Jet: New Single “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is”

A few weeks back I was invited out to a small bar near my house by a friend, and being the kind gentleman I am, I agreed. Once at the bar, we met his friends, all “middle-aged” women who some might consider slightly past their prime; presuming their prime once existed. It was an interesting crowd, mostly Midwestern borderline-rednecks with a slight chagrin showing through while seamlessly pouring down their social laxatives. We sat by the back of the bar, far away from the band was playing until a little ditty by White Zombie started blasting, and we were dragged to the absolute frontest of front rows by our energetic friends. (Sidenote: some might find it interesting to note that Minnesota Twin’s great Tony Oliva’s son was the guitarist for the band)
Standing at the front of the bar I was faced with a quandary, and was forced to make a decision. I could sit and stew about how much fun I’m not having, or dance like a man recently given his walking papers, freed from prison. I danced. And when the ubiquitous cover tune, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by one Jet started playing, I, having committed the lyrics to memory, accompanied my amazing dancing with some of the most graceful bellows and moans this crowd has ever seen. And when the singer knelt down and offered the microphone to my partner and I, I mustered up my energy, looked him straight in the eyes, and belted,
“Are you gonna be my man?”
Don’t get me wrong, I really dig the ladies, but I figured it terribly funny at the time. The singer revoked my microphone privileges for the rest of the evening and throughout the remainder of the evening continued glancing my direction, with looks of confusion and, possibly interest.
That being said, here’s the new track from Jet, “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.” And by God, it’s good. Or at least it’s good for now, until you hear it everywhere else, and remember back to when you heard it first and reminisce “Man, I remember when I liked this song before everyone else did” and start hating it.
