Grimey’s Announces Nashville Record Store Day Festivities

Already this week we have found out about the downright nasty releases that Third Man Records will be offering up come Record Store Day, and now Grimey’s co-owner Doyle Davis has offered up some information about what Nashville fans can expect at the shop come April 16. Opening up at 10:00, there will be a sidewalk sale out back featuring all of their RSD releases. “Over 300 limited edition titles will be released,” notes Doyle in his newsletter. “We’ve ordered them all but we don’t know how much we’ll get.” To combat the mystery of what’s going to be available, Grimey’s will be offering up a few sure-bets along the way including a “big-ass free concert festival” which is scheduled to feature Jason Isbell, the Gabe Dixon Band, Hunx & His Punx, the Mattoid, the Carnivores, Deadstring Brothers, Ben Hall, April Smith & the Great Picture Show and the Great Book of John.

Additionally, The Basement will be screening music-related films all day, including Better than Something: Jay Reatard (“An exciting and intimate portrait of Memphis-based punk musician Jay Reatard”), Heavy Metal Picnic (The film focuses on the 1985 Full Moon Jamboree, a weekend field party bacchanal that took place at ‘The Farm’”) and Broke (“Following on-the-verge artist Will Gray through the recording and release of his debut album”). To top everything off, Doyle concludes his message with a final exciting announcement: “Matt & Kim will be dropping by around 4PM to hang out with us and you and they’ll be signing copies of their 7″ single released for Record Store Day.” Bemoan the rapid bloating of the event all you want: it’s still shaping up to be a helluva day.
