The largely electronic band’s music automatically conjures up memories of the Postal Service, though they mix in enough acoustic folk to ward off further comparisons to that much-adored group.

Hercules and Love Affair to Play The Loft – New Years

Submitted by Chris DeLine on December 2, 2008 – 1:55 pm13 Comments

Today it was announced that Vita.mn would be producing a New Year’s Eve party at The Loft above Barfly. What’s so special about The Spirit of ‘09-branded party, you ask? Here’s a taste of the lineup:

DJ sets from New York City’s disco revolutionary and gay icon Hercules and Love Affair, Atlanta-bred wunderkind DJ and producer Le Castlevania and the legendary hip-hop remixer DJ Klever. The Spirit of ’09 will be hosted by the notorious local DJs The Moon Goons and will also feature a live performance from Minneapolis’s own Solid Gold.

    wow..this will be sweet.

  • solace says:

but not $45 with no open bar sweet…

  • Josh says:

    $45!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • solace says:

    yeah…

or you can go the VIP route for $80 which gets you FOUR whole drink tickets and access to an “exclusive party area”, which if you’ve been to Barfly ever before, is pretty humorous

ah well, i rarely like going out on NYE for shows anyway

  • cursedandblessed says:

It’s $30 sweet. Who buys door tickets on NYE anyways?

  • Chris DeLine says:

$30/$45 for Hercules & Love Affair on New Years Eve isn’t horrible… Crystal Castles is playing New Years in NYC for $45 as well… considering that, this seems like a bargain.

Plus, the dry-humping alone has got to be worth hundreds! That, my friends, is value.

  • solace says:

    lol.

i dunno, i like maybe 2 or 3 songs on that H&LA record i guess

i do love Solid Gold though.

personally if i go anywhere on NYE it’ll probably be the Triple Rock or Turf Club

  • solace says:

and Chris, true, but going out on NYE in NYC, LA, Chicago, etc. is usually a $100+ affair, so you’re right, by that token it is a bargain, even that NYC show is :)

  • Josh says:

Yeah, I did not suspect $45 (even on NYE) and I misread and thought it would be Solid Gold and a non dj set from H&LA. Chris does make a valid point about the dry humping….drunken dry humping by people who are out for the first time all year is priceless.

  • cursedandblessed says:

Speaking of Le Castle Vania… and speaking of Smashing Pumpkins… his remix of “Zero” is what made me in love with him.

    You can listen here.

  • cursedandblessed says:

P.S. Everyone’s getting fed now as part of their $30 ticket. Food. All night.

    Maybe that helps…?

  • Jeff says:

    definitely helps

sponsors aren’t so bad after all!

  • Jon Behm says:

Barfly + NYE + Disco music = LAAAAME
