Jay Reatard “It Ain’t Gonna Save Me”

jay reatard watch me fall

It seems strange but the upcoming Jay Reatard record, Watch Me Fall, is in fact his sophomore album (the proper follow up to his 2006 debut Blood Visions). The reason it seems so strange is that during the years since he released his pummeling debut, he has channeled his inner Bob Pollard and prolifically released amazing amounts of great new material. The songs, which found him peeling a layer of fuzz off his sound and have seen him display a remarkable ear for catchy pop melodies, have been featured on two amazing discs, Singles ‘06-’07 and Matador singles ‘08. The first single from Watch Me Fall, “It Ain’t Gonna Save Me,” follows the path laid out by the astonishing singles from the last few years with its bright and punchy guitar lines and Reatard’s clear and confident vocals. The song, which shows the clear talent Reatard has at his disposal, leaves Watch Me Fall one of my most anticipated CDs coming out this summer. Hopefully the disc lives up to the staggering heights of this great first single.
