for word play its almost like everyone else is retarded compared to this cat cuz he is like a lyrical genius.

    Buy Recovery
    Buy Detox
    Buy Carter 4
Buy Whatever Kanye puts out next
    Buy Red Album

    DL the Rest!!

  • This review was trash. You clearly haven’t really paid attention to Eminem on this album. Ever since it has leaked, it’s all i’ve been playing. Lyrically, this is Eminem’s BEST ALBUM to date. And overall, it’s his 3rd best. Deserves nothing less than a 9.

  • ARE ALL YOU PEOPLE ILLITERATE? this guy does nothing but talk about how good the album is. there is hardly one negative thing in this whole review. he trashes RELAPSE which was a horrid album for the most part. read the last paragraph people

  • Just quit leaving them fake ass reviews fags! I guess you guys r mad cause he raps circles around your favorite rapper! Not just sayin it just to say it you mother fuckers r hatin and I guess can’t appriciate a real mc! Fuck who’s on your list of artists they can’t hold ems nutz. On fire no love seduction spacebound the whole album is banannas cock suckers. Mother fuckers look so stupid saying this albums wack dude who the fuck r u listening 2. I will say this now this album will go down as ems best! I have heard em rhyme 1 fucking word and spit a whole song staying on

  • lol its funny because if slim shady ep or mmlp came out now in in this present day and then he released Recovery at the same time you would be like wtf is with mmlp and slimshday ep you would take recovery over those two albums any day. Those albums were exeptionally good in their day because eminem was new and fresh and nobody had heard his shit before. If Recovery was his first album and slim shadyep was his last you would think he fell off end of story!! Hes getting BETTER

  • Best album since The Marshall Mathers LP. Buying for Sure!

  • I don’t get it. I just don’t get it. I’ve been an Eminem fan since the first time I heard My Name Is on the radio. When Eminem dropped Relapse, I thought every track on that CD was garbage except Underground. Fittingly, Underground was the last track, and he absolutely murdered it. It gave me hope that maybe the old school Eminem would finally break out of that Triumph accent and drop something I could actually listen to… ’cause I sure the hell don’t listen to any goddamn thing else any rapper puts out these days, except Ludacris (who happens to be one of the most underrated rappers alive… just thought I’d throw that in there). Then I heard Em’s verse on Drop The World. I remember listening to Wayne and thinking “Why am I wasting my time on this shit”… then Em came on and by the third line of his spit I was like “Wayne who??” Then he dropped the verse on the Airplanes remix, and that was fire. Then the Despicable freestyle… and that wasn’t just fire, that was straight RIDICULOUS. Then I heard the Not Afraid single. Honestly, I didn’t really like it… but after listening a couple times, I started to hear Em’s lyrical prowess behind the track. After listening to this entire album, let me drop the end-all review of this shit: This album is by far the best album this year, and in the top 2 of the decade. It’s everything that hip hop is NOT, and everything that hip hop SHOULD BE. And this album proves, once and for all, that Eminem is the most lyrical rapper ever, period. I don’t give a damn, I’ve listened to Common, Aesop, all those supposedly “better” rappers. There isn’t a damn one of ‘em who holds a candle to Eminem’s lyricism. When 75% of rappers out there are still stuck using the entirely-overused “kick it like judo” line, Eminem is dropping bars with rhymes that no other rapper can pull off. I grew up listening to Ice-T, who was one of the most lyrically impressive rappers I’d ever heard… Eminem smokes him. Hands down, the best rapper in the game, and most definately in the top three of the best of all time.

He can’t sing worth a fuck though. If I have to hear him sing on the next album I’m gonna need surgery for severe head trauma from sticking a fork through my eardrum.

  • Absolutely fantastic cohesiveness. The most complete and well rounded lyrical and artistic album in years. This is him at his best, again. You know when Marshal is Marshal when you get goosebumps at every punchline.
My only dislike is his consistent singing in every hook, practically. I don’t like his singing voice, pretty much because he doesnt have one.

This is going to spend it’s life on my Most Played on my ipod, iphone, and itunes for years to come. Like Marshal Mathers LP & Slim Shady LP.

Applause for the maestro and master of lyrics

  • Slim Shady EP rather.

  • this is one of the most sickest albums i agree the guitars are not so amazing and wont back down is not amazing but tracks like so bad, talking 2 myself, w.t.p, cinderella man, no love, not afraid, love the way you lie and cold wind blows. It might not be the best but still destruction. 9.5/10

  • What the fuck is this bullshit? People sayin the album is shit? Sayin its his worse? Talkin bout its too commercial? Fuck dat shit! Heard Em when i was around 5, didnt understand much then buh then i got the Slim Shady LP then Marshall Mathers LP then The Eminem Show. This Album Is His Best From Then. Relapse Was Mixed Emotions….The Accent n all kinda made it that way, but the album was not garbage, the lyrical content was still great, word to Deja Vu. Listenin to the album as i write this….The hooks are great, catchy i mite say. The flow, soooooooo sick, the beats are just right, workin with different producers proved to be a great idea n the word play…..”Don’t Call Me The Champ, Call Me The Space Shuttle Destroyer, I Just Blew Up The Challenger.”….”Tale A Look At mariah next time I inspire you to write a song…”. You have to be a hater or just dumb and blind as fuck to talk shit bout this album. Fuck Those Who Hate It….Em said he was offering something different n thats what we got N I LOVE IT. Best Shit Of 2010 so far….Undoubtedly be that way till the end. Buyin it fa sure. FUCK DA HATERS!!!

  • This album is absolutely fucking insane. Probably his best work – just behind the MMLP which was perfect.

  • Ken ks a pussy!

  • While I agree that lyrically this is a pretty good album, the beats are absolute garbage, and make it difficult to listen to in parts.. it’s too much i can’t stomach all that synth driven shit it’s awful!! i mean the beats on relapse were absolutely perfect for MM but he just doused them in piss by using those irritating flows. also for anyone who says that lyrics are all that matter, then why not just read poetry? the production is meant to provide a background to enhance the lyrical content, and here it just drowns it, bad times bring back dre please! and regarding those who say that MM is the best lyricist of all time, has no-one ever listened to Ras Kass?? peace x

  • Tman is the epitome of a follower. He is the type who thinks he can discern “real” hip-hop from “fake” hip-hop. These type of people are so annoying. They think their favorite artists spit deep knowledge and that the lyrics have some super deep meaning. Just about everyone you mentioned on that list wish they could be in the position of Lil Wayne and Eminem. These mainstream rappers and sellouts are the real smart ones: they are able to put out music that appeals to millions. This in turn, takes them out of poverty and gives them the opportunity to do whatever they want. This is any sane person’s dream. This is intelligence. I hope your ideal of hip-hop dies along with your crowd of people who follow it. Oh, and this album is good- It will also sell more than all the artists on that list combined.

  • Solid review…..if you are deaf! Album is awesome! Culturebully should consider hiring Hellen Keller as its next journalist.

  • your not to smart are you? he explains his leave from hip-hop and you can tell hes matured but kept his since of comedy and skill, and screw you relapse sold 3 million, the only thing that sucked about it was his acsent but if he rapped regular in that album easily 6 million sold i think you just dont except change so your still listen to slimshady lp exspecting to be the same as that, well that was 11 years ago things change hater..

  • I like how Eminem has collaborated w/ Lil Wayne again, I think he likes showing people just how garbage Lil Wayne is, like “Hey you guys like Lil Weezy? Let me show you how it’s done.” Then he just KILLS it. Anyone could write the rhymes Lil Wayne writes.

  • really… what kinda review is this? he murdered the whole cd. no skits, back to his raw raps, tight flow, and unique tempo and background fx he used so often in marashall mathers lp

  • Hahah ken k’s a puss just like his mom likes 2 eat ur moms puss huh fag fuck…. ur lucky u can hide behind your computer… im not the game but my pistol grip pump would splatter your brain… rappin with rihhana and pink anit the same i should kill em since he wants to act all insane bury my dick in his brain, from the cradle to the grave keep spittin this weak ass shit and ill call the game, you think your shady huh think your hard huh? one more song made by just blaze and ur cd won’t faze… im done with you em load up my dro and start seeing that purple haze, im goin back offline cuz i anit got the time, maybe ur wife should fuck on you with icp so you can write a dope rhyme bitch boy

  • still this cd is trash just like half you lil 13 yr olds sayin u was 5 when slim ep came out… you lil pussy’s i was out robbin liquer stores while u was a nut stain in your momma draws bitch boy mother fuckers with your hitler ass hair cuts ill choke you

  • this review suks…but the album is one of mah least fav albums of em but its still kickass!……the hooks are not very catchy…and he has lost a lotta of his old humor!……his flowz unbeatable tho…….but i dont get why he hates relapse soo much…”beautiful” was one of da best tracks ever made…

  • This is my last post on this shit! I just wanted 2 say ken k should be thrown on three stacks of hay tied up fucked in his ass by 7 gays while his pops is in the backround screaming yay ……………… fucking internet gangster buddy r ya! Its pretty stupid I would even respond to you dude but I couldn’t help it man cause I know your kind son. You live at your foster moms house in the basement screaming up the stairs hey will you please fucking make me something to eat bitch! Homie your softer than katie perrys rectum! Shoot em up bang bang huh lmmfao! I ain’t claining to be a fucking thug or nothing but would never let a pussy like you ever try to shit on me on the computer or nose 2 nose alright there master p ! ! !

  • This review seems to be fair with a pleasant conclusion, but you can’t be really fair when you miss the actual meaning of “25 to life”.
It show the album wasn’t listened like it should have.

This album is definitely good, more consistent than Relapse (which, sorry guys, wasn’t total garbage). However, I would like him to used more different flows, and tones. He always sounds fast and angry in this record.

It think a lot of people have to stop being narrow minded. From the underground hip hop fan, to the hardcore “first 2 albums” Eminem fans.

Yes this album has something of a pop feeling, and yes it features some rock guitars, where’s the problem?

Some guys has to relax a bit and understand that the pop side of the album can be enjoyable, and that the production on “won’t go back off” isn’t trying to be your classic hip hop prod, and it’s actually good to have some mainstream artists still experimenting.

But above all, some frustrated people have to understand that Eminem changed totally over the last 10 years, and he can’t put out the same stuff out as when he was hating the world. If he did, you would call him a fake.

Put any of your underground artist under the spots likes Em has been, let’s see how long he will continue to produce quality music.

To me, he’s staying honest to the person is currently is, not trying to be the Slim Shady from 97 while he is not this person anymore.

  • i have to admit, after being a fan of eminem for a long time, since slim shady lp even till relapse, his album recovery is really bad,i mean really really bad.he keeps shouting on da record and he sings way 2 much,it becomes really annoyin,i dunno whether im losin my mind but am i da only one who finds him annoyin now wit dis new flow?his voice just sounds annoyin wit da shoutin, props on da lyrics,he rhymed things rappers wouldnt even dream bout rhymin, but dat shouting doesnt do it 4 me,he did it on another albums, but he didnt do it on da whole album!

talkin 2 myself is my fav track

but apart from dat, relapse is a classic record compared 2 dis,i mean eminem is good on simple production,he basically stooped 2 da south influence n started makin music like lil wayne, and sampled faggoty haddaway, and just blaze, seriously i wanna kill da dude, wat has he done wit himself,da beats r horrible,he used 2 make real new york beats!!!

eminem,if ure readin dis,uve disappointed me,i actually thought relapse was a great record, obv. take out dat weird accent and its a mega album but plz go bak 2 ur old formula coz dis one sux,ure stoopin 2 smt ure not used to,i mean cmon, how do u wanna be remembered?sum1 who goes 2 rihanna for a chorus, how is dat original, every raper went 2 rihanna, ure da one who stayed tru n original, ure not anymore…..

  • This album is off the meat rack as Em so profoundly put it. Classic. Up there with the first 3, this dude that reviewed it is retarded! And raze you are right there along with him. Eminem is at his best when he is angry. Umm The Way I Am, Soldier, Kim, just to name a few…You might be a fan but you don’t know rap. I am going to buy 2 on the 22nd cause I am a fan and this album is the album of the year, not just rap album of the year… I’m the definition of white trash ballin. HAHA!!

    Marshall Mathers=G.O.A.T.

  • What kind of idiot would say “Like “W.T.P.” before it[Seduction], the track has some strong lines but it ultimately adds little to the record.” That track features a verse attacking Jay Z for his “white boy” comment. The writer didn’t even pick up on the Hova subliminal. This could turn out to the Pac/Biggie beef of this generation.

  • This might just be the worst album that I’ve ever heard in my life. I’m surprised that Eminem was able to make an album where every single song is terrible. Encore was close but it had 3 or 4 tracks that stood out. This one? None. Zero. No real hip-hop fans will listen to this trash. Kissing Kanye and Lil Wayne’s ass? Pathetic. The songs that were originally intended to be on “Relapse 2″ were fantastic but this CD wasn’t even worth the time it took to download. I am beyond disappointed. There wasn’t anything original or fresh on this album at all. On the other hand, if you’re a woman or a teenage boy in junior high then this album might appeal to you. It’s a whole CD of shit reminding me of the worst song from Relapse (Beautiful). Everybody who loves sugar coated pop singles and recycled waste will disagree (of course).

  • i’ve been looking through alot of these comments.
I agree with most of the review
    i give it 8/9 out of 10
Itz not a classic but itz close in my opioion 2 songs not keen on.
what i think is that 2 many comparisons are made 2 former albums.
this is my second fav em album (mmlp obvly wins) but he just sounds free and his flow is exactely what i wanted.
You can please everyone some are gunna hate it some are gunna adore it
    I love it (:

  • Is anybody out there?
It feels like I’m talkin to myself
No one seems to know my struggle
    And everything I come from
    Can anybody hear me?
It guess I keep talkin to myself
It feels like I’m going insane
Am I the one whose crazy?

absolutely love this song its the shit!

  • This is the best lyrical CD that ive ever heard. The metaphors are insane and the wordplay is so beasty that its inhuman. I never thought i could ever find an album that i liked more than the Slim Shady LP or Doggystyle by Snoop but i think i found it with Recovery. I dont know what he did to get back to this level but i hope he keeps doin it. The most bitter-sweet part of this whole thing is that since this CD is so good, it makes u wonder what could’ve been.

This review is bad in my opinion. On Fire is a hot track. Hes spittin venom.

  • So good Eminem! Thank you for that Cd!

Support Eminem and buy his new Album RECOVERY!

  • When he said “I aint’ goin back to that now” he’s talking about relapse and encore. Not his old rapping self.

  • Man this guy needs to just shut the f**k up and listen properly. Relapse was a great record in my opinion but this album is the s**t. Shady back to his very best and killing everyone else in the hip hop game period.

  • The review was interesting, but at the same time very opinionated and easily argued. To say that Relapse was scrambled and lacked flow seems to be a very poor conclusion of the album. Rolling Stone hailed Relapse, rating it 3 stars and saying “Eminem has returned, and we’re glad he’s back.” My advice – A: Purchase/Listen to the album yourself and make your own decision. B: Wait for Rolling Stone(a credible music review source) to post the review of Recovery. The author of this review should most likely cross reference other reviews before making assumptions or uneducated statements.

  • Yeah this guy is clearly an Eminem hater in disguise. I mean this is the BEST Eminem album since “Marshall Mathers LP” and “The Eminem Show”, quite possibly even better than both of those. I mean who is this guy who even claims to be a critic? Probably the same type of critics Em was talking about in On Fire.

  • This album is an A+ I think Eminem is back and this album proves he is back with a vengence! his creative flow is present! love the album! I do agree with a few of the positive and negative comments, but I believe this album is a classic! Glad Em is back!

  • An uneducated community college dropout incorrectly quoting lyrics shows the sort of review you’re in store for. Eminem’s new album is ill as fuck, but haters gonna hate.

  • I think the reviewer needs to take more care with what he writes. “But despite the hook’s focus on redemption, the rest of Recovery does little to reinforce the idea that the new Slim Shady is really all that different from the old Slim Shady”… you have not only missed the point with this opener but pretty much trashed every word that follows. The whole point of Recovery is that “Shady is back”, not that it’s a different Shady to the old one.

He’s saying he lost his way after the Eminem Show..basically, the Shady in him died amongst the clouded headedness that his addiction to drugs brought.

This review isn’t too bad, but your opener was a terrible reinforcement for everything that followed. As you can see from all of the user comments, you make or break an entire article on the opening few lines.

    Live and learn, eh.

I also think the person who commented saying that Recovery doesn’t touch the Slim Shady LP lyrically needs to check himself. The amount of punchlines buried in Recovery is absolutely immense. Each listen seems to reveal one or two that was missed before. The Slim Shady LP was just more in your face because of the whacked out, balls-in-your-face style he was on back then. SS LP was off the hook for multis, but this matches it.
Carving punchlines and metaphors into a flow as solid and emotional as he consistently shows on Recovery is far harder to do. His speed and confidence is at an all time high.

Slim Shady LP was classic, but MMLP and Recovery are not only his most epic pieces of work, but two of the best hip hop albums released..period. This will stand up there with Capital Punishment, Illmatic and Black Star as some of the best music to grace the genre.

I thought Shady was dead as soon as Encore came out..nearly shed a tear over the fact. I’m just glad he’s back and admitted he did the fans wrong.

  • Oh, and Mizzle. You clearly know nothing about hip hop.

  • I listen to all hip hop underground and some mainstream. Em is still one of the best lyricists alive. I do have to agree with the review. Relapse album was no good…em himself admits it. Some of the tracks on recovery are a little to mushy for mee but it doesn’t even matter because he has an uncanny ability to flow

. overall, this is A great album.

  • Pretty solid album. Some of the hooks are dumb but the lyrics are great

  • good album, im sure as most of slims work goes the more i listen to it the more i will like it. I did love relapse though, i was surprised to see so many negative views on it, what he did lyrically on that album is unprecedented, especially with the ability to flow in so many ways with different accents. I understand ems going through changes but I was hoping to see hear some tracks resembling relapse with different accents or totally insane twisted sides (Insane, stay wide awake, 3am)

  • think of your favorite rapper, send them a letter telling them to diss eminem and just see what happens. 10/10 amazing album. you people who hate on eminem saying he sucks.. then what the fuck did you download the album for if you dont like him just so you could start drama with his fan base. like other people said you need to listen to the album not just hear it.

better idea… all of you who think eminem sucks, sit down and try to write 5 bars that sound even close to as good. cant hate people for being good at what you could never do.

  • Eminem has definitely changed and for the better idk what the fuck this guy is talking about this album is Great. Also i kinda disagre with eminem i liked relapse, but my all time favorite is mmlp

  • the review was dead on, it was just an ok album, not his best.

  • ive heard every eminem song ever made
i cant say this album is bad but….
What the HELL happened to the old eminem

    U KNOW im right

  • This review or critic definitely does not listen to music, he definitely listens to Drake and is an Eminem Hater, FUCK DRAKE

  • Recovery is on the same level as MMLP and The Eminem Show, it might be his best album ever. The entire album is great i can bump every song, his lyrics and flows are insane and all of the chorus’s are great. This guy must be a hater.

  • Honestly go back and listen to Relapse. Everyone talks about how they hate it but lyrically its an amazing album. It tells fictional stories and paints pictures over production that is a thousand times better than the production used on his most recent effort. Originally i hated the whole accent thing on Relapse and I would agree that one album of that voice was enough, but going back and listening to that Relapse album now i actually appreciate it a lot more than when it came out.

I thought this Recovery album was OK on my first listen but after a few days i have found the production very Pop and sounding like everything that is hitting the charts this year. Stand out tracks for me are ‘Cold Wind Blows’, ‘Talkin’ To Myself’, ‘Seduction’ and ‘So Bad’. ‘Almost famous’ has a really cool chorus. The rest of the album has gone into my trash to be honest.

I like the new smart and together eminem but i feel that the seemingly forced aggression of a number of tracks and a poor choice of production make this eminems worst album.

  • Just to add to my previous comment I actually think that Eminem is the most talented rapper ever dead or alive period. He has a catalog of lyrics and flows that make him the best to have ever done it. With this said, yes i don’t think Recovery is very good when comparing it with his other five albums but it is still a very talented rap album, and it will be one of the best to come out this year. Now what does that say about the man?

  • Decent album with some bad songs like WTP,Your never over,no love, wont back down, so bad , spacebound , almost famous ”

but there are some good ones too

  • This album was pretty good however there was way too many bitch singers. Like seriously Pink and Rihanna? WTF eminem. I am not a little wayne fan at all but at least in the song “no love” he doesnt sound like he just smoked a phat bag of crack like he does in most of his other songs. Pretty good album however, I kinda like eminem when he was on drugs, you can’t think of songs like rain man without some fucked up substances. I just kinda wished for a song with Dre.

Haha and btw eminem beeks rihanna in relapse and then he has her on his next album. “I pee on Rihanna, see I do what I wanna.” I miss that eminem

  • on his last album sorry XD my bad

  • You guys can back off, this album was probably the best since The eminem show. Lyrics meen a shit load in rap, and most Rappers just talk about sex, and drugs. Eminem talks about his life. To all of you giving this a shitty review, GTFO off this page then. The review was alright nothing biased. I do agree that some songs Such as

    Wont back Down,
    And
    On Fire.

Were probably the worst songs eminem has been in. But Overall this album was fucking amazing i cant stop listening to it.

    Fav songs by far

    25 To Life
    Space Bound
    Cold Wind Blows
    Almost Famous.
    W.T.P

Ive been listening to eminem forever, and trust me this is one of the best albums hes made. Although i was too disapointed that D12 or Dre Dre wernt in here, or 50 cent. But whatever, this album is the fucking bomb.

    9/10

  • ok, been a shady fan from the start, and this cd is off the fuckin chain. comeon man this review is wack. could u go throught shit like this and still admit wat u did was fucked up and want to make it right with ur fans?
honestly he came with the flow and instanisty u havent seen in a while and was so happy. the only other cd im waitin on is the new ti cd. im hopin he does simalar. come out of the gates firing on all cyclinders. and if you listen close eminem mentions several other rappers either n jail or comin out of rehap and tellin them to stay with it.

congrats on the cd em, we love
    wack ass review

  • Pretty good review overall 7.9/10, little details hated on too much but…Relapse had a couple hits like any regular pop Cd today but that isn’t how Em rolls so it is reasonable to say it was a mediocre album. This review is pretty much on key with what Em’s trying to portray. For others who don’t feel this album because you’ve never been much into Shady or anything “different”, i’m sorry but honestly Recovery will be one of the best rap albums ever in the books for anticipation, being so unique with its sick beats, and crazed but positive lyrics…big challenge to T.I.’s upcoming album…may the sickest rapper win, til further notice Eminem my mann is back on top and im lovin it! *No Love, Cinderella Man, Talkin’ 2 Myself, and Won’t Back Down fave

  • the last one i don’t even need to respond to your stupid ass but ……All4hoes ur lucky i dont know where u live or id come break your nose… as far as the thug thing goes ask your mom she knows… oh shit… wait a sec u know how it goes just like darth vader to luke im ur father… how u think ur moms could afford all them clothes? shootem up bang bang… should i tell your mom you let guys run up in ur ass all night like a mother fuckin train?? I came in here to shit on ur name?? nigga please you the one that thought you could pour grease on mine… Oh yeah by the way when you see your mom tell that bitch to add some tomato’s on my sandwich next time or im droppin bo’s hahah eat shit all4cocksuckBitchBoy…
    Signed

  • Tman, youve been deaf for about a decade or so,shady never lost his flow, he just went under when Proof died, but now he’s risen from his ashes and back with a vengance. Put a sock in it.

  • FUCKTHISREVIEW

  • its ok, i dun mind gettin criticised on my views of da album,i am well awarre i am a minority, wat can i say?i just dun feel da album,i like em on simple production,i dun like him singin 2 much,u can be melodic, just dun sing, and i dun like him stoopin 2 pink and rihanna,da whole thing is,im not a hater, hey if da song wit rihanna n pink is good then y not bump it,i liked da one wit elton john,so wat if da guys a homo,if it bumps,it bumps, prob is da songs wit pink n rihanna r not good, not by my standards,i mean theres no clear melody dat makes u go wow, cmon rihanna has run out of melodies, but eminem as tikiGod says above me,hes too happy yet almost every song hes angry n shoutin, look im 26,ive been listenin 2 eminem since way bak, maybe dats y i appreciate his dark work, like same song and dance, how could ppl say dat it took him very lil time 2 write dat,its conceptual, how come critics dun say dat when jay-z goes in da booth and one-takes it?
all im sayin is dat i usually feel eminems album on da 1st listen, dis one and encore i didnt, and trust me i have listened 2 it more than once now,but no its not gettin better, certainly not by Relapse standards,in fact im gonna go bump relapse coz dat cd rocks,i prefer eminem on drugs, dont we all?i mean cmon, stop foolin urself like ur fav rapper doesnt take drugs.theyre more interestin, clear headedness got em kissin kanyes and waynes ass,dat pisses me off,i hate both of dem!
em clearly made dis album for da same ppl dat buy kanye and wayne, its simple,i dont buy their crap, ill admit i bought carter III,but dats it,it wasnt dat great of an album,i was caught in da hype, wat a waste!

and if u wanna criticise my opinion, do it constructively, dun worry bout da way iw rite,i do it 2 save time,i actually have a political science degree yall,no joke.

  • Ok kaniff let’s see how thug you r motha fucka 96 and schoolcraft if tour east on 96 going towards the d got off at schoolcraft go up to the second light and make a right then go down to cloverlawn and make a left. Always outside chillin on the front lawn pussy. I ain’t giving you no fake shit son I put that on your mom! Let’s see how gangster you r boy cause you wouldn’t make it off my street alive bitch. Go ahead and post tmrw that you came out and nobody was there bitch cause your fake bitch. Again them r real directions captain thug life see u in hell!!!!

  • One of his worse albums, Relapse was much better.

What happened to Dr Dre?! seems DJ Kahlil has replaced him.

Nothing beats Dres phat beats…these new beats are soft cock compared!

  • Your CLownin All4cock… You Anit even worth the drive from Compton google it mapquest it yahoo it i dgaf thats a whole day away … and for what 5 secs of spendin time poundin your teeth out the back your skully… You wanna see hell ? turn left off e compton onto S alameda street 921 SOUTH alameda Street right next door to B&H auto …. you could jump in your honda civic wagon and ride on out to cali… maybe you could bring your moms?? i still want my sandwich bitch

  • I agree DeeShay, this album is one of his worst.i miss the dre beats really think em needs to do drugs again lol or atleast for the month or 2 he takes writin his shit.I like some of the verse’s but the hooks with bitches singin and em sing are softer than Ken K and All4hoes writing songs like vanilla ice. you too should go get a room somewhere in between compton and the “d” sure theres a lq store inbetween those crap ass places you call home.

  • thought the review was somewhat accurate, understated in the parts where em shines….

and 25 to life isnt about his torn relationships, its a letter to hiphop. this review seems like it was done during your first listen to the album.

and lil wayne actually held his own, i was surprised.

  • This fucking site ain’t for me to go back and forth with punk ass school girls about this and that! Fact of the matter is to rate ems album. I would like to just say is everyone has their own and taste of music lyrics and production. I would say that if you guys don’t like the album cool but em is the best flame spitter in the game bar none. I think it comes to a point where a lot of people won’t admit that he is the best in the game either their mad cause he is better then their favorite mc or because some people can’t stand that he is a white rapper and has had this shit on lock for the past decade just about. And ken k I was really looking forward to possibly cracking your little faget skull in half,I thought you might have been from where real people don’t talk shit behind their computer and back up what they say! Your lucky I can’t get my fucking hands on you pussy and that’s real. What the fuck are you guy a freshman in high school or a dropout because you got beat the fuck up everyday in school. And your momma shit really guy I know you can do better than that you fucking low life scum bag. And slim go ahead and stay in your little cozy parents basement in the beautiful suburbs buddy and make your little vanilla ice statements your as corny as the shit I took on your dads chest pussy. All the real people out there keep bumping shady and show your support for the king of this hip hop shit!

  • i couldn’t be bothered reading hte whole review, just wanted to say i love the album

  • If you actually read the fuckn article, he’s not giving it a bad review.
Of course he’s critiquing it in some areas but overall he’s saying the album is good & that Eminem is on his way to becoming the man we all remember him as.

And frankly, I love the album. Eminem was the best when I was growing up & he still is.
He took some time off & now he’s back, better than ever.

I’m going on record & declaring that he’s better than Wayne.
Yep, because Wayne is a gimmick. A hype. & I honestly don’t believe his impact or influence is as strong as Eminem’s is. Because Em raps about life and the pursuit of happiness. Wayne has insightful shit to say OCCASSIONALLY but I just think Em is more dynamic.

They’re both brilliant but in a battle for the best, its Em. Hand down.

    -msDuke

  • Its going to be a great CD….screw Relapse THIS is his comeback.

  • This album is going to be good… Screw Relapse and forget it ever happened, THIS is his comeback.

  • The slim shady gimmick was back on relapse, it had a funny 1st single, dark tracks like he did on MMLP and SSLP, had the managers and ken skits on it, it was a real Eminem album that pleased most of his true fans, recovery to me is a upset, he needs to comeback the real slim shady, he sounds like T.I. and Kanye if you listen closely, only 3 tracks that are worth listening to are Cold wind blows, on fire, almost famous, the rest is complete pop garbage, lets just hope he doesnt do a song britney spears and next!!! what a fackstreet boy

  • This review is one of the stupidest thing Ive ever read.
dude. learn something about music. read the lyrics. feel the beat. and THEN write a review.

eminems sickest songs are in this album. don’t add in your bs 2 cents in it.

  • good album, thx EMINEM

  • First off, there are alot of ignorant opinions on this page! The reviewer’s review of this album was pretty spot on. Relapse, as well as Encore, was straight garbage! All you Stans can deny it, regardless, it is still the truth. As far as labeling this a “classic” album, that is beyond ridiculous lol. Classic would be an accurate adjective for records such as Illmatic, The Chronic, Aquemina, East 1999 Eternal, Ready To Die, Life After Death, Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, Only Built For Cuban Links, etc etc… What this Recovery album is a nice little reminder of the talent that is Eminem. It is not a timeless record such as the ones I mentioned before. It isn’t MMLP or The Eminem Show either. It is just a nice 3 and a half mic record. That’s it. As far as people saying “noone touches Eminem lyrically”… there is this rapper, from Queensbridge, and his name is Nas. I suggest you listen to some of his work before you make outlandish, ignorant comments such as that. Peace.

  • Wow.these people here are retartded this was a review board not a gay chat site.clearly all4hoes is an imbreed fuck who needs to quit waiting on some fag to meet him at his house. Heres an idea take your ass and go get a job instead of postin up at your nanas house in the suburbs u call a “hood”. And for Ken K’s punk ass i live in compton pussy we can meet and do the damn thing. Cuz if theres one thing i hate it’s people claiming to be tough on the internet even though it looks like all4hoes started runnin his pussy lips before you did. i dont give a fuck homie ima type that address in the navigator right now ill see you soon bitch. And fuck it while on here theres 4 maybe 5 songs on this cd thats dope. the rest is a bunch of pop shit. atleast if there was trl em could be all up in that shit.

  • I agree whole-heartedly with the last comment…how on earth can a record be deemed classic before it’s even released…yes I’ve heard it and it is fantastic, but not all time classic…everyone dissing the reviewer for doin his job instead of licking em’s balls just look ignorant. A strong album, much better than Relapse, which was eh, but Liquid Swords it’s not…

  • also, retard dickheads out there… the reviewer said this was one of em’s best albums, as it is…what if someone doesn’t proclaim it the greatest album ever made and the crowning achievment of mankind’s residence on this planet they are full of shit??? no room for differing opinions apparently? the review wasn’t even negative!! learn to fucking read you idiot momos…

  • I hate people that act tough on the net but you just did the same thing you fuckin idiot. I was on this site to support this album not to ga back and forth with some shit talking clowns that couldn’t bust their way out of a condom! Bitch I work 40 every week and believe handle buisness besides that. Compton huh I would bet anything both of you mother fuckers live on the outskirts of compton and are not even in the hood. Nothing else you say will get me throwed off. Your on a computer guys a fucking computer! Clearly your on the other side of the country and ain’t gonna do shit. First of all what r u gonna do john boy tp ken ks house nop because he is to pussy to say where he lays his head and you captain hate people that talk shit on the computer wouldn’t do shit anyway. What are you trying to get a rise out of people on here like o this guy is so tough bitch shut the fuck up!

  • first of all i don’t give a rats ass about your shit ass opinion anyways. second that punk don’t live there at that address i went by today. just 2 old people. third i live 3 blocks south of east compton but im in compton. but its cool keep on tryin to say some stupid shit. all im sayin is u start shit with this punk when he was givin his opinon (yes he sounds like a fuckin punk bitch) but isn’t that what this fourm was for? So why not just come in here and clown on all you fags that are starting your shit on a review board. i honestly wanted to see if dude was legit but he anit bout shit. shoot em up bang bang anit doin shit but prolly living down the street in a trailor park in the d. but hey 40 hrs at micky ds is still a check. i anit hating make that paper playa. shit to bad your pops busted out that condom, if not for that we would have one less 17yr flippin burgers talkin his bs on the net. ethier way i won’t be back on this site.(so yeah keep writing comments all4hoes cuz im sure u will so you look “bad” in front of your online peeps) im out this bitch like janet jacksons titty at the super bowl. i got money to make and bills to pay . the album sux in my mind.. you guys like it then rock it i won’t even waste the money on it. ill just keep on with the mmlp etc. and maybe even relapse.

  • JohnBoy: What?

  • Another classic from eminem long time coming i would have said his last album was it this guy has talent this is going to be a big seller. He let down his irish fans when he cancled his punchestown gig heartbroken.hopefully he will be back with this .Irish Fan.

  • The article is wrong about seduction and 25 life. They are both very important. They both talk about and are referring to Hip-Hop and is relation with it. Listen to the lyrics of those to song with that in mind, and you will understand.

  • The guy that wrote this is a left-wing hippy, that dont like Eminems bad words………. i thought Eminem sold out to Pop……. I WAS WRONG.

  • All the people that say this album suxs are fuckin dumasses. Also the people that said he changed listen cafully he hadent changed he just raps fast you guys probly just don’t listen.

  • His raps are as sick as ever, em is tight. But idk i didn’t feel any thing in his hooks. I didn’t feel them to be very catchy or something i would rap to in my car or chill to. But my first eminem cd was the eminem show, and that’ll always have to be my favorite one. Decent cd, wouldnt buy it i’d just listen to it on myspace. Nice review.

  • If you guys can read – this review is giving the album props….. DID ANYONE READ THE WHOLE THING??? WOW.

  • All of you are fucking retarded arguing about how good this is. I liked it and it diffently isn’t perfect, but you have to remember people relate to things differently. I consider my self a hip-hop junkie listening to the classics from 2Pac, Biggie, Big L, Snoop Dogg,Rakim, KRS-One, and Wu-tang Clan all the way to the new Immortal Technique, Slaughterhouse,Nas, Talib Kweli,Ill Bill, Tech N9ne and etc. The fact about music is relative the more you connect to it the more your brain releases chemicals such as dopemine which literally can get you a lyrical high of a dope beat. Man, also as a lyracist i can relate to the difficulty of rapping…So where the fuck do people get the right to bitch! What you get is what you get “On Fire” is probably the wackest song on the
CD but he does tell it like it is. Critics don’t like anything and if you hate do better so I’m asking you to stopping hyping the shit out of it or dissing it and do better. I fucking dare ya.

  • Wow, there are sooo many people on Em’s dick. It’s a fact. This album is decent, (MUCH better then Relapse), but nowhere close to classic. Marshall Mathers LP was classic, Slim Shady LP was classic, The Eminem Show was classic, not this. You need to understand that when Eminem doesn’t drop his best shit, you need to accept that and not just instantly accept anything he does as classic because thats just sad.

Good comeback by Em, but no album by Em or anyone else will beat MMLP, because that was possibly the greatest rap album of all time

  • once the hype dies down you will all realise how shit recovery is… sorry, dont take it personally

  • I STOP READING THIS INTERVIEW WHEN HE SAID 25 TO LIFE WAS ABOUT TORN RELATIONSHIPS. LOL, ITS ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH HIP HOP AND HOW OUTLETS DONT GIVE HIM HIS PROPS. SORRY MAN, YOU SHOULD NOT REVIEW ALBUMS

  • best album marshall mathers ever made… ever.

  • This album might be the greatest album ever put out by a hiphop artist…I say that because it cant be the best hiphop album due to the fact that he seriously created a new genre, this dude is so nasty he rapped to an acoustic and heavy rock guitars, and in songs like cinderella man i dont even know what to say im speechless. Simply put this is the greatest thing ever. Also I would be very interested to see him perform alot of songs on this album with a live band or symphany.

  • “The slim shady gimmick was back on relapse, it had a funny 1st single, dark tracks like he did on MMLP and SSLP, had the managers and ken skits on it, it was a real Eminem album that pleased most of his true fans, recovery to me is a upset, he needs to comeback the real slim shady, he sounds like T.I. and Kanye if you listen closely, only 3 tracks that are worth listening to are Cold wind blows, on fire, almost famous, the rest is complete pop garbage, lets just hope he doesnt do a song britney spears and next!!! what a fackstreet boy”

Shit like this makes me weep for the future of hip hop. We get the best Eminem album since at least The Eminem Show and people shit on it? Do you have any taste at all?

By the way genius, most true fans despised the majority of Relapse.

  • What are ya’ll trippin about, I thought this was a pretty good review, the review even said at the end that Recovery is “One of his most complete albums to date”

How ya’ll get mad at that??……….

  • This guy Chris DeLine must have a bias opinion when it comes to Eminem. The flow and lyrics on the album are on a different level then almost all the rappers out there today. Very few can come close to how Eminem rhymes. In the past some songs on Eminems albums were missing passion and focus and seemed to be just fillers. I felt on this album there was a new intensity throughout the album accompanied with a focus that is unmatched. Chris you need to push the repeat button on The Recovery next time your in the whip.

  • This review is decent.

But I question whether or not you were actually listening to the album when you claim that ” ’25 to Life’ further emphasizes Shady’s focus on returning to his prime, focusing on his torn relationships” when the song is clearly about the rap game in general, which is revealed in the culmination of the song when Em says, “F*** you hip-hop, I’m leaving you. My life sentence is served b*****.” This is quite obvious to anyone actually listening to the record.

Another Classic, still no Marshall Mathers LP tho.

  • Wow, I read alot of these posts here and I just wanna say, if you are a fan of Eminem and have listened to him since his first album in 99 like I have then you should realize that every album is like a portion of his life and you are on a journey through his eyes every time he drops an album. Now, all these dudes who just talk about underground rappers when they bring up the best lyricists are just dumb, I swear dude, it’s common sense that all rapperes want to make money from it so if your still underground after ten years then maybe you ain’t as good as you think. Eminem is where he is because he was and is fukin good and got himself out of the underground shit. Just enjoy the ride when you listen to and Eminem album because none of you will ever experience what he has been through.

  • most of the comments to this review were better, more accurate and entertaining than the actual fuckin review

  • Hater hater hater, thats all DeLine is.

  • i would just like to say i agree with the true eminem fans on here this album is awesome, i would recommend a good 4 or 5 listens before you judge it, lyricaly amazing the best from em in years lets jus hope he keeps it up!! oh and the guy who reviewed this…. wat the fuk man you could of at least listened to it properly before you mis quote things….DICK!! FACT IS EM IS BACK AND LETS ENJOY IT!! fave songs talkin2myself, WTP, Going through changes,no love, space bound, 25 to life, love the way you lie.

  • People who say that “Eminem’s back” or anything like that obviously aren’t real Eminem or rap fans. Most his songs are about love(which we rarely heard Eminem rap about before) and many of them have autotune in them, Eminem’s turning pop and I hate to admit it because I always said he was the greatest rapper ever but unless he makes another album with Dr.Dre as the producer Eminem will never be as good as he was.

  • Eminem is back relapse sucked but his whole new album is crazy lyrics are tight beats are sick this will be the album of the year if its not people dont know what the F**K their talking about.

  • This man is a fucking genius.
    album is classic.No doubt.

  • what the fuckk this is the besttt shit ive heard in my life
eminems found himself this review is all bullshitt

  • you lost all credibility when you say how well crafted lil wayne’s lyrics are. Retarted 2nd graders with tourettes syndrome could write better lyrics than that tattooed covered junky. You suck. Your review sucks and you know nothing about Rap. Your favorite album is prolly the Carter by Lil Wayne which is absolute trash just like you.

  • I never leave comments on blogs but I have to say you NEED to listen to this album a few times before making any decisions. I thought it was decent the first few times I listened to it but it definitely becomes more infectious as you listen to it. I have had it for 3 days and now I cant stop listening to it.

Really deep lyrics and lyrically I agree M is the master. The Eminem I grew up listening to and fell in love with is back and once again he is doing some things that are groundbreaking.

  • This is one of his best albums to me and I been a fan since the begining, but with Ems fanbase as bi as it is, someone is gonna complain n matter what he does, I always laugh when I hear people say “Uhhh, its not as good as the MMLP, he fell off, he use to be good and now he sucks”………..I had the internet bak in 2000, so I remember the MMLP being just as hated on everything else he releases

  • i liked relaps really and this is good too

  • This review is ridiculous look at all the previous comments why the fuck did you waste your time writing out weezys verse? Don’t let this retard write another review he’s making this website look like shit I know I’m never looking at another review off this site. No one is on Em’s level who the fuck can spit like him you’re fucking retarded.

  • Look at all these fanboys, you’re all fucked up. Perfect review, recovery is fairly weak compared to ems first 3 albums and no where near as lyrical as before. A few decent tracks but his flow gets boring after a few songs (high pitched voice). I have a feeling some people wrote their reviews without even listening to all the songs. Some filler songs are REALLY wack like won’t back down, so bad, cinderella man, seduction, on fire, etc.

Tracks like talkin to myself, no love, 25 to life and space bound are much better, and for me save the album.

  • Btw, MMLP was an instant classic; this cannot even COMPARE to that, so don’t go there.

  • For everyone saying they think this album is crap and they miss the old shady, well you have to remember 1 thing EM GREW UP…….. I know I know its hard to believe that someone can change their outlook on life and want to be a better person and not so full of hate. I am a huge fan of em and am very happy for him. This album is nothing like his old stuff but its not ever going to be like his old stuff again because hes not a kid any more. He is still Eminem though. Everyone grows up and changes, its life man. Love the album stay true to who you are thats what matters and Eminem did that. Thank you for this great album.

  • this album is just as bad as relapse theres probly 5 tracks between both albums that are good the rest is dirt wheres all the aggresion and venom eminem is known for it sounds like the rest of the commercial crap thats out there now

  • I enjoyed your review. I think Recovery is one of Eminem’s best albums. Check out what we wrote about the album and let us know what you think. It was the FIRST review of Recovery published online:
    http://www.hiptics.com/2010/06/08/eminem-recovery-album-review-read-the-first-review-of-eminems-new-album/

  • Read through a couple reviews while listening to this for the first time. The first one I read was on pitchfork.com. That site should be boycotted. I’m listening to this album going “This is good. I missed him”, and that site gives him a 2.8/10. The dude writing that review should be fired. This one is better, the author at least doesn’t have a fundamental hatred of Eminem and puts forth reasonable arguments. However, it doesn’t at any point state that Em is a God, so it’s still not good enough.

  • you are a bunch of boring, obsessed retards, people are entitled differing opinions in matters of entertainment…this is a good album and will probably be blasting all over the country all summer long-so why get so angry if someone else doesn’t love it as much as you or proclaim it the crowning achievement of all human endeavor?? first of all i’m pretty sure most of the hard-core, self proclaimed em and hip hop fans on here never listen to any other genres…i like the velvet underground and willie nelson as well as ghostface or Nas or Biggie, i like lcd soundsystem and eminem, the rolling stones, who, beatles, beach boys, tupac, erik b and rakim, public enemy, dre, snoop, and your moms…quit throwing stones like a bunch of little bitches everytime someone disagrees with you, it makes you seem like ignorant inbred illiterate retards…a man can love Pantera and Goodie MOB douches-learn to step outside your tired little boxes and give something new a chance assclowns. That said, this is (in my opinion which you don’t have to agree with tardos) an awesome album, easily the man’s best since the eminem show and possibly even MMLP-so just listen to the shit and quit worrying about what other bored ass bitches who are busy typing opinions instead of gettin up in some strange like em (myself included!) think about it… all that matters is your own opinion: if you love this album then get blazed and rock them shits-if you don’t, don’t…it’s that fucking simple. (also to a couple of you douchebags who think you have to live in compton to enjoy hip hop or understand it can go fuck yourselves…bring that stupid shit into my area! yeah it’s rural you bitchholes and it’s back east! i’m pretty sure folk round here are every bit as well armed as you ghetto assbags…

  • any rap fan dislikin this album must be fuckin sick in his twisted head. just take a look at the second verse of that proof track. for real when it comes to bein poetic eminem kills tupac or nas or fuckin anyone. and when it comes to rhymin…don’t need to explain. this album is on the same level as SSLP MMLP and eminem show, but with a different style. no stannin, just tellin what’s real

  • ^ no way.

  • Hey, uh, know your shit before you write a review.

  • Rubbish review, without a doubt best rap album of the year so far, completely different to anything he has dropped before and works well.

  • I think the album rocks but you have to get the Explicit version to really get the taste of Eminem’s Music

  • Bass youre a fu&kin retard. Eminem is pretty good(i think hes losing his touch though) but theres no way in hell he kills tupac. tupac was the greatest ever and still is. Nobody can top him.

  • I think the Recovery album is great, way better then the last 2, flows tighter, he also cut down on the stupid shit, anybody that says this album is garbage is straight up retarded period. Its not about culture, its about hip hop as a whole, stop being a fuckin racist and listen to the album for real. And for who ever said Em needed Lil Wayne to make the album hot, are you kiddin me, have you ever listened to Lil Wayne? Half the shit he says doesn’t even make sense, the other half you can’t understand, on top of that he sucks face with Baby, Like Father, Like Son for real (It was a good album though) Anyway excellent work Em, this album being this hot, I can’t wait to see whats in the future, Out!!!

  • Great release

  • Give’em shit Nate!!!

  • This is a positive review for the album – read the last paragrah, Chris DeLine definitely give props to Shady. Now if you want to read a bad – and quite moronic – review for the album, just go to Pitchfork at http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14380-recovery/. You can just feel the jealousy reeking from Jayson Greene, hands down the most pathetic reviewer I even hear of. Meanwhile, the same website, Drake gets a way better review… no hate against the kids, but seriously, ’nuff said.

  • I’ll say a few things. His flow is the best it has ever been. It is dizzying, loaded with cadence; layered in multi-syllable rhymes, alliteration, metaphors, double entendres, consonance, assonance and just about every literary technique you can think of. Some of the time stamps he is rhyming to is utterly insane, “Won’t Back Down” is a great example. He switches flows effortlessly, easing between nice and steady to, breakneck speed. You’ll definitely have to listen a couple of times to get a hang of not only what he is saying but how he is saying.

Content wise its most of what we expect from Eminem: a compilation of scenes from his life, very personal story telling. However this Album is without a doubt his most focused work yet. Instead of feeling like individual tracks, songs feel like chapters in a book seemingly picking up from one part of the story to the next. Other than “WTP”, which mind you is a good song, this Album is arguably in my opinion his best work. It’s not a “shock” album like “MMLP”, or a social/political/personal album like “Eminem Show” or even “horrorcore/experimental like “Relapse”. It is a concentrated album, meant to show you the coldness in his life, the pain in his heart, the battle with inner demons and life in general, the lost of a loved one, and final confrontation to overcome all odds, even the deepest and darkest uncertainties in his own mind.

There are few rap artist who can maintain a 17 track album without sounding repetitive, and even less who can communicate such an intricate expose into their own lives. Eminem takes the best of all his albums, his mastery over rhyming, and his interesting life to construct one of the best albums in a very long time. In short, is nothing less than excellent.

There are about 7 or 8 songs that could easily stand toe to toe with even his previous best songs, yes even “Stan”, “Cleaning out my closet”, “Sayin goodbye to hollywood”, “Criminal”, “Role Model”, “Rock Bottom” etc etc.

Chris I believe you should revisit “25 to Life”. You get very lazy in your review toward the end of the album. Overall good review.

  • best album by far

  • I really enjoyed this album, I did download it, but I will be definitely picking up this album when it drops, it’s not my favorite album from Eminem, my favorite was the Eminem show, but definitely better than relapse. I loved the new direction he took, branching out and working with different people. would of liked to hear him on more hooks, but like I said I like the new direction..

  • This is his best album to date….I can’t stop playing it….I never thought I would be saying that an EMINEM album released in 2010 was his best ever…I’m amazed…SHADY has returned, and he’s better than ever…I can’t believe it…but I love it!!!!!

  • Robcards…I agree with you. Tupac is the greatest of all times, but only after Eminem. The rhyme schemes, the content, the shocking, the sick stuff, the emotive stuff, the underground stuff, the popular stuff, the hooks, the selfproduced beats…aint no way tupac could fuck with all of this at that high a level.

  • I dont think this is a bad review, i think the review is pretty honest and its very clear, (and it’s left the MC with one of his most complete records to date) i dont think thats a bad review…..

  • Great album!!

  • This album ain’t a classic. It’s not the same level as SSLP or MMLP. This isn’t even close to Eminems best. He is not back. This album cannot fuck with any of 2pacs.

Get real all of you Eminem ass kissers. This is a bad album, it’s repetetiveness gives me a fucking headache.

This review is decent, but it’s too nice. It’s funny how whenever someone says a little thing about eminem that tells the truth, he’s classified as a hater.

Fuck this CD, I’m bumping MMLP and Lupe fiasco all the way.

I’m gonna get hated on for this, but even Drakes album is less repetitive then this wack shit.

I guess I’m a hater now, but any true eminem fan knows this is true.

  • And btw, the pitchfork review is 100% true, it’s just that all you fucking suck ups won’t even contemplate the fact that anything eminem does can possibly be less then legendary. Those days are gone, and he’s doing some pop rock rap shit now.

The eminem I grew up listening to wouldn’t possibly have EVER made a song like Wont Back Down.

  • IMO, this is the first Em album that is good from start to finish. I’m a fan and love his work, but there’s always been a few tracks from each album that I just didn’t care for… but not Recovery… every track is just sick. He did a great job hooking up with producers this time. I only wish he found a real vocalist for the hook on “You’re Never Over”. His flow makes up for it. It was probably Em’s choice since it’s his heartfelt tribute to Proof, but his off-key r&b hook still makes me cringe. Oh well, Kanye got away with it before auto-tune made everyone an r&b star, so Em gets a pass for the one flaw I can hear in an otherwise perfect lp.

  • @Carter,

2Pac is dead and the game has changed. Nobody is claiming Eminem to be better than the 2Pac or any other hip-hop LEGEND, but in today’s mainstream game, with all the bs getting hyped, Eminem deserves to be wearing the crown right now. Even Lil’ Wayne can’t keep up with him on their collab track. Rock/Pop/Rap… seriously? That’s what Em has ALWAYS been. Most of the hits that put Em on the radar and made him extremely popular had elements of pop in the production (i.e. “My name is”, “The real slim shady”, “Stan” – which was a Dido remix… POP, etc.)

Therefore, he truly is getting back to the old Eminem, but with better/current production and a regained flow.

  • The fact that people are calling album “BAD” or “STRAIGHT TRASH” just show you don’t listen to HipHop, you just thumb thur it. Eminem will go down as the best to ever do it. While ill go in say that its not one of the best albums ever, you can’t take anything away from this. Times are changing just like music is. If you wanna live in the past with Ghostface Killah, Dangerdoom, Mos Def and all the others then its like HOV says “buy the old albums”. And who the hell are you to even put PackFM on the same page as Eminem?… fact is… most people that read this review are gonna say “Pack who”… People really need to sit down and listen to the pain and anger behind this music. Knowing what its like to lose a best friend and battle drugs, i can say its truly remarkable he has bounced back the way he did. But if your the type that wants to hear a fake N!gga rap about drugs, hoes, and killings he will never/has never done then this album is not for you.

Eminem doesn’t need help. Eminem was lost. Its what comes over a 4 year break. Like fighters have ring rust, rappers have mic rust. There is not one rapper that wants it wit Em. Give him a reason to release the real slim shady and you have trouble at your door step. Eminem has grown and he is off that stupid sh!t just like HOV is. Dudes need to do the same. Same as in GROW THE F%#K UP AND STOP LIVING IN THE PAST.

Rap will not be the same when Eminem leaves.

  • oh yeah and for your boy at Pitchfork or whatever… heres what most people have to say about it…

    http://ripfork.com/2010/06/jayson-greenes-review-of-recovery-by-eminem/

  • OK this critic officially pissed me off and show just how little critics know about there topics….He starts this horrible article off wrong right away with the following statement “Recovery does little to reinforce the idea that the new Slim Shady is really all that different from the old Slim Shady.” ….First off is this album called the slim shady LP? NO bc hes not shady on it you moron shady is a alter ego he plays when he wants to unleash on ppl and say effed up shit so to say this is not much different then the old slim shady is like comparing apples and oranges…Then this moron goes on to critique every song and quotes lines from each one til he fucks up and says “Fuck my last CD that shit’s in the track,”….hey dumbass that makes no sense EM says that shits in my trash!! exactly where this review should be!!

  • Whats with all these faggot ass eminem dick riding stans saying this album is good? It was a garbage ass album for Eminem’s standards, and you dumbasses are too stupid to realize it. First of all, the beats are wack. Second of all, there are too many fucking samples on the hooks. Third, Pink and Rhianna, wtf? That has to be the gayest fucking thing Eminem has ever done besides getting his face stuck up bruno’s ass crack. Jesus Christ, Em has fucking lost it. Btw, that WBD song fucking sucked DICK!!! As soon as his verse started all I heard was noise and a kid just yelling random words together. Like god damn Em, get back on your fucking drugs you fucking sell out. Oh wait, Em you fucking died in 06 and came back as a zombie so I don’t expect you to ever be your normal self again.

  • Sounds like Em is back on the crack still spit-tin out the hate flippin that same old tired smack for the latest effort he rummaged around in the cupboard found some old hash way in the back didn’t notice the bulge in the can when he popped the top and flopped it in the pan turned up the hate just as high as it could go even though he don’t really know just what hes doing but hes forgiven on that score just a bland man serving up some hate that must make him feel great from some old tin can with a hand that just don’t understand how to whip up a dish fitting for his fans same old slop seasoned with some twitterings from his so called friends call it new and refreshing genius without end on and on it goes but in the end its just like the beginning only this time around the dish was a little burned but yo we all choke it down starved as we are looking near and far always outside ourselves so we look to the star but the stars got his mind eyes fixed somewhere else so we have to eat whatever is served up at our seat and try and convince ourselves it is a rare treat a gourmet meal fit for a king but i think we could all find something a little tastier OTC at burger king

  • THIS GUY SHOULD STOP WRITING FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE… EMINEM IS ONE OF THE GREATEST…. N RELAPS WAS HARD.3AM. MY MOM. MEDICIAN BALL. …. DO I HAVE 2 GO ON?? anyWayz this was a good read%$? RECOVERY IS A EPIC CD!!!

  • mannys on welfare… he can’t afford the CD

  • Relapse was a sick album great!!! I dont like this album as much its not as good as the last one. WHAT HAPPEN TOO RELAPSE 2 DAMIT EM!!!!!!

  • Can’t deny it’s a great album. Return to true Shady.

    Hip-hop review linked from (URL=http://www.cracked.com/funny-4915-end-world/) here (/URL)

  • I think this album is amazing. Em has matured so much, he completely ditched the crazy accents and skits for strong lyrics that let us more into his life than he ever has before. He also ditched a lot of the anger that he had in previous albums, talking about Kim logically instead of saying how he wants to kill her.
“I still love your mother, that’ll never change,
Think about her every day, we just could never get it together.
Hey, wish there was a better way, for me to say it,
But I swear on everything, I’d do anything for her on anyday.”

Em makes us want to cry when he speaks about Proof and still makes us laugh when he mocks every other artist out there. Critics may be dismissing this album left and right but it’s nothing short of pure genius! Em’s been going strong since his first album and shows no signs of slowing down.

  • can someone tell me when he ever lost his flow.. NEVER. So what, he didnt put as much effort into the last couple albums. He had alot of shit happen to him. But every single time this man wanted to rip a track to peices, he did just that. Every year since 1999 eminem has killed every MC lyrically to this date even when he didnt put out the greatest of albums. listen to every freestyles he puts out in the last few years, they are all incredible enough to make your hairs on the back of your neck stand up. He may think that his last albums relapse was alright but in atleast 5 of those tracks, he murdered with his flow, wierd voice or not. After all isnt the lyrics all that matter. and who ever thinks that the recovery isnt incredible, well they can just stick with that other garbage they call rap, cause they dont know jack shit about how to listen to lyrics. thats not an opinion.

  • that review is complete garbage, you are entitled to your opinion and so am I. I think the majority of hip hop fans will acknowledge this album as a certified classic.

Talkin 2 myself is one of the most powerful and moving songs I have ever herd. It takes rare talent to produce a song like this and I can only think of one other person who was capable of producing something like this – 2pac!!

In regards to his flow….. PLEASE ….. his flow gives me goosebumps, there is nothing like it. completely original material and not that bs spitting about money, which everyone is tired of.

“So I pick myself off the ground and fuckin slam before I drown
Hit my bottom so hard I bounce twice suffice this time around
It’s different them last two albums didn’t count
Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was flushing em out”

To pull of an album of this caliber….. ie self loathing songs could have gone horribly wrong but em managed to explain in a way like no other, thats why is he the genius he is, plain and simple…

Well done on this album em, you have truly delivered for the fans this time!!!

  • I havent read one good review about Recovery, but everyone loves it. The people reviewing this album need to listen more and also realize this album will still be the biggest seeling of the year. His fanbase is intact. Lyrically rap faded and everyone accepted boring mediocre rappers. Eminem comes back and everyone acts like they forgot who the greatest was. Recovery is amazing.

  • this is an amazing cd hands down, he has found his way back finally! these lyrics are real. Any critics that had a problem with em in the past needs to listen to this and shut up.

  • Relapse was mediocre???? Stay Wide Awake? Beautiful? Deja Vu? his lyrical beastialityyyy in Underground??!?!?!?! whoever wrote this review is MEDIOCRE! Recovery is amaaaazzinngg!!!

  • um….ok Relapse was mediocre???? Stay Wide Awake? Beautiful? Deja Vu? his lyrical beastialityyyy in Underground??!?!?!?! whoever wrote this review is MEDIOCRE! Recovery is amaaaazzinngg!!!

  • FOR ALL THE REEEAALL EMINEM FANS!!!….

Every CD critics gave it a 3, then 3
Years later, they’d go back and re-rate it
And call the Slim Shady LP the greatest
The Marshall Mathers was a classic
    The Eminem Show was fantastic
But Encore just didn’t have the caliber to match it
I guess enough time just ain’t passed, yet
A couple more years, that shit’ll be ill-matic
And eight years later, I’m still at it…

JUST CHILL….everyone knows everything eminem touches turns to GOLD…or double diamond for that matter…haha

At the end of the day, he is the artist of the decade, and was gone for MOST of it!!!! (6 years!)lmaooo that says it all

  • Your all fucking idiots. Tha Carter 3 had more lyrical intelligence then Relapse.

Underground was one of the wackest tracks I have heard in my life from any rapper.

“Slim shady, shit sounds like a fable to me/Until he jumps out of the toilet when your takin a pee”

That shit made me cringe for months to come. Eminem is gone, anyone who says this album is up there with the best or its a classic is a fucking idiot and doesn’t know rap for shit. I agree with the guy above there somewhere, making a song with Pink and Rhianna was the most fucking stupid thing Eminem has ever done.

I can still salvage a bit of respect for Eminem if he returns to his FUCKING NORMAL VOICE. Even autotune isn’t as bad as the shit he’s doing right now.

Enough with the fucking aggressive shit, get back to your normal voice.

There is nothing even slightly lyrical about this album. Get real. Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 fucks this album 5 times over, as does Drake’s So Far Gone.

His lyrical reign is over, there use to be a time when Eminem was the God of lyrics.

  • In the past 2 years, the only real Eminem song I’ve felt was amazing was “Careful what you wish for”, and I have a feeling he wrote that song in his Eminem Show/Encore period.

  • I think its a very good album. Maybe not as good as MMlP, but why should it be better?

The songs are lyrical amazing! The punchlines, the word play are just….wow!

ALL of the songs have a meening to them, unlike Relapse. Each song

25to Life is very powerful, you think he’s talking about Kim or whatever but its Hip Hop. I love this album ONE of his best.

  • Whoever thinks this album isn’t his best is just retarded. Its one of his best yet, almost as good as if not better than the mmlp. I like it not only is he showing that hes getting over his drug and alcohol, but he is re asserting himself in the rapping world. Buy the album.

  • For people who think this album is even close to the Marshall Mathers or Slim Shady LP you are fucking retards and you no nothing about rap or eminem

  • Lol at rocknwoll posting his wack ass lyrics on every site on the net. Save the rapping for Eminem dude.

  • how the fuck has nobody mentioned space bound ! its by far his best song in like 8 years!

  • This guy must be a Soulja Boy & New Boyz fan, expecting that mainstream b.s out of this album. This is the BEST album out this year. Way better than Drake’s album.Relapse was ok, Refill was good, Recovery is GREAT!!!

  • Wow, go listen to your hannah montana shit. He is rapping about his life… you probably never even been through 10% of what he’s been through. That is why you have no feeling for his tracks.

  • Recovery is definitely up there with The eminem show, mmlp and the slim shady lp. My favorites on the album are: almost famous, space bound, love the way you lie, cold wind blows, 25 to life, and cinderella man.

  • man i love all his work. this song here put a tear in my eye. once you think it cant get better, he comes out with this. wow over wow.

  • I cannot believe that someone tried to analyze an album of an actual artist. All artists are fucked in the head, especially the best ones. Obviously I am a fan of the album and cannot say anything other than Em killed it. It was, hopefully, a testament to the unbelievable talent he holds. This album put him above Pac and Biggie. That is saying an incredible megaton worth of sincerity; especially due to the fact that they both are great and Eminem is better. I cannot help but say that Eminem is the best rapper ever; that is to say we will never know how good Big L would’ve been. Get your analogies, metaphors, similes and all that shit in line; this guy, who is white by the way, destroyed all other current rappers by a light year. If you are a fan of Gucci, Spider man nig or whatever wack garbage then you are exempt from this. After all, Wu Tang said that the dumb are only intrigued by the drumb. Eat a dick you biased and absolutely illiterate critic. What do you do well? Other than put out a less than well written, weakly worded column? I hope you’re payed by someone, that would make two dumbshits.

    Sincerely,
    Chad McNeill

  • Everyone ! Settle the fuck down ! Clearly this is one of his greatest albums to date. Make sure you check the reviewer and there age before you freak out as alot of reviewers who do these reviews didn’t grow up with eminem.

The Album is gonna get album of the year.

Fuck I listen to metal and play in a metal band and I know this album is great…

I have had it for a month now. even the band I play for … we have been jamming on

weeends and once we come out of the basement from a jam… its been nothing but

    beers and this album…

  • Fucking Recovery sounds so emo -_- , Eminem, you’re old, just quit, I don’t wanna be dissapointed again, you’re first album Infinate is better than Relapse & Recovery. Even Encore wasn’t that bad compared to Relapse. You’re career ended after The Eminem Show. You’ve lost all your humour and rapping spirit now, you’re too emotional, so go retired, cause you need it. Everyone can accept a little change, but you’ve just gone too far. I mean, I would expect you to be dissing Rihanna and Pink, not fucking getting them to feature in your fucking songs.
You also said you’re going back to the Slim Shahdy LP and the old shit, well if you look back at your old tracks, you’d realise that all of them are produce by either you or dre, not by all these other producers that you’ve hardly worked with, they don’t know they real Em.
Another thing as well, I thought you couldn’t change the way “you think” and the way you are, and if you “offended anyone, good, cause” you “still don’t give a fuck”, that’s very hard to believe when you’ve now said that you’ll censor all your homophobic lyrics (no offence to anyone who’s a homosexual), that right there is whats calling selling out.

I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but this is coming from a dedicated fan, I just don’t want to be dissapointed anymore by my all time favourite artist.

  • Or if you’re not gonna quit, then atleast go back and listen to your old songs, then start making new ones, cause honestly, I’m starting to think you’ve lost it.

  • LOL@ThisGuy.. “25 to life… talkin about his torn relationships.” ..he’s talking about his relationship with HIP HOP. GOD DAMN IT LISTEN TO THE FUCKING ALBUM AT LEAST IF YOUR GOING TO “REVIEW” IT (and i put the word “review” in the largest parenthesis i could find mentally). You know that cliff that Em jumps off of in the Not Afraid video? ..yea, go head and jump off of that for real.

  • i think this album is classic.

  • whose doing these reviews?! on fire is the coldest track, if anything that track reaffirms him back. classic album, if i had 4 hands i’d give it 5 thumbs up!

  • I love all this guy categorizes all the songs by just one line. One of if not the best album yet. Eminem’s back, he finally got rid of the annoying accent which made recovery suck, and his lyrics have meaning again. With songs like 25 to life, never over, spacebound, love the way you lie, and Not afraid (best song ever!) how could you not like recovery.

  • this cd is the fuckin shit bro….relapse was too…he made relapse in honor of what proof would have him do, and that was too spit the most over the top shit he could think of and he did…..recovery is a whole nother beast….EM is the best MC in the game right now hands down…..dont believe me …play his dispicable freestyle….

  • Did any of you see that infomercial for the Recovery album that aired during the lakers final? It has Vince Offer, the shamwow guy selling his album. it was very funny.

what did you guys think? here is a link just in case:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USkcEhOwilk

  • Eminem is the best hand down , always will.
Eminems songs tell stories , people think Lil Wayne is better , than how come Wayne cant think of anything better to rap about other than pu$$y, money and drugs, hes a joke.

  • Eminems Recovery album is the defineti the best album he has put out. The best song is Talkin to Myself

  • i love it. good aggression and also relapse wasn’t that bad either like deja vu, and underground and some other songs world so cold and yeah this album is better straight out but if you don’t like it kindly fuck off cos its great and respect it you fag, also lil wayne alright and all them other talib kweli and that are whingers ha ha. i’m a wayne fan also but nobody is as good as em. and if you reckon their better than call them up and get them to battle eminem because they won’t, they’re too scared, that scared that they won’t even pick the phone, better still they’re that scared that you won’t be able to find their phone number. yeah.

  • sophias post was mesmerising like shes a psycho analylist and i want to do her immediately. and that vince with eminems recoery was pretty funny.

  • I’m a South African and a die hard fan of hip hop. Recovery is dope it shows creativity and a non conformist approach to music.I think it’s about time we as headz accepted change, hip hop, as all other genres of music evolves. Em’s album is another sign of that. Who have ever imagened Em and Wizzy on one track, I mean thats dope. Regardless of what anyone thinks, I was sick and tired of Dre beats dominating Em’s material so this for me is a breath of fresh air.

  • thank god EMINEM is BACK this is a great album.i knew he could come back strong relapse was a bit of a let down but this makes up 4 it hes back to that real hip hop style his punch lines are crazy love it hes back hope it does well.shady 4 life

  • Horrible review. Couldn’t finish reading it when you got to 25 to Life, the song is going to be a classic and is one of the best he’s written. It’s about leaving Hip Hop, not Kim again. Usually when writing a review you need to listen to the tracks. “On Fire” and “Seduction” are both high quality lyrical pieces of work, beats lack, but they have a “Relapse” feeling to them and if you remember this was supposed to be “Relapse 2″ not “Recovery” so you have to expect it to be somewhat like Relapse, Marshall did exceptionally well making it sound different though with those 2 songs really being the only exception.

  • You can talk about Slick Rick. You can sway me with visions of Pac from beyond the grave. I can see the shadow of Biggie in clouds from the smoke machine. I know Jigga is just around the corner listening. Reality is thus…Eminem is the greatest MC of all time. Even an album as off the mark as Relapse spoke volumes. Forget about autotune. Forget about pop bullshit. This is hip-hop. The question is, can you handle it?

  • eminem is definetly the GOD of rap no one can touch him. Drake? who the fuck is drake. Ive been listen to eminem since i was 10 years old hes the only rapper i can keep on my ipod without getting bored of his songs.

  • Chris Deline,
U are a moron… I expect a casual “rap” fan to not appreciate the complex flows and hilarious punchlines in this record… But for a professional critic to not get the genius in this record is regrettable and unforgivable…
“Eminem’s failure to find a comfortable flow”
Anyone who has listened to HIP HOP for any amount of time can tell that he is just attempting to solidify his standing as one of the top five greatest emcees in the history of the hip hop game… Ur a joke… Stick to reviewing f cking hannah montana and d4l… Ill bet u would rate laffy taffy as the top record in the last decade right? You’re a joke, u should be in ur basement with a shotgun in ur mouth and a toe on the trigger d*ck

  • Dan’s clearly a fag. “The world’s gassed up and I fed it beans” or whatever. ROFLMAO listen to the first track on Pharoahe’s “Internal Affairs”. There’s a line “smack a nigga in the mouth/stab his mother in the eyeball/I brawl like Mike Tys’ in his prime/My advice to you: think twice before you rhyme/Cuz I wink once [one time] the bitch was mine”. Fanboys such as you know ZIP about hiphop. Shhhhhatap.

  • This album shows his growth as a rapper, musician, and artist. And to people who say its not as good as the sslp or the mmlp… it cant be, because Eminem has changed as an artist and the lanscape of hip hop has changed also. When people look back on this album they’ll say its a classic, because they cant appreciate and give something new the respect it deserves. And once Marshal Mathers leaves the game he’ll be on the same level if not higher than 2pac.(I know thats a bold statement but its possible?) The past will always be held in higher regard than the present to people nowadays. I love this album and Marshal Mathers. I hope he keeps it up… He’s the best.

  • Seriously, everyone bad mouthing the review has done one or two things….either not read the review in its entirety or not listened to the album fully.

  • Lol, what a fucking retard. It’s like he tried to make a biased review. On the fact you did make an excellent biased review and I suppose if you hate Eminem you’ll love it. But honestly, take your thumb out your ass and rewrite this shit.

  • Chris Delying stole this review

  • I’ve been a big Eminem fan for a long time, and when I heard about this CD I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to get it. I found Relapse to be decent, he seemed a little unsure of what he was going for and just picked one theme and really tried to rid it and it didn’t seem to work (though I thought many of the instrumentals were great). With the release of Recovery I figured he would have maybe settled and become familiar with rapping again, apparently I was wrong. There are a few good tracks, but for the most part the lyrics are lacking and seemed regurgitated, as well as the instrumentals not having that same intensity and head-nodding factor to them as there were in earlier CDs. He doesn’t seem to have that same kind of cleverness and flow that he once had, I can see how what he might be going through has affected his music but that doesn’t mean that it’s good or that I have to like it because of the circumstances he is under.
This isn’t his first attempt of being deep or trying to truly express himself (Marshal Mathers LP – Kim, a great expression of his frustration and relationship with Kim presented in a unique way that really draws you in/ Encore – Mockingbird, here he seemed to really place himself on the line and doing something unfamiliar to him, sing, but he seems to make it work and you can really sense the love he has for his daughter, and you really get a glimpse at the real him/ The Slim Shady LP – Rock Bottom, a great combination of a real rap but a ballad to difficulties of life that seemingly anyone can relate to.). But on this album there is all this talk of love for some girl (anonymous) but at the same time is saying he hates here and he doesn’t trust her so “fuck hoes”, which he has pulled off before (Encore – Crazy in Love) but now it just comes across as whiny and pathetic and I felt turned off by this whole theme.

I would have liked nothing more than to have Eminem come about with an album that blew me away and could have been my new favorite CD of his, but I wasn’t. Overall 6.3/10

  • Eminem is a lyrical genious. This album is amazing. I agree that his message is not what was expected as a changed man in recovery but he has made the right about face and should be respected in doing so.

He is not a saint. Did you expect him to morph into the Dalai Lama?

  • I don’t know why people hate on Relapse so much. I loved that CD. It felt like a throwback to classic Em.

Recovery is also a great album.

  • 1. MMLP
    2. SSLP
    3. Recovery

I put it in his top 3, hands down. National publications have no idea what they’re talking about. For Christ’s sake, Pitchfork gave it a 2.8 out of 10…

Don’t listen to the bull**** these editors are spewing.

  • It’s a fairly decent album. Only got it yesterday, so I’m still getting used to it.

Obviously Em isn’t how he used to be, and I’m fine with that. I enjoyed his music then, and I still do now.

    He’s still got it.

  • This is one of the few albums that you can actually listen to all the way through without skipping any tracks! Not seeing how anyone could give this cd a bad review his flow was sick and lyrics were incredible! Hes back!

  • How bias do you sound? Eat a dick, this is mainstream rap not underground

  • i think eminem’s new album is amazing. He had some struggles in his life( drugs, prrof’s death, bitter relationships, ect…) he’s trying to deal with it himself. he’s man enough to admit that he had problems. i thank him for everything. he’s helped me handle my life since i was 14 and now i completely put my respect into him.. eminems a greatguy.

  • “the rest of Recovery does little to reinforce the idea that the new Slim Shady is really all that different from the old Slim Shady.”

Are you serious?!? ….What do you expect to see? The change he’s talking about is away from the funny/jokey Eminem who became a bit caught up in pop culture references ….this album sees a drastic change over to something more aggressive, more meaningful and more like the OLD SHADY!

Honestly, Id love to know what you expected.

  • It’s a good album, no doubt about it. But i still feel that his revisited slim shady persona feels a bit old and done. And i would like to point out that the new more contemplating side to eminem is not att all that new. He was contemplating and confessing on slim shady lp aswell and he has been writing stuff like that ever since. Shit, even the album infinite showed eminems confessional side. Why he’s taking shots at michael j fox instead of kanye is a complete fucking mystery. Em states that he would have his ass handed to him. Bullshit. Em is probably one of the worlds most skilled battle rappers and he would have ripped kanye to shreads. The only reason i can think of is that he pussied out.
He’s up there with the greats and his lyrical content is so rich in all aspects that i don’t really see that anyone at the top can touch it. THE ONLY PROBLEM I CAN FIND WITH THIS ALBUM IS THAT ONE OF THE GREATEST RAPPERS OF ALL TIME IS NOT MAKING HIP HOP, HE’S MAKING POP MUSIC.
4/5 Em, but you shoulda killed it!

  • For eminem to keep his status as one of the greats he needs to care less about getting new fans and more about impressing his old fans. Period.
If you didn’t like eminem before but you like this album, it’s sadly a sign of failure on his part.
The great thing about em is that people all over the world felt that he spoke to them, rich white kids and poor black kids alike, no difference. Nowadays he’s become a pop idol only idolized by adolescent girls.

  • Thanks for this great album Em!
    Definitely one of my favourite

  • Recovery is a complete album… it has it all, from slow emotional songs to his fast freestyle songs… clearly goes deep and touches places in ya and opens ya eyes a little more! Eminem did it 100% right!!!

  • Lol you say Fire was the weakest on the album, I find it funny that in hip hop wich is pretty much about poetry, wich relys on word play, you pick out the most eatem up song hes ever made, finally stating that hes the best, and laced with insane compound syllable metaphors and similies and say that? It makes me think you are an average fan rather than a hip hop head. Which in turn makes me wonder why you write a review, then again, its a free country huh.

  • Lol and you say the one with Lil Wayne is the strongest track, yeah Im startin to see you are an average listener, kinda like my girl, likes the beat, misses the most insane punches and has no clue whats harder to write or which punchlines multies and compound syllable ryhmes take skill to write and which can be freestyled on point like wayne. nothing wrong with that, thats why Lady Gaga and Beiber are in business.

  • most of you people suck.

first off relapse lyrically was genius.
recovery is alright but relapse was better.

its just kind of a very strange cd for eminem

feat. pink, lil wayne, and rihana?

most of the beats dont even sound like dre beats. i havent checked yet but im pretty sure he worked with other producers.

the reason why it got changed to recovery was because he started working with different artists and producers and the album took on a whole new sound. i dont think any of these songs were originally on “relapse 2″

it seems like he went to commercial approach, and i guess i cant blame him. most people were too stupid to take relapse for what it was, nothing short of brilliant, some of the most original material to hit hip-hop in a while.

while all you idiots enjoy you katy perry and snoop dogg bullshit it deteriorates the surrounding music industry to conform to what moronic 15 year old girls want. its sad

i went to a methodman redman concert, well actually it was a snoop dogg concert but meth and red opened up. they put on an amazing show everyone was blazing and going crazy, it was great. then when snoop dogg came out no body gave a shit. he even said “boston dont have love for snoop dogg?” he also said we would always be blazing at his shows here. but when you turn into commercial trash you forget about your original fans. its sad.

whats also sad is eminem saying relapse was basically a mistake.

  • check out rock the bells, krs wu tang rakim slick rick gov island nyc august yea

  • first the fuck all this album deserves 5 stars or whateva da fuck yall niggas do cuz dis album was off da chain and sso was relapse the refill tracks for the second relapse album was sick as fuck buffalo bill was ill dawg go buy thiz shit homie

  • I agree with @IBZ182_EM_IS_DA_BEST, Recovery is the best rap album ever!!! Eminem is an animal on the mic, which is why he is the G.O.A.T.

  • lmao the reviwer was probably acting like lil wayne getting high then talking

  • y do people think relapse sucked? no flow? get the fuck out he is probaly “apologizing” on recovery so all u bitches who hate relapse will shut up already he rips it every time

  • Eminem is easily the best rapper around. hands down the best album he’s ever made. AMAZING!!

  • How can you say Em’ is struggling to find his flow? If he is then I dare you to show me someone who isn’t. Recovery is hands down, album of the year. That’s why he even had a song for the critics… His message says it all..

  • If there’s an album coming after recovery, that will be the album where Em’s got original stuff to say. Recovery is the album connected to Relapse, he’s just clearing his head after the stuff he’s been through the past few years.
Recovery is definitely a real good album, it’s an album where he proves that he’s one of the best music artists in the world, and probably the last real rapper. Recovery is amazing!

  • This album is very good and is one of his best. Not all the songs are great but none are painful to listen to either. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5550062/best_recovery_songs_six_best_eminem.html?cat=2

  • Ok, I’m not a fan of Eminem,or rap/hip hop at all really. The last time I listened to rap and meant it Tupac was still alive. That being said, this album has been non stop through my headphones for the last week, its well done, the guy has his niche and though there are some retarded shady lyrics in there theyre easily overlooked by the talent this guy has, unreal. I don’t think there are many rappers out there then can make a guy like me want more but this album is incredible, this review is shit i can’t believe the reviewer skipper over “space bound” like it was just filler, that track is tight…more shit like this i might just start listening to radio again, one day, maybe..ah, no, fuck that…
best album so far this year that includes the music thats been coming out in my genre..ozzy, korn etc…this is some fresh shit and really sets the mood up for summer…enjoy!

  • oi its fucking humbug and this album is the bollox eminem is the best rapper of the last 20 years so all u haters suck my mother fucking dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • praise the ultimate rapper ever exsisting!

This album is a must buy! I suggest not to listen to the album
in the web. Just buy it (because we all must support Em for this
shit and its totally worth it!) and listen to it first time with your system bro.
Trust me you’re goanna love it.

to come to an end, I never expected Em putting an album like this again!
    Fortunately, he disabused me completely!

P.S. As a matter of fact, no one needs this review when he already has this album!!!

  • I do not understand how any of you can say that this is a “classic” album. His lyrics are overall mediocre and his flow is not in sync, compared to his previous albums. Right now he is struggling to find his voice in a lyrical and rhythmical way. Furthermore, the main theme of this album is how he has been blessed with a second chance (whatever that means) and is going to persistently work hard to not disappoint his fans. Simply, in my opinion, this album did not have to be made if he was just going to talk about his lacking confidence and the poor quality of his previous albums. I thought this review was pretty accurate and do not misconstrue my disappointing sentiments. I do love eminem and have always been a fan ever since I bought the Marshall Mathers LP when I was twelve. I hope he does “come back” better than ever.

  • I was disagreeing with what they were saying in some parts but in the end it made it a lot better, Eminem is the best and he always will be the greatest white rapper or just rapper in general.

  • 25 to life is an instant classic and not just for Eminem’s belt but for hip-hop as a whole – that track is insane and probably one of his best; and the editor gives it one line?!?

There are tracks on here that I find myself skipping more often than others (No Love (personally I think Wayne ruins the track), Won’t Back Down, and Space Bound). However, the number of spins I have given to tracks like Taking to Myself, Seduction, Cinderella Man, 25 to Life, and Untitled more then makes up for it.

Overall, the whole album is fire and in my opinion reflects a re-energized, self-confident, grown person. This observation is partly reflected in the fact that Eminem (and I could be wrong about this) seems to reference himself (Marshall or Mr.Mathers) more frequently then Slim Shady throughout this album.

  • This review is comlete garbage. You either dont know what your reviewing or dont know how to give credit where credit is deserved. you need to quit your job, cuz every coment on here is call you out… so your obviously wrong. My review:

Eminem comes back strong, admitting his faults and failers in his last album. Eminem and DJ kahlil put together one of the most powerful songs on the album(wont back down). This nearly flawless album is a must buy, must have. A true recovery from the sinking ship he was on 2 years ago. Hats off to you Em’ and thank you for this amazing LP.

  • At first I read this review and was afraid Eminem’s new achievement would go unappreciated. I thought it underplayed all of the talent, creativity and gut-spilling in the record. Then I started reading these comments. Thank god there ARE intelligent people out there. Seriously, Chris DeLine, look for a new job. You suck the sweat off a dead mans balls. Most of my opinions about the album itself exist in these other peoples comments.

  • I Havent got a chance to hear the whole album yet but so far what i have heard this album is AMAZING so anybody that thinks otherwise you dont know what good musi cis

  • 25 to life is a relationship with hip hop…the whole album is classic…never heard any better flow and compound syllables…he dont wont you to hear the beat…his voice and syllables are beat over the beat…and he murders it…who else can do that and be deep lyically?

  • I think a lot of people don’t realize how important Eminem is; he is a prophet; is a Martin Luther King, he is a Malcolm X and so and so forth. People actually listen to his songs; most music today is just catchy singing with catchy beats; Tik Tok by Kesha is a perfect example; read the lyrics of that song and it is one of the most retarded you will ever hear; the rest of music is about fat booty women; blinged out cars and jewelry…no substance.

  • I have to agree with this review. The album was yes, good or even mediocre (in my opinion). It wasn’t classic… much better than Relapse, though. Some people are so ignorant about Eminem, it’s like you can’t say shit without people flipping and being all “NO, NO… HE’S AMAZING; THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING.” It’s over-hyped, almost like certain people like it just because they think they should. It’s good to hear him spittin’ some good lyrics but I don’t think MANY of the people who listen to Eminem’s music truly “listen”. Half the people are just mainstream lovers (13 year old girls who also listen to Ke$ha for example, wtf?) and do you really think they look for the deeper meaning in his lyrics? Nope.

He’s got some good stuff in here, some not so great. I do miss the old Eminem, in my opinion he isn’t “back”.

Anyways, it’s just my opinion. Let the “hater” comments begin.

  • liked eminem years ago but went off him a bit,got this album 2 days ago.its a classic.cant turn it off,its brilliant anyone who thinks different are probably michael buble lovers

  • eminem’s new album is the shit and i doubt anyone is forcing any of u to read this review. u don’t like good 4 u, so u got an opinion, that’s cool. if u like great, every fan is needed! and ppl that come on here just to bitch and argue STOP, and go argue on FB or myspace or email. but this review isn’t the greatest but it isn’t the worse, but come on the guy was just stating his opinion. he’s not trying to offend anyone, and y is everyone acting like he’s stating a fact, cuz it’s not its just an opinion. but i luv his new album, my opinion is that his album is the greatest one ever!!!

  • Yeah… Thanks for your opinion….. but stfu. Can’t believe you said “On Fire” was the worst track on the album….. listen to the begining of it again. Critics man….. ain’t never got nothing nice to say

  • this album is indisputably one of the best out right now and this review is retarded as fuck. if you a hater then don’t listen. how about that. obviously the dude is trying to do better for himself and his fans, everyone should jut step back and let him. i never heard people talk so much shit about the hard work an artist put into an album for himself his fans and his homie who passed. take your negativity, put it in your pocket, and save it for later because no one needs it.

  • “25 TO LIFE” IS ABOUT HIP HOP, NOT EMINEMS PAST TORN RELATIONSHIPS. Who published this? Your fired!

  • are you dumb? you give this a bad review ? hes expressing everything of what hes been through with all the bulshit and hes trying to get out of it and hopefully he does because hes back to his normal self and you give it a bad review and try to say hes not the same your not all there man your just a sad cunt thats all this is his best album by far and all of his other albums are good too anyways so i reckon you get a life yeah fucking sad cunt he’d give you a back a hander if he saw you though you wouldnt have the balls to go up to him and say that his albums no good fucking queer fuck

  • this album iz a shit..must have…

  • this album suck nough said em is not back and never will be back

  • fucking great cd. “your never over” gives me chills everytime i listen to it. there are a few great songs on here

  • the reviewer is a losa
both the albums r smash…n for the suckas who think the review well to put down em
    well F U

  • i’m pretty sure everyone knows that eminem is the greatest rapper ever. wut i don’t get is that everyone keeps on dissing the person who wrote the review, but yet i wonder if the person has ever checked this since he posted his review?

  • i hate how everyone says its not better than his other albums everyone says they want him to sing like he use to. but then every one be bitchin tht its old songs just repackaged.HEs maturing alot more best album hands down!!!! keep slayin em!

  • wow! that’s just f’ckin pahetic. What’s more pathetic than people who just come here and waste their time to say that em’s new album is the worst thing they ever heard in their life (I just don’t understand by the way how this can be fuckin garbage if it’s the most popular album these days)? Not a lot of things. Well there is people who come here just to diss other people or intimidating them and not even talking about the review subject(c’mon, go play outside, go get a job or something).

My frustration put aside, i think that this review was right on the point. But unlike many opinions, I don’t think that rapping on heavy guitar and singing in songs is an insult to rap. People saying this have just not openminded musical opinions.
This was a real good cd, but not his best.

P.S. Sorry if my english isn’t quite right, I speak french

  • This is one day in your life. If we were to make a video about “A Day in the Life of…” I would hope that at least one of your daily trials and tribulations causes you to think, truly think, about what you have learned from other people. Put on their moccasins, put on their shoes! WE COULD ALL USE A LITTLE CHANGE. Thats what Eminem brings to us: Pure unadulterated opinion on life, relationships, and passion! I emphatically encourage you to listen to this album with an open mind. Look past the words and dive deep into the lyrics. And no matter what they tell you always stay beautiful. he’s back, PEACE!

  • I liked Relapse better than Recovery.. why is it so hated on :(

  • What is kid talkin’ about?I loved this cd.Do you want EVERY song on the cd to be about the same thing? This is Marshall Mathers,if you dont like it move around, right now,yo.seriously.This is real.Better those other rappers out there, for real.Fck you!

  • Evryone who is hating on the cd…

Can 2million people buying this album in the first week be wrong!?

    And people still buying it!!!

  • Yo this album is the S**T!! I’m in Afghanistan and have not been able to get my hands on the full CD yet but I’ve listened to a few of the tracks and I’m loving it and so are my soldiers. I play “I’m Not Afraid” when these fools get down sometimes and s**t gets crazy. I’m glad Eminem is back..Hip Hop is not dead thanks to albums like this one. I also heard that Em and Jay-Z are going on tour together…Man what I wouldnt give to be back in the states right now. This review blows! I give him credit for the last paragraph though. Not saying give Em a 10 but pay attention to the lyrics first before you write a review. Plus I bet this guy dont even listen to Hip Hop. It’s like me writing a review on Britney Spears….yo the video for “Womenizer” was hot though

  • i think this is a pretty good album…
    my favorite tracks are

cold wind blows – on fire – seduction – love the way u lie – almost famous – no love – so bad – untitled ( here we go ) – …..not saying other ones are good but those are the songs i listen to the most… my favorites from relapse are

3 am – my mom – stay wide awake – medicine ball – must be the ganja – beautiful – de ja vu – underground ( the beat sounded a little off….but little due people know is that eminem asked dre to give him a hard and difficult beat to rhyme to and eminem murdered this track..he made the beat sound like it wasnt off track once you heard the song like 2 more times..underground is my favorite lyrical song on relapse. i liked crack a bottle a little and same song and dance…but you cant forget about the 7 bonus songs from relapse on refill..and i liked all them songs except taking my ball..so i cant say that album was garbage..ill just say its better than encore…but good job em on recovery…its a banger!!

  • i think all of the songs are great!!! and relapse wasn’t bad but he was using weird accent voices like when he says “something in th eair is making me high” and he says it high pitched, but now in recovery he has other talk like that for him which is pretty cool. oh and i forgot to say in my last post that the guy who wrote this review needs to go fuck himself and then to go have a whale fuck him and then get eaten by a shark because thats what that deserves is to die.

  • seen eminm at oxegen . He showed that he is back with an absoluely amazing performance that made jay z who performed on friday look mediocre even though jayz is brilliant . Simply class , as is recovery. Great album

  • Eminem’s recent albums have disappointed me. Recovery had nothing for me while Relapse had a few songs I enjoyed. I thoroughly enjoyed his older music better than his current projects.

  • Finally, no more stupid voices and accents, a CD focusing on music and not bullshit skits. 4-5 minute songs with not even 1 skit, and probably 15 of these songs are incredible and could be singles. Its a step in the right direction and we can take him a bit more seriously for once. Great CD that is not watered down with the shit we don’t wanna hear. Good job anf keep it up.

  • awesome cd best since tsslp…

  • This review is WACK, this album is unreal i love it!

  • CRAZY GOOD!!!!!!!

  • Recovery is a great CD & actually has 2 songs in the top 10 on the billboard!

Im not afraid to say Emeinem is back on top with a quality music!

  • THIS IS THE BEST ALBULM HE MADE VERY GUD IM GOIN TO JAMMIN TO THIS I LIKE CINDRELLA MAN AND GOING THROUGH CHANGES

  • this review is crap.. he spits like no other in this album. he had flow in his last cd’s but only on some songs. this ENTIRE cd is great. Seduction adds little to the cd? Its a fukin great song. i cant believe this review its crap.. Next thing you know he is going to say that eminem is really black.

the dude up there nate dogg is stupid

  • Dear Author,

Please tell me that your some sort of autistic person who some how fails to find how beautiful this album is. Lets critic your review of this review. First off this critic fails to take into account that “hooks” take up on average 1 min off each track(if not more with the long intros/outros). Marshall however created an entire ALBUM with about 1 minute in “hooks”. He is superb, and the fact is that his relapse album was still way better than some of wayne, kanye west, and other rappers’ crap I’ve heard. Most albums get played for probably 5 tracks, shit I know people who have even created cd’s with shortened track list even after they BOUGHT the album. RECOVERY is by far one of my most played albums, and I’m sure we know people who torrented the album and then went out and BOUGHT it just to show support. Critic I wish you had a little less hate in your heart and saw Marshall for who he is the illest rapper, with the best venom.

    Hater

  • Thiss is definatlyy a big comeback for eminem ive missed himm alott andd he’s backk better than ever :) i thinkk thiss album is going to becomee a big hit :)

  • :/

Let me start off by saying I am amused by the number of people who panned this review and accusing it of hating on Recovery.

It is generally a positive review on the albym. Also even if there are a few dissatisfaction voiced, it is the reviewer’s opinion. And while I am completely in love with this album, I can’t expect 50 million people to feel the same as I do. This is a good review although a little too long-winded.

  • fuck your back when you gives up its over keep it up man

  • This album is terrible. I thought it would be awesome but is messy and crap at the same time. Not like his clasics eg like toy soilders. Love the way u lie is pretty good and the song with lil.

  • “Please tell me that your some sort of autistic person” what a fucking dick. Hater eat a cock. Remove that comment he made.

  • Agree with this review, his flow is just lacking emotion or anything, it’s like he just yells it. Stop with “it’s just haters” comments it’s annoying the album is definitely lacking flow, the beats are bad and the guest appearances are dumb, he just wants to regain the fame again and he has to do it by putting some of the most popular people out right now.

  • This album is so different from Marshal Mathers LP and we all should admit it. It’s a real big change for him, I don’t know if it’s better or worse, but at least worth listening…for sure. Well, I couldn’t find almost any fine flows in it though…. ha

  • i thought that his music was okay but he has abandoned every one of his fans who followed him and listened to his message he says hes going to be the same for his whole life guess not… still love him but if he goes back to what he does best and doing the things that he did be for recovery i believe he will be bigger and better then ever before

  • Whoever thinks this album sucks obviously didn’t listen to it more than once. You have to really listen to what he is saying. This is one of the best albums I’ve heard and eminem is back. So don’t fuckin hate if you haven’t really listened :D this critic didn’t even get his lyrics right.

  • This album is really deep, it talks about proof and about his former addiction. he also tells how he is getting over everything and startin anew for da us, da fans… this album is the greatest…

  • Eminem Recovery -ever since i was 7 years old i have loved eminem no matter wether it was appropriet for that age i love his songs i am now 16 going on 17. i love eminem so much with this album i think he to a great road i his life now that he see the right way to go. This album is really deep you can feel eminem’s emitions in his songs. Also Love the song I Love The Way you Lie -eminem ft Rihanna <– good song

  • Critics have to much times on their hands to look at the bad. I don’t see this critic creating a masterpiece dominating the rap music charts. Great he throws in lines used in the album but does he really understand the feel for the music or the meaning? I think not. If you can’t relate to the music don’t post anything. Critics like this judge on the cover of the music but not into the deeper meaning within the lyrics. It’s sad to see people put other peoples work down. Eminem is by far one of the most talented or by far the king of rap hands down. The emotion in his lyrics and the meaning behind it is what music is all about. Not every person can understand this ^ the critic above, and others who just like to hate on other peoples masterpieces. This critic seems to think he has had a harder life than Eminem or other people who has it worse. It is a true Cinderella story. This guys review is garbage. Until he can open his mind and heart he will never truly understand. I guess he can just waste his life away writing terrible reviews that no individual will simply agree on. It’s just too bad people out their always have to one up people. Therefore Terrible review whereas their is no emotional connection with the artists lyrics. He is obviously not listening. Probably some rich guy who has had it easy his entire life.

  • I was pleasantly surprised with this album!

  • This is his best album hands down! He’s back!
Love it or hate it, ya can’t ignore it! You’re all writing about it aren’t ya!!!
Love you Em! Still one of the greatest!

  • Point Blank PERIOD! Recovery is the best mass producted album in 2010.
Its amazing how any man can come terms with himself and introduce it to world.
SPACEBOUND is the best song on the album easily…. and no worries…. HE MADE IT WITHOUT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Definitely the best album year yet. every track is smouldering hot. My favourite? no love, ft weezy

  • This Album is 3 outta 5 stars at best. Just because he is the only real white rapper on the scene quit giving him more props than he deserves. If he was black this album would have already dropped off the charts and no one would give a shit…

  • Badest most complete album ever made. Not one song you wouldn’t bump in your ride.

  • Eminem is the first and only consistent(flow wise/not counting lyrical content) white rapper untill a ton of white guys get a flow he will always sell huge numbers. It’s like if there was only one white guy doing R&B like Justin Timberlake, he would dominate because he is the only voice that segment of the population relate to. That said since when is music quality about record sales?

Where is Motzart on the charts? does that prove anything? Eminem like most rappers sings to the lowest common denominator his tracks are full of 4 letter words for gays and abuse to women and regardless of how many records he sells he will not ever be half the MC that Black Thought of the Roots is.

Eminem and alot of the gangster/flash rap out there is just homophobic trash talking and chest pounding with no soul, my car is bigger, my chain shines brighter ect. Thats why you hardly hear it on the radio a few months after it’s out yet Hendrix still gets airtime.

Rappers with the real soul of Hip Hop (Arrested Development,Nas,Roots,Kanye-when he’s not being a self absorbed ass,Talib Kweli,Mos Deff,Blu,Murs,MF Doom, many others that get zero attention on the radio because the truth is the industry doesnt want to believe blacks are intelligent, nor does it want to offer in-roads for intelligent music into the industry. People like Alicia Keys and Kanye had to struggle to even get signed because they wernt the usual sex and violence rap/r&b types. Thats the truth.

I bought Recovery under the illusion that he had recovered from drug abuse and actually had something thoughtful to say. Other then Talkin to Myself,No Love, and Not Afraid I felt like I was just hearing the same old mad ramblings of a love sick boy who refuses to grow up and talk about anything but his mother or his relationship with his ex-wife.

How is it this crap gets good reviews in most mainstream publications. He cant sing on any of the tracks he tries too. Seriously compare his vocals or lyrical content for that matter to Drakes Thank Me Later it’s not even a contest he might flow faster but if he’s still talking about gays and hating women it’s hardly a “Recovery”. How can a man rap about his ex-wife for 14years straight and kill her in effigy on every single album and still people arnt over it?

I hope to god some good white rappers put albums out so white kids have a decent role model/influence to listen to other then this crack head who obviously hasnt recovered at all.

Best Hip-Hop album of the year???? sorry not even close go listen to Nas and Damien Marleys Distant relatives or the Roots latest either of those dwarfs this like a NBA player stomping an ant in lyrical content, soul, passion, and style.

Feel free to pump white trash party while you drive down the road with the windows rolled down. I just hope your not headed to a job interview….2 out of 5 stars, skip it.

  • Cool review. Liked that. Eminem is a Legend! He Rocks. Peace!

  • I’d liked to respond to the comment made by xxCraftyxx above me. Your comment is so wrong I felt such a need to actually take time to respond to you. You try to downplay eminem’s skills as a rapper by playing the race card, (if he was black he wouldn’t even be known) I cant think of five rappers who have more lyrical ability than Eminem. Maybe Nas, Canibus.. god I honestly can’t think of five. And dont say Black Thought because Eminem beat him in a freestyle from the 2009 BET Awards. The Roots last album was good Im not gonna deny you that but dont trash this album like its nothing. From what I picked up, you have developed your opinion of Eminem from his singles and what the Media has to say about him. Homophobic trash talking? Four letter words for gays and abuse to women? Get over it. Since he is a huge mainstream figure, he has to make songs that are mainstream, cause controversy, so they sell. He is contractually obliged to do so. Hell, interscope didnt even let him release the MMLP at first because they were disappointed that there was not a hit that would top “My Name is” (This pissed Em off but he eventually got over it and wrote “the real slim shady) Also, thanks for proving to me that you didnt listen to this album more than once. (How can a man rap about his ex-wife for 14years straight and kill her in effigy on every single album and still people arnt over it?) Yea, nice comment. Let me check. Did eminem diss Kim on this last album? nope. Two songs about abusive relationships which have some inspiration from his relationship with Kim but are not directly about Kim. And there is ZERO mention of his mother in this album. He doesn’t talk about gays on this album. “Call me a faggot cause I hate a pussy” and he has an Elton John line. Vocals arent great but its not like it hurts the album. And now my big point. You say this album has poor lyrical content and also no soul, passion, or style? Talkin 2 Myself is almost a diss track to himself. Name another rapper who has dissed himself… oh, you cant? Because no one does that. Going through Changes tells the story of the night he overdosed and almost died. You dont think that song has good lyrical content or passion? He says hes afraid to look his daughter in her eyes because he doesnt want her to be disappointed in him. No soul in this album? How about Youre never Over. A tribute song to his best friend and rapper Proof. I can feel the emotion through both his singing and his rapping on this song. I dont know exactly what you mean by other albums have more style than this, that was stupid and can mean so many different things. The rest of the album that I havent mentioned is Eminem flexing his lyrical ability with a dazzling display of his ability to stack syllables, add polysyllalybic end rhyming, create a twisting internal rhyme scheme, throw in some impressive metaphors, similies, and cadences, while also flowing with unbelievable ease. Yes this is a mainstream album so there is no possible way he can put songs in this album that filled the majority of The Roots and Nas’ last albums simply due to the fact that he is Eminem. But Eminem did a pretty damn good job of appealing to his constantly widening fanbase by including a perfect mix of deep emotional songs, corny joking songs, and some angry, pissed off songs. Also your comment about people not wanting blacks to succeed or something is just so far off from reality its not even funny. I mean 17/40 arists of the top 40 are black artists which is impressive considering theres more white artists making music nowadays.

  • Well reading this comments some people are full of it… when u r going to listen a Eminem album listen to the lyrics and then u can say the album as soul and is worthy to listen. For me Eminem is one of the most sincere rapers i have listen too. Some people care about him being white or not and really that’s stupid screw them at least someone won the respect of a lot of rappers and for that and his songs (duh)he is great. And about his life… you shouldn’t care is his not yours and everyone has its ups and downs so no one is perfect… only cuz his a famous he has to be perfect please people don’t be naive. For me he is GREAT!!!!

  • the only reason y this album isnt as good as his the eminem show (but itsmashes relapse and encore) is becuz Dre only recorded 2 songs (so bad and ridaz) if dre recorded wtp seduction and yure never over this album wuld of been dope but if eminem puts more dre in his next album and less “i dont want to be the best anymore” but replace it with “im fighting my way back up to the top’ but this album also wasnt that popular becuz of justin bieber alll the girlz luv him and they dont care about anything else so like i said more dre and more that urge to become the best from the mmlp his next album shuld be great 8/10 recovery and also get some 50 and maybe some 2pac remizes in there that shuld smash everything

  • EM nailed it with this one. I’m glad cause after has last I thought has run was finally over. But came back and hit another homerun

  • I don’t care about your crappy review. All I can say is that Eminem is back… “Welcome back Eminem.”

  • what the heck man.. this review is like shit.. this album is a pure classic, recovery rock as good as eminem, and hell yeah hi is the best rapper in the world and no asshole can deny it..
    em u rock man..
    all hail

  • yall bogus eminem fans really disgust me!! If you are respecting this guy’s ability why then dont you remember that em is and has been modest about his talent ever since!yall just hear him saying “Relapse sucks!” and Yall go ahead and lash on the album too! ,well i got some news for yall, I aint havin that! my wish is to realy get a msg across! RELPSE WAS eminem’s best since marshal mathers lp!!! why!? oh man we gonna be here 4 the whole day,but let me give a few reasons.first off the title of the record was brilliant, with ambigous meanings of which included relpsing to the old alter ego slim shady, and the obvous, relapsing to the drugs in which ether way the results of both relapsing meanings gives us the same record out come. AND TELL ME YALL,can a person relasping be hard core???? hence it was sooo, i repeat sooo, relavant 4 em to incoperate that accent every body loves to hate. and when you even notice the wit in those punch lines and the lava flow in songs such as 3 am,my mom and stay wide awake you realise the other relapsing meaning i mentioned, which is returning back to his slim shady character! eminem will never praise his work like the self aclaimed best raper alive, yall should know that by now! i think that is part of the reason i respect his talent! Next time, yall should listen b4 yall make such wrong, uninformed reviews. Relapse was for me,you see,I understand that album in and out. if you were doing shakespear in school then you know what I mean!!

  • I clearly have to disagree with every point you made.

Relapse was a brilliant album. Not every song was perfect but what album is 100% perfect?

3AM, Insane, Stay Wide Awake, Same Song & Dance, Old Times Sake and Beautiful were incredible songs. They were also produced by Dr.Dre so therefore you are disregarding the greatest icon amongst the hip hop community. You clearly have not got a clue what you are on about. Now lets compare lyrics and these aren’t even Eminems best lyrics, taken from Same Song & Dance.

“My second victim was even bigger than the first
Pop star, icon, the whole works
She played a little schoolgirl when she first
Burst upon the scene and seen the world was hers
She twirls and turns and flirts and skirts so bad it hurts
It irked me and made me mad at first
I lashed out in my songs
But what was really going on was that I had developed a crush, I just didn’t know how to tell it to her
Should I cut off one of my ears and mail it to her?
Send her pictures of my collections of skeletons or
Footage of me impaling myself on an elephant’s tusk?
We’ll settle this once and for all, ima tell her at dusk
Tonight, tonight its the night, and tell her I must
Creep upto her mansion in stilhettos and just
Climb the gate and ring the bell, like “hello my love”
I just picked your prescription for ceriquill up
Now would you like to share a pill or two with me?
I’ll share my valium with you cos im feeling you britney
I’ll trade you a blue one for a pink one ever since at schoolgirl juvenile delinquent
I’ve been feeling you ooh ooh girl you sexy little girl
You hold that pill any longer it’ll get sentimental value
Come on toots give me the valium, i’ll slamdunk it in your mouth till you puke
And just as soon as you pass out in your alphabet soup”

The word play within that section alone is something no other rapper on this planet could achieve today. Lil Wayne as hard as it sounds is extremely mediocre.

You clearly do not listen in depth to the other songs on his album which cannot be released on mainstream tv because of the stupid restrictions. His flow, delivery, style, metaphorical references, lyrics etc are all something other rappers in the mainstream today just dont possess.

Please do not be blinded by the rubbish you see on TV. Eminems reference is Talking 2 Myself was also a light diss at Wayne and TI. Wayne thought he was the best thing in the game when Eminem was battling drugs and other problems and Eminem is now back to set the record straight. Eminem is not going to battle with Wayne, the result would leave Wayne looking like a 10 year old Soulja Boy.

T.I. constantly referred to himself as King. Well in that case Eminem is God. Eminem is a completely different league to the others out there. The only one who ever came close was Nas who produced stillmatic and illmatic which were both great albums.

This review is completely false. Eminems albums, even while going through tough times, were still better than anything any other rapper put out at the time.

Lil Wayne will always have people supporting him and girls love him because he produces club/dance music. Girls dont want to listen to the real hardcore in depth lyrics of Eminem. Please use your head before making an assessment.

Eminem would tear any other rapper to shreds without even using his hard lyrics.

The best thing i have ever heard wayne sing is Cry Out where he went deep. Everything else is whack. He uses lyrics like.

“Weezy F Baby, Keys to the Cedes’, Hope out the whip and party with the babys, im Crazy, My Shits so Hazy,”

He is terrible in all aspects.

How anyone can say he comes near Eminem is a joke.

Eminem tells stories and things that happen in his life or events that could happen in life. He tells it real and from the heart unlike so many others.

  • you obviously didnt pay any attention to the lyrics of the son, because you have to appreciate the lyrics to appreciate the songs. if you did this than maybe you would have gotten the meaning to them and maybe gotten the meesage that hes better than hes been in years and isnt goin back.

  • Am i the only person on this planet that thinks relapse was a good album? i liked it cause it was like his first album, the slim shady lp, i mean with the song “old times sake” it really resembled him as that rebellious guy he used 2 be, i think that recovery should have been under the category of “pop” instead of “rap & hip-hop”

  • ya i 100% agree with James Barnett a couple comments up

  • Eminem is by far the best rapper of all time. His new album is absolutly insane definetly album of the year, Amazing. Eminem is the man! F all the haters

  • Hey fine on the review. I mean we all have our own opinions but in ‘love the way you lie’ you totally missed the character arc in EM’s verses. Each verse is a segment in the cycle of abuse- the denial, the apology, the promise, the rage and the action. Obviously there are ‘two’ sides to the abuse story, but these lyrics are examining the ‘abuser’ perspective in a way that has never been laid bare in all of music history (to my knowledge). What is more, the ‘character’ is not looking for vindication or empathy. It is an insightful, gritty look at the psychology of spousal abusers. That takes courage. While the mention of grating dischord between Rihanna and Eminem is accurate, I argue that it is intentional. That is precisely the point. It is not pretty, abuse is wicked. Yet, they manage to create an amazing song that is real, a song that is true and a song that speaks from experience. This is the greatest effort. In my opinion.

  • Whoever wrote this review needs to listen a bit closer…the song ’25 to life’ is not about a girl…its about hip hop…that why in the very last verse he says “fuck you hip hop”…so its really about what the industry has done to him…which makes it a pretty deep song.

  • Okay first of all, this is a pretty good review of the album, not great, but this definitely was not a bad review like alot of people on here think. I agree with some of this review not all of it.

I think that Relapse was a great album, but not Em’s best…and I think sometimes Em is too hard on himself because he says stuff like ‘let’s be honest that last relapse cd was ehhh’ etc. But atleast he’s saying what he honestly thinks.(:

and I think that Recovery is his best album!! I used to think The Eminem Show was, but after listening to Recovery 3 or 4 times and really underyanding the meaning and the lyrics of these songs I was just like ‘okay this is just the best’

Cold Wind Blows I think is great, it’s like kind of dark in a way, and it’s a great intro, it’s like really strong Eminem is saying’this is me, this is what I believe, and this is what your gonna hear about on my album’

talkin’ 2 myself, I’m just gonna say Kobe did great on like the chorus he sounded amazing. And I really like that in this song Eminem just like apologizes to alot of people he was gonna diss(which wouldve been wrong IMO) and like he’s saying okay I was wrong, I messed up, now I’m back to the old me, I’m real again.(:

On Fire wasn’t really one of my favorites on the album, I think it’s really good but it’s definitely not my favorite. Some peple just love it though and I can understand why:) I think the chorus is really catchy and like when he says ‘this is a warning to Brooke Hogan and David Cook’ I find it funny.:D

Won’t Back Down is the kind of song that kinda like, gives you confidence, in my opinion. And like, I’m a huge pink fan so I’m glad Em chose to have her on one of his songs! (:

W.T.P. Obviously this song isn’t a serious song and I think it’s really fun! It gave me a good laugh too, the song isn’t laughable, it’s a good song, just the lyrics are funny. I like when Em talks about his kinda lime, white-trash roots, I guess you could say. Hahaa this just sounds like the old Eminem forreal to me! I could imagine this song being on the Slim Shady LP, it sounds just like Em way back then.(:

Going Through Changes, it’s great and it’s a more serious song. It’s like, especially because it comes after WTP, it’s like okay I like to joke around but back to the serious stuff, what the album is really about. And I think it’s very reflective, which I love<3

Not Afraid, great song for the first single off the album Recovery!! It's sooo good! What I found a bit ironic was that in that song he says 'perhaps I ran them accents into the gtound' referring to Relapse, and I think he used the accent just a bit in part of that song!! But I never had any problem with his accents so i enjoyed it. I love when he says 'you helped see me through' and 'you don't even realize what you did, believe me, you' I'm pretty sure he's talking about how his kids helped him get off drugs and become sober and everything. I'm sure alot of other people helped too, but he mentions his kids alot in his songs so that's what came to my mind first.

I disagree about saying Seduction doesn't add mch to the album! It's one of my favorite tracks. it is really sexy, and more importantly, I love that in this song, the girl represents the rap game, and the other guy represents all the other rappers and anyone who thought Eminem would never come back. And I definitely think this shows that Eminem just loves how music so much and he is a wicked good rapper and no one will ever ever take that from him!!! Anyone who thinks this is insignificant, take another listen please. Remember that the girl in the song is the rap game, and the other guy is all the other rappers out there.

No Love was great! I love that he had Lil Wayne on a song and he mentioned Lil Wayne earlier in the album! They both did a great job, although Em is a an all-around better rapper in my opinion.

SpaceBound is amazing. I think he's talking about Kim which is really sweet I think it's beautiful when Em talks about Kim.and it's such an honest song. Then again, the whole album is honest.

Cinderella Man is myfavorite Song on the album!!! Everyone listen to this! It is Eminem at his absolute BEST! this is one of the best songs ever. I'm dead serious, this is an absolutely incredible song. I love 'fuck catching lightning, he struck if, screamed shut up at thunder, and flipped the world upside down and made it rain upward.' what an encouraging song. :D

25 to life I think is also about Kim. It's very beautiful and again it shows the softer side of Eminem. <3

So Bad has such a sick beat!! Forreal! Like omg. Lol it's such a good song it's wicked catchy and stuff. I love Dr. Dre-produced songs there just awesome!

Almost Famous is so catchy I love the hook. And it's like kinda reflective and kinda not reflective all at once. I love it but I don't understand something at the end.'so bare witnesss to some Biblical shit.' what does that mean? I'm lost lol

Love The Way You Lie!! I don't like the Rhianna part much. But Em KILLED it! 'maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcanoe all I know is I love u too much to walk away now' he talks about love that's so sweet. But he also gets backto those violent lyrics that obviously aren't meant to be taken literally 'if she ever tries to fuckin leave again imma tie her to the bed and set the house onfire' :D

You're Never Over makes me cry! It's just so beautiful. Too amazing for words. RIP Proof, your are missed and loved. <3

    (:

  • Ive been a huge eminem fan since 1999 and it pains me to say that Recovery isnt half as good as everyone thinks it is. Dont get me wrong, its a great album, but its nowhere near as good as eminems first 3 albums. I realize eminem is back on form and hes saying some deep personal stuff on recovery but it dosnt feel convincing enough for me, there dosnt seem to be much clarity or believability in his tone, not like on the marshall mathers lp. I use to like it when eminem would write about any topic and write a song about it, example, the idea of writing stan, a story of an obsessed fan is genious, Kim is a song where hes killing his wife and you feel like you have a front seat view of a murder, its all epic and even in its obsurdity, seemed real. Recovery is good but i feel that they got the conceppt for the album wrong, i think its cleche and on the verge of corny to call your album recovery and have songs like cinderella man where men are singing “AMEN”, its a crying shame for a person like myself, a classic eminem fan that initially got into his music coz he did something different by adding humor and balls to his writing. Like i said initially though, i do like recovery, in its own little way, but the reborn clear headed eminem just isnt as fun to listen to as the confused, vicious, drug taking, maniac serial killer that was slim shady and the eminem of old, and best displayed on the marshall mathers lp. I think death and murder lyrics add depth to music, i know it sounds awful but eminem was clever in the beginning because his albums were plagued with 2 polar extremes, he talk about killing someone in teh most graphic and disturbing manner, and follow it with a funny punchline, so youd find yourself shocked in horror one moment, but then laughing your ass off the next, no other artist has moved me that way and i feel that emienms talent for shocking and amusing was his beggest atribute. Hes nowhere near as funny for graphic these days and what are we left with to make up for it?, deep subject matter?, well ive got news for you marshall, youve alwasy provided that, and then some

  • btw I made a mistake, 25 to Life is about hiphop not Kim, I listened again. Omg
I’m so stupid sometimes but I understand now

and I think that when Em didn’t have his life straightened out like he does now, sure he was fun to listen to and he was being honest about where he was in life. But I like this new, like, reborn Eminem because he did the right thing and his music is about that now and it really is inspiring. I’m glad that he changed his ways because it wasn’t safe before, i mean getting of drugs is something he needed to do! (:

  • yep @ijustloveEminem Your right. Its about hiphop, the stupid people that review it don’t understand it.

Well eminem, he’s been through alot of shit. he’s tryna share feelings with his fans because everyones been through some sought of shit, whether it’d be life or relationships. and we’ve all lost atleast one person in our life.. i think this ones for everyone. Anyone thats lost somethin or needs somethin to reflect to, Recovery is the album to listen to.

and @AnthonyL he made alot of funny and humorous songs, his not going to make those songs all the time, Good thing about eminem is he has alot of variety of songs whether it’d be Comedy, Relationships, Stories, Reflection, Not giving up, Staying strong. It’s amazing how much songs he has, ( approx over 280 or so). He doesn’t rap about drugs or weeds or coke. Thats what we all love about him aswell as his awesome talent/hardwork.

This Review is rubbish, Relapse was a good album, not THE BEST but still awesome. Recovery is the best IMO. its really good.

Theres Only 3 rapping legends in this planet, Biggie, Eminem, Tupac. Cant compare them because they all have their own style. but just amazing. He’s song for the past year have all about been motavation. Loving it.

  • alright for the person how wrote this and all the hatters fuck you this was one of his best by far. i would say that this albam is the best albam that has bin put out since TIs paper trail. em is one of the gratest rapers of all time right up there with 2pac and biggy. and he tells you his feels and you say he needs help…… fuck you!!!!! what he did leaving use for 4 years i was made but when i found out the reason y he was gone….. well…. i respect him a lot more. its fuck hard to become clear. it is proble his big acompleshmet.

  • Yeah I also think Em was right in taking a breaking from the funny songs for a while. I mean, this was a serious time in his life, hence a serious album. He probly wasn’t in a joking mood then. So he’s being real. I think in this album he knew he needed to just absolutely kill it, and he did. I hear it in his voice, he gave this 110% but even that’s an understatement :O this album is freaking classic. It means more to me than any of his other albums, and I love them all

  • I got a list heres the order of the list that its in… it goes reggie, JZ, 2pac and biggie, andre from outcast,Jada, corrupt, Nas and then me! from the eminem shows(till I collapse) well heres my list EMINEM.

  • “fuck all that love shit honey, Yea I laugh when I call you a slut it`s funny”

  • Recovery Best Eminem album yet. close second Marshall Mathers LP

  • Eminems first 3 albums, then the odd single ( when i’m gone – no appologies ) Encore? ( few good songs ) Relapse? ( as EM Said himself, first time its good, then after that… it’s kinda like the jokes over, its still got some fucking good tracks, but it’s not the rap we all wanna hear from him ) Then he comes back with Recovery? some Amazing free-style type flows, if he stays on this path… expect him to climb back on top
( Id like to see no cheesy chorus’s… W.T.P is lame )

PS- Tell me how “ON FIRE” is one of the weakest on the album? You fucking crack poT!!!

  • Hi there, i’m form the Netherlands and even though English ain’t my motherlanguage, I think I can faily say that i’t quite good. (Just so you know I do understand the lyrics) I know just about all the albums. Just wanted to say that I think this is the best album ‘Em’s ever made. Especially like “Your never over”. I think it’s a killer song…

I can only hope the next album is even better, emagine what that whould be like…

  • this review is just as bad as marshell himself>>u want real hip hop listin to m.f. doom

  • I disagree with the review.

I have HATED Eminem’s last two albums (prior to recovery) and started to dislike Eminem. I grew tired of his “same old, same old” crap about killing people, raping his wife, his mother, etc. I figured he was washed up and done and was just recycling the same crap CD after CD.

Then “Recovery” came out and it made me an Eminem fan all over again. It’s a different style, but it’s a better style. His “shock the world” style of before is old and played out, by him. This new direction he’s going in, which is a lot more mature and gritty and hard, is a definite plus.

I couldn’t DISAGREE more with the reviewer claiming that he talks like he’s different but he’s not walking it. That’s bull. This cd is a masterpiece, in my opinion, and is the best CD of 2010. I would even go as far as saying this is his best cd EVER.

  • the real shady tells the real stories and f*ck all the haters, em is so good even b4 recovery.

  • It’s damnear perfect. Hell, it is perfect. Hear it once and it sticks you like a hundred times; hear it a hundred times and it’s fresh dagger number one. Em spins beautiful havoc like that hurricane, tornado he riffs about inside. Somebody out there? I need a witness to this!

  • This review is whack, like seriously. And Em says his last CD is in the trash not on the track.

  • from were i see it i actually love the recovery and I hope that M makes another album

  • i read the first pagagraph of this page! do you know how much shit you talk this is his best album of all time! and i cant wait to see how he can better his next one! delete you page and do every1 a favour!

  • as i said!!!

  • this is the best album ever…words are the realest

  • Best album ever the words in every song means so damn much…give her those damn divorce papers

  • Amazing CD!! It is def the best one yet!! A CLASSIC for real!!

  • This album reall showed dat Em recover from his pass mistake but i love Old Shady coz there lot of drama in hiz song… da truth is , widout da drama in his song, it will be boring [sory to say dat]n plss to Eminem haters ,i fuckin hope dat couldn’t find ure breath wen u talkin shiet to Em! i know yall got stressed wen there white ppl in black music.n if Em make mistake in past dat a different day, we’re facin tommoro from now on… Gee, evrone make mistake even u :P . PS, i love all song <333

  • I’m gonna say the same thing I said to the dude from Chicago Tribune…

Did Eminem do something or say something that hurt your feelings? Maybe your friends with the dude who’s girlfriend wants him. That is literally the only thing that it can be. This CD was the best one every. First CD where I can actually go through the whole CD without skipping one song. He’s on a whole new level now, and your down low somewhere that has no idea what Rap is. Did you even listen to the cd, or just read the lyrics on the cd and take some quotes? GET REAL. He raps what’s going on in his life, like pretty much every rapper out there. Eminem just stepped his game up more then anyone I know. That’s just my opion.

  • This album’s any single song take down all other albums of 2010 easily!!!!

  • What’s wrong with you guys?

THE REVIEWER said it was “Eminem’s most complete album to date” and you’re saying that you disagree, because you liked the album?

You guys should read first before commenting. Sheesh.

  • Yo dude. This is the sickest album of the year. Not one single song is bad. It’s jam packed with a unique amazing song. Get your head checked fooo

  • You F!@#$% up, the track with pink was produced by Travis Barker not Dj Khalid dumb a$$

  • Is it me or is Eminem kinda caught in the middle on this album between his instrumentals (which are pretty varied and brilliant) and his reoccuring ascrebic lyrics? It seems as if he’s reinvented himself by going through the hip hop world and find lots of new instrumental styles to use, which is cool, but he hasn’t changed the content of his lyrics to fit the music.

Its as if everyone heard the instrumentals and the hooks, raved that it was fantastic, and didn’t really concentrate on the lyrics.

  • I absolutely love this new album. I dont care what anyone says Eminem is finally back and we are so grateful he is.

  • Recovery is a record of crashing back to reality. I think that after the Eminem show…Marshal got really frustrated with the music industry and decided to rebel against what conventional hip/hop is. He was the GREATEST…but he clearly didn’t see himself as unique or special because he went OUT THERE…I mean WAAAY out of his comfort zone for what a flow should be on Encore. There were spurts of Magic on encore that were clearly leftovers from the EM show. Re-up was a lazy way out of a real record because Em was on too many drugs. Relapse sucked worse than Encore did. Recovery has the craziest flows but along with Relapse some of the worst lyrics as far as what he’s actually talking about. He’s a poet like no other, but his material is dated and his next album needs to tackle some tangible real issues.

  • Look at all the people rushing to defend a man that doesn’t need them, who doesn’t care about them, who gives them nothing. And how do they defend Eminem? DIS A BAD REVIEW, YOU A HATER, EM DA BEST, GO BUY FIVE OF DIS ALBUM, but with even more atrocious spelling. What is this mentality? America make you retarded?

Em’s first album had a terrible message, but the best flow. He’s not the greatest rapper, but how do you decide who the best is? Record sales? How fanatic and single minded the fanbase is? He’s a damn good rapper, that’s for sure, but he was better. His youthful confidence, it showed in his music. Not anymore.

Get off Em’s dick. If he needed a ride, he’d snap his fingers.

  • i think recovery is a bitch album and i think em has gone soft, wtf happened to ammetyville or superman? em was the shit bak in the day. the big feud between slim and icp when he kept shit real, wtf happened? now he’s singin bout how he is in love and hes off drugs and he says he’ll never let his fans down agn, well to fukin late shady, a real dissapointment…..

  • ‘Critics man. You know the one thing I noticed about critics man – critics never ask me how my day was…you wanna criticise dog try a little more. I’m so tired of this I could blow, fire in the hole.’

Looks like Marshall pre-empted your strike, didn’t he?

  • i wana punch the ediot who did this review :S recovery is a brilliant album and it show’s eminems back, he explains EVERYTHING in the album but your just to old and strupid to understand even my mum likes it, u need to get a new job if i ever find who you are i will STAB you for being an ediot :)

  • Honestly, this album like most of the new shit…SUCK shitty balls, I like the old albums from 1999-2002 all the songs were pretty good, now he has turned into a industry Twatflap!!!

  • Forget the money and release good album’s, Asshole.

  • honestly i reallyyyy love eminem and his music but i think all you fans out there need to listen to his music and leave him alone!thats all he keeps saying in his songs and you guys are suppossed to be his fans so why dont you take one of his albums, put it in your cd player listen to the words he is saying and not just the beat, and then see if you really want to keep posting about him and his life. . . stop worrying about him an kim and hailey’s life and just worry about yours. and to all you haters posting bad reviews and comments, why dont you get a life because if you really didnt like eminem you wouldnt be searching his name,or on this site right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • better than MMLP? whoever said that deserved to burn in hell. MMLP one of the hardest albums ever. drugs can make anyone come up with some unique rhymes but em still got it just not and unique anymore. thats my opinion so suck it everyone

  • This album is a return to what made Eminem the best freestyle rapper on the planet. He can wipe the floor with any MC and they all know it, they are just afraid to admit it. Eminem can’t say the “N” word because he isn’t the right color, and he for that fact will never get the crown he deserves. Which is the “KING OF RAP”

  • the guy who wrote this review is a complete tool. have you not been listening to the other rap/hip-hop albums coming out recently. this kind of music was dying out from a bunch of posers who talk like they’ve been through shit and this album just gave those guys a shot of red bull and a swift kick in the ass! keep the hits comin slim!

  • Why does everyone think 25 to Life is about his ex-wife Kim? This is just an opinion. It’s a good album whatever this guy says.

  • The reviewer proves one thing. Anyone can buy a domain name for ten bucks, install some free blog software, write retarded crap, and then call themselves a reviewer.

He has nothing at all interesting to say. Just listen to this great cd and dont waste more time on this site.

  • Gone Mainstream like all rap today, fucking shit.

It’s sad too see how every artist only cares about money nowdays…
Only 1 OK song in the whole album, and it’s not even very good.
It’s still fucking 100 million times better than lil wayne, akon and all this shit.

  • (Gone Mainstream like all rap today, fucking shit.

What are you talking about this is the greatest album ever, every song is awesome, but i do still agree with you about it being better than lil wayne and stuff.

  • Its All Mainstream And I Dont See This As The Real Eminem. Everyone Will Rant On Now About This Post But I Hate This Album. It Dosen’t Compare At All To Till I Colapse, Stan, The Real Slim Shady, The Things I WILL Remeber Eminem For

  • realisticly wicked!!!!

  • f this … everyone disagree, this is a very good album, stop make bad critic and look at something else than he’s accent, he’s flow … u expect to be the same like 15 years ago? this review is patetic, start listen lirycs to and try to understand them …but probably those who did this review were drunk or a lil’ bit retarded. If the album is so bad why all the songs have so many views and ‘like’s’ on youtube? you would write anything for some cash … this is the best comercial album from america this year so shut up…

  • The singles to date represent the best of whats on offer here. The rest of the album itself is not as memorable-even the tracks with Pink and Lil’ Wayne dont really stand up to the two singles ‘Not Afraid’, and ‘Love The Way You Lie’. The most memorable track aside from those two is unfortunately the one with the most sampling, eg ozzys “Changes” is on here – its being barely distinguishable from the original, aside from merely rapping over the top of ozzys original chorus (which almost doesnt work in itself, ozzy sings so slow compared to the rap-with a start>stop feel, there are speed issues), although fans of both eminem and ozzy fans may well still enjoy it. Its not the best Eminem album, but he can do better – and is still to top The Marshall Mathers LP from 2000 as his best ever release with its true old skool/hip-hop feel. Id give this album a solid 3 out of 5, its “good”, worthy of a listen or two, but just dont expect anything else as good as the current singles (unless youre an ozzy fan, lol) ;)

  • Well, since I’m the real EMINEM it’s like that and thanks for the video cause it was hard to find the site! So, since the record rocks I just that when Marshall says ‘raise the bar’ he should say ‘ “raise the brizzle’ ” cause brizzle means bar and it’s west coast till I die

  • I don’t like wrap. I don’t like Eminem, but this album is the best album I’ve ever listened to.

  • I picked up this album after I downloading Not Afraid and really liking it. I’m a father of two, a professional. I like all kind of music, from classical to heavy. I must say that, despite my wife’s willingness to only play track 15 over and over again, I’ve loved every part of this album. It is melodic, well crafted, inspirational, jumpin- hard to sit in yer seat while driving, and above all a new sound that i cannot get tired of. I love it. Now for the reviewer. Yes, he has some point that stick, but for the most part, his negativism is unwarranted.

  • This is Em at his best, everything about this album is mint. Each song represents in it’s own way, there is no song that fails to impress me. I haven’t listened to Eminem in years. Fuck the pills yo, Get addicted to this CD!! AND he’s got a more mature sex appeal, I’d let him slap me.

  • Yeah.. Ya Know?.. Critics Man
Critics Never Got Nothin Nice To Say man
You know the one thing I notice about critics man?
Is.. critics never ask me how my day went
    Well imma tell em

    [Verse 1]
Yesterday my dog died, I hog tied a hoe, tied her in a bow
Said next time you blow up try to spit a flow.
You wanna criticize dog try a little mo.

  • Ok I have read a lot of these comments and I know what I say won’t matter . I will first however address the real hip hop comments. I am going to be honest most Eminem fans are fans of Eminem and not hip hop , and because he is the only hip hop artist they have heard and liked they are quick to say he is better than everyone else in hip hop. I don’t believe if you have heard one common song or one Nas song and you think it isn’t as good as Eminem’s stuff that that means its true. I am not saying he isn’t a hot MC , he is . Is he the best that ever was and will be no , but that can be said of any artist someone will always come around who will be bigger and better . The world of music is always evolving always changing , and people’s tastes change . I think with this album he has evolved as an artist the lyrics are the same , but the music is a step away from anything I have heard from him before which is good. Now the review it really isn’t bad , he is doing what a critic is supposed to do weighing the good and the bad of the item . No ones work is going to be perfect , and well Eminem’s new album isn’t perfect. Its good but it isn’t perfect. The review addresses things that he needs to work on and things that he did well . In the end it comes to the conclusion that this is the best work from Eminem in years ,and it is . As for the 25 to life it is easy to confuse his ballad to hip hop as a ballad to his ex wife cause it sounds alot like it until he actually says in the song “Fuck you, hip-hop
    I’m leavin’ you
My life sentence is served, bitch
    And it’s just.. ”
at almost the very end of the song .
with lyrics like “I don’t think she understands
    The sacrifices that I’ve made
Maybe if this bitch had acted right,
I would have stayed ” It is easy to get confused . just sayin.

  • ive been an Eminem fan since he came out with “Slim Shady Lp” back in 1999,and i have to say “Recovery” is his best work to date…Recovery,MMLP,TES,SSLP,Relapse,Encore………and if you think “MMLP” is the best its not,you just think that way cause its 10 years old and it brings back great memories..in 10 years time people will be the same about Recovery!

  • This is a terrible review. Thanks for all the info on the track “So Bad”. It was insightful I could close my eyes and hear it!

  • classic album guys its pretty strong but classic you know what classic means it means
blueprint college dropout stankonia marshall mathers those are some from 2000-2009 its good but classic hell no

  • srry for dubble post its not the best album of the year neither not even the best hiphop album big boi sir lusicous left foot jannelle monae arcandroid and I can go on
this is why I can´t stand eminem not because of him but because of his fans he´s not the king of rap that doesn´t even exist I mean a lot of great rappers have something that makes them awesome and white people who only listen to him and no other hiphop should really stop saying he´s the king or start listening to some other hiphop

  • oh and its not the best album of the year not even the best hiphop album and he´s not the king of rap he´s at the topfor sure but there are more people who can get that title

  • This album made me listen to rap again. Hands down the best lyrics on a rap album ever and the best rap album since “Life after Death”. If you were to count the words on his tracks, I’m betting there are more than the last 3 number 1 rap albums combined.

  • Culture Bully… FIND A NEW PERSON TO REVIEW CD’s.. THIS GUY IS GARBAGE… BIGGEST SELLING ALBUM IN YEARS … NICE CALL CHRIS… NO OFFENSE HOMIE BUT YOU DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT HIP HOP! TARD! NO FLOW? HARD TO FIND? HOPE THEY DON’T PAY YOU FOR THAT SHIT YOU CALL OR A REVIEW..

  • this album is sick enyone who thinks is shitt….dam u shud relly take the time to fukin listeb to it cus its fukin great!!! 25 to life-fave song

  • There is a virus script installed on your site. You might want to do something about that…

  • 2.5 million copies sold in the USA alone! thats all i gotta say

  • em keeps topping himself it gets better and better. it’s insane where he takes it! fuckin insane!

  • this is the album of the year, like it or not, he has shown whats the guy capble of

  • I’ve been listening to rap music for over twenty years – so, I like to think of myself as a rap connoisseur. With that being said, I’ve got to say that EMINEM is in the top three of the best rappers ever. In my opinion, the order would be 1) 2PAC, 2)EMINEM, and 3) JayZ. EMINEM’s creeping up to that #1 spot.

EMINEM’s Recovery Album is unbelievable!! I’ve been listening to it at home, work, and during physical training. As a black guy, I’ve got to say this dude is killing black rappers. He is extremely intelligent/talented and blessed when it comes to rapping.

EMINEM keep slaughtering these cats who get by with their stupid lyrics (Ex. Pretty boy swag)

You’re right, PROOF would be proud of you. Do ya thang!!!

  • I found this album extremely disappointing just like his last 3. For me, Em’s prime has already come and gone. Nothing he ever does again will live up to the Slim Shady or Marhsall Mathers LPs. The cynical, dopehead, white trash savior is now trying to clean his act up and become a productive member of society? No, it doesn’t work and it will never work. Just give it up Em. Sit back, produce half-assed acts like 50 Cent and Akon and count your money. You’re done.

  • Just got it it’s awesome thanks

  • Man I think this Whole album is great. It takes me back to the days of his underground shit, and his first two albums. I felt that he went kinda mainstream with all his subsequent releases, but this, THIS, is Eminem. He even raps about how his last few albums have been, and I quote, “eehhh.” I personally don’t care for maybe one or two tracks, but I’m sure that given time, and after hearing them a few times, I’ll come around. But otherwise this album gets 5/5 from me, so buy it, download it or whatever you do to get your music. You won’t be sorry.

  • I was a pretty strong Eminem fan, buying his first 3 cd’s. He began to fade from there for me, though I still respected his skills. When I heard Relapse, other than the Drake track, I thought Eminem was done, the cd was crap.

But, Recovery shut me up BIG TIME. This cd is tied with the Marshall Mathers cd as his best. The featured review is innacurate, you could tell the writer doesn’t even understand half the songs.

  • EMINEM NO ESCUCHES A EL GRUPO DE TONTOS QUE ABLAN EN CONTRA TUYA YO ESTOY CONTIGO
SIGE ADELANTE NO TE DETENGAS SUS MAS GRANDES SALUDOS Y BUENOS DESEOS TU MAYOR FAN
QUE TE DESEA LO MEJOR JOSUE PARDO AQUI ESTA MI MSN GAMO_HIP-HOP_15@HOTMAIL.COM
    TE QUIERO SLIM

  • It’s the deepest album he has, which means its his best album. He is generally easy to relate to, and the lyrics are inviting. He spits better than anybody and actually has a song..most rap these days is just about stupid shit; money, cars, and ho’s..the average person can’t relate to that..but we can relate to relationship problems or drug problems, and things of that nature. Anyway, its a classic album and prolly one of the best ever made, period.

  • I dont agree with this reviewer at all, this guys probably just saying a whole lot of bullshit so people dont by Eminems Recovery album. This is by far the best album i’ve heard in a long time, just like he said, “lets be honest the last relapse CD was eh, AND he said fuck my last CD this shits in my TRASH ill be goddamned if another rapper gets in my ass. I think he’s not the same old slim shady, is blasphomy by calling him that, if you’d actually listen to the lysrics you’d understand buddy. I also think he’s not talking to all the listeners but to a specific group made in 1773 he says hes out and had enough thats why all of those songs are in that specific order in my opinion. By the way LISTEN TO THE BONUS 17TH TRACK AND GIMME A PROPER REVIEW BUDDY!

  • Nastay i just read your paragraph above mine. please marry me xD

  • I ddnt like the negative out put on Eminem but I love his album. I’ve been a huge fan of Eminem since I was a little kid. I wish him good luck and hope he keeps producing albums!

  • I hated his last two cd’s and was very skeptical about this CD.

If you didn’t like it I know it’s just opinion but the production quality is there. To be honest any real music fan can see that. The heart is there, the beats are there, it isn’t ES, it isn’t MM LP, it’s Recovery. It isn’t as good as those cd’s but it’s still very good none the less.

    Another classic imo.

  • This album is brilliant full stop. his lyrics are as good as ever & his metaphores are crazy!!!! “you’re luyn thru your TEETH so fuck your FILLINGS instead of getting CROWND your getting CAPPED” enough said without goin on & on & on as i could do as this album is full of them! My personnel faverite songs are No Love Slims verse is one of the best ive heard EVER! Cindirella Mans lyrics and beat are mind blowing if any1 can find a song were the artist rimes the word “UPWARD” let me know coz ive never heard any1 use it!!!! Finally Almost famous, wot more else can i say? A man that can use the longest word in the dicionary n put it in a rime with out lookin or soundin out of place is a pure GENIUS!!!! Also got to give You’re Never Over a comment to! The part were he says hes gonna go mike tyson on these bastard….QAULITY! i cant stress enough how much i respect eminem for his music & a person!

  • In order to understand a lyricist such as Eminem, it takes a true fan and I admire your analysis of his recent album. It IS very accurate, no matter how much a diehard fan may disagree (and trust me, I listen to Shady’s work alot). But in comparison to his previous CDs, you can’t help but be inspired by the new direction he is taking in his music. His emotional tracks (Talkin’ 2 Myself, Going Thru Changes, Not Afraid, No Love, Love The Way You Lie, You’re Never Over) definetily shine on the playlist, but you can’t forget that the remaining tracks either encompass his capacity for hard punchlines or his terrific sense of humor which everyone seems to either love greatly or hate with a passion. In my opinion, which I WOULD consider somewhat professional, this album (as far as material goes) matches The Eminem Show, his greatest and highest selling album. • ok ems new cd was the shit. i have a ipod 120g and it is more then half way full with like 3500 songs. and over that last 3 mouths the only song i have bine lisening to are from his new cd.he is the best rapper alive with out even having to think about it. he tells it how it is and he does not care what the fuck other poeple think. he does not talk about moeny cars and bitches. any body can do that. my fav songs on his on his new cd are talking to my self your never over and 25 to life. that cd will with out a dout get best cd of the year. and that will be a cd to put upon my cd rack right next to the carter three, after death (biggy), and paper trail. and the Lp. may be i am just a stan but i am just waiting for his next cd to come out.

  • i love Eminem to bits but tbh i dont think this album has any massive hits, some of them are pretty good but dont compare to some of the shit he used to do.

but jeeez some people are on about it being garbage, its not that bad! its not a classic but it certainly doesnt deserve to be called trash.

and tbh, everyone who has ever been part of a genre will gradually become more and more of a pop artist because thats just the way it goes, everyone goes mainstream because everyone gets taken over by fame and money and the best way of getting money is hitting most of the population which is through pop music and getting on the prime time radio stations.

but i will always love Eminem… hes the greatest artist ever, even if his recent stuff isnt as good as some of the stuff he has done :)

  • one more thing i think is awesome :
how in almost famous he manages to get in the word antidisestablishmentarianism… unreaal boss just absolutely the best rapper to walk this earth!

  • Eminem is amazing, he is definitely the best

  • this guys is a HATER. the entire CD was amazing. deff one of the best albums of the year hands down, i strongly disagree with this review, i think shady got his flow back and has really gotten back to his talent from the eminem show.

  • Lol almost everyone disagrees with this review. The reviewer didn’t keep an open mind. He/she focused on the lyrics and sound but not the meaning in the album.

  • Infinite-4/5
    SSLP-4.5/5
    MMLP-5/5
    ES-4/5
    Encore-2.5/5
    Relapse-3/5
    Recovery-3.5/5

    Yes.

  • So I’ve been reading reviews of this album for a while now and I have to post. Let me first say: my little brother introduced me to Em with TMMLP and when I first heard it, I was uncomfortable. So I listened again. And again. And then I got it – it’s like watching a movie full of violence, grief, confusion and trauma. Or maybe a documentary, since his lyrics were so raw/personal. It was uncomfortable not only because of the literal lyrical content, but because it was so vulnerably, brilliantly … ugly. Compelling. Mesmerizing. Disturbing. Brilliant.

TES was freaking amazing. I am not a Stan. I am now a 36 year-old, happily married woman with a pretty good career and a nice life. Probably not the target audience that the record company imagines when they release something by Eminem, is what I’m getting at. But art is art, and really good art is honest, takes liberties, looks at itself, makes a joke of itself, and sometimes beats your metaphorical ass.

I bought Relapse, listened, and was not compelled except to wonder whether Em thought this was good, or was simply fulfilling a contractual obligation to release another album. I didn’t even look up reviews for it because I just didn’t care.

But this. Recovery. It’s fucking ART. He is brilliant in the way that makes me forget to breathe because I’m listening so hard. I don’t claim to be a hip-hop expert at all – in fact that is my point: even someone who’s not extremely versed in this genre can recognize meaningful art when she hears it. The truth is that MM, SS, or whatever you want to call him – is a fucking badass. This is one more album that makes that very, very clear.

  • Eminem is the best rapper this is his best album

  • No Love…..man what a song, Not Afraid…..get yo blood pumpin cuz of all the inspiration, WTP……..banger like no other, 25 to LIFE…….id love that for life, Talkin to ma Self……..brilliance I love the guitar, Seduction……what a flow beat that, Cinderella Man……could make the whole stadium rock with that badass beat and beyond brilliant composition, So Bad……….confidence in every bar and he shows that he knows he’s the best. OVERALL…………DAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • W.T.F!, do u know what i think? your brain is just too small to understand what shady was talking about,go to hell with yo f**king review.

  • TERRIBLE review. Bad insight and clearly rushed to meet your deadline. You don’t even seem to understand most of the songs’ meanings at all.

  • recovery is by far the best album em has made yet. and to the haters like he said “fuck your feelings.” em is back and no one can touch his lyrics. i have grown up listining to eminem and i can relate to a lot of the shit. i do think he lost his touch for a while but he is back now. everyone loses touch every now and then but atleast he has the nerve to say it. most other rappers would be to scared to spit half the shit he does. em is real and one of the best along with biggie and 2pac.

  • damn right you are eminems the best rapper in the world and everyone else knows it to theyre just jelus and have dicks up their asses amen brother GO EMINEM

  • GARBAGE!!! GARBAGE!! i’m soooo disapointed with EM

  • terrible album…. the first two albums he made fun of himself, which i like the most of him, this new album is too serious for slim……

  • I really can’t understand why so many keep saying this is his best album yet? Well it has its moments, but is it really better than SS LP, MM LP and TES? No Way! His earlier CDs is the reason why we all fell in love with his music.

But of course; everyone is entitled to their opinion.

  • OMG, do you see whats transpiring in Syria? Regardless of a brutal government crackdown, the demonstrations continue

  • Not the best review. Shows that you havn’t actually listened to the lyrics. 25 to Life is NOT about relationships. Its about the rap game, and im really sick of people making this mistake, because its SOOO obvious. He even said it at the end! Pay homage to the lyrical mastermind that is eminem. Overall great album.

  • ….2 years later and this review still has it wrong.
