Fashawn “Boy Meets World” album update

Fashawn’s new album Boy Meets World dropped today; needless to say, the internet has been flooded with material pertaining to the record lately. First off we have a the track “Samsonite Man” which features California native Blu; notice the beat on this track, Exile is a beast on the boards, and he produced the entirety of Boy Meets World. “Samsonite Man” is one of the finest tracks I’ve had the pleasure of hearing this year. In lieu of Fashawn’s 21st birthday—yes he’s only 21, and his birthday was yesterday—Fresno Beehive has put together a compilation mixtape that features tracks from Fash’s first seven mixtapes. I’ve given it a listen and it’s definitely worth the free download; those of you that haven’t heard Fashawn need to get acquainted with his music. [again, via 2 Dope Boyz]

We also have a video of Exile talking about the Boy Meets World album. As I mentioned before, he produced the entire album, and his production style is nuts. Anyone who has heard the Blu & Exile album Below The Heavens knows exactly what I mean. In the video he talks about why he wanted to produce Fashawn’s album in full, and he also talks about why he likes to work with artists on full length albums. Judging by “Samsonite Man” dude is borderline boring. Sounds like a thousand indie rappers.
Would you know talent if it tripped over your foot Jon Jon?
Yeah Jon – what do you know about music?!
you can be really talented and really boring at the same time. for example, “a thousand indie rappers.” jonjon is right on that one.
i like the song though; it’s pretty.
and maybe this should be a longer post, but it’s hard to get excited about this kind of indie rap stuff these days. i mean, it’s great music, but we’ve heard it before. does that make it bad? of course not. maybe my standards are unrealistically high, and i should just appreciate a nice song when i hear it.
but i guess i’m just differentiating between songs i like and songs that make me truly excited for a new artist, or songs that blow me away, or songs that do something new. with this one, i like it, but i’m not going to sprint out the door to buy it.
Maybe I should have added another mp3. or two?
nah, but probably THREE more would’ve done it Timmy! haha
i know i’m the outsider here, and i’ll probably let lambasted for this, but i can’t remember the last time that i heard a “hip-hop” in general song that wasn’t a retread of a thousand ideas i’ve already heard before. isn’t lyrical talent enough to earn some praise? and if isn’t fresh enough, what in hip-hop is?…
*please treat me as being as clueless as i seem. i truly am a fish out of water, looking for insight about what’s worthy of carrying the hip-hop torch in the new decade.
That’s basically the ideology that I was going for Ryan. Fashawn has a lot of talent on the microphone; sure, he’s not Nas, but he does possess great skill for someone who’s only 21.
yo Alteez Fashawn is motherfuckin boring. ha what would I know? haha
ps. I wanted to like dude, his track simply gets no “rewind status”, dude it’s not your song it’s Fashawns’ don’t take shit personal son.
If I may ask Jon Jon, who does get rewind status as far as emcees are concerned?
MC motherfucking Hawking!
OK, tried to post a photo there but it didn’t work…
