“I’m Confused,” the lead single from the Handsome Furs upcoming sophomore album Face Control, might leave fans of the band a bit confused after their first listen. Like the majority of Face Control, the sound is a complete 180 degree turn from the dense and claustrophobic sounds of their debut album Plague Park. “I’m Confused” is a searing song, that after starting with a droning keyboard, is propelled by Boeckner’s boisterous guitar playing and a pulsing drum machine beat. Like all the songs he writes, Boeckner’s lyrics are dark and his voice is an unbridled howl, to the point where you can close your eyes and see him in the studio, screaming into the mic, veins protruding from his neck. The whole album follows along with “I’m Confused,” meaning that it’s as wild eyed and frantic as Plague Park was paranoid and restrained. I can’t say enough about how great this song and record both are and I can’t wait to see them again at The Entry on March 26th. Face Control hits the streets March 10th.
