I like this band alot. Their songs are catchy and the lyrics are intelligent and sentimental. I don't know if they "break new ground" but that's just a bullshit phrase anyway. I find their sound refreshingly unique. I don't know how blogging can harm a band. Bands shouldn't let what a bunch of people with no lives say about them on blogs get to them anyway.

There are tons of great bands from Long Beach, which is where the Cold War Kids reside these days. Check out

myspace.com/thefling

and

myspace.com/webarbarians

There is a scene. It is just small. But growing!

blogs are what have deprived mediocre bands like CWK of a chance to really find themselves and refine their sound. Instead establishing a dedicatev fanbase who their sound through the test of time, they're an underdeveloped collage of their obvious and explicit influences. This band doesn't break new ground, or take their influences and rework them with their own brand of creativity; thanks to the hype machine, they didn't have to. Instead of being know for their unique songcraft(which it isn't) they're getting postered for their on stage mania and their "ooo-oo, sounds like, old, and...blues-ish." And If their sound gets compared to a bar brawl one more time, I swear I'm gonna start one. Funny how when asked what this band aspires to, the reply was opening for Nick Cave. how obvious.

To be fair, think about how many shots are taken daily at Pitchfork and Rollingstone by bloggers.

Imo, we (music bloggers) and Big Media have a give and take relationship that will only heighten as blogs become more and more influential.
