Gnarls Barkley: New Single “Run”

Before everyone starts flipping out and getting violent & bitter because the new Gnarls Barkley single is being played on every station, across every possible medium I thought that it would be nice to share it here, on the internet, as god intended. The only starting point that I’ve read in regards to what the song sounds like seems to be aimed at the duo’s infectious “Crazy,” and how “Run” sounds nothing like it…but that’s a bit unfair…don’t you think? Such teasing is akin to asking Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch to put out another “Good Vibrations,” like asking Chumbawumba to put out another “Tubthumping,” like asking Clay Aikin to put out another…well, I’m sure he wrote something good too. The big difference between Gnarls Barkley and the aforementioned schlubs is that I honestly love Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo, I love “Run” and really love the idea of hearing an entire album of new material!

I was just listening to the Gray Album last week (revisiting it years later…) thinking “Damn, Danger Mouse is badass.”

  • Chris DeLine says:

Yes he is, I did the same thing maybe a month back or so. It was when the first wave of American Gangster mashup albums started coming out and all I could do was think “The Grey Album” was so much better…and it is, better than any mashup I’ve heard before or since. And sadly, as much as my friends who produce bootlegs might find distaste in my opinion, I think its the best we’ll ever hear from the genre.

lovin this new joint…. and the grey album us the best mash up album i’ve heard thus far…

I like it the new song!!! But I agree w/ Listen Up: Arcade Games. I probably won’t like it after the 435th time.

  • Chris DeLine says:

I don’t know…I still enjoy “Crazy”…something about this duo that doesn’t age with me. (just for reference, that’s a feed-”borrowing” site…the original post was here: http://www.bestweekever.tv/2008/01/29/listen-up-arcade-games/)

yo’that Grey Album was dope. However this track “Run” will have to grow on me.

  • Chris DeLine says:

I can’t say a bad thing about this song, it’s completely opposite of what I would have expected in terms of new Gnarls Barkley material…which by now we should know to come to expect the unexpected, right? I was just wondering…think they’ll continue the ongoing on stage costume thing?

  • jonjon says:

haha, their costume is part of the song. Their art direction is bananas, a friend toured with Gnarls and spoke about the great detail in which the crew followed. Anyhoo should be a great record, Dangermouse also just produced the new Martina Topley-Bird….yaaaaaaaaah

  • AtomicWar Baby says:

Gnarls Barkley’s performance at that Music Awards show, where they wore the Star Wars STORMTROOPERS outfits?
That’s just about the coolest thing I have seen in my 60 years of life on this small “PEBBLE IN THE SKY”, which to sci fi newbies, is one of author Isaac Asimov’s first novels, written back in the 50’s, but still just as cool today.

Like Asimov, the writer, Gnarls Barkley is an original, his band rocks, & he’ll never go “out of style”. Even when his hair turns gray!

Can’t wait to see his new Music Video, thank the Space Lords I have a big screen TV to watch it on!
