I had just discovered this new band, with a raw, powerful sort of sound. Me and Youth, and Young Manhood had just entered an exiting
relationship. This ” Dylan-esque” singer!!! A voice like the greats. Instantly one knows that is KOL. The most famous singers have this quality. Robert Plant, Steven Tyler,Brian Johnson,Mick Jagger, Chris Cornell….immediately one knows who he is listening to.
So why did KOL fire their singer, and replace him with Blah! This new vocalist is ho-hum..dime-a-dozen. Sorry to say…KOL have gone Hollywood. Whether it was Mom, Dad, or some slick producer it amounts to the same. KOL has an identity crisis. Only By The Night is NOT KOL. Youth, and Young Manhood is their very best. Now that was a musical identity!!!
So now I am tempted to copy that earlier identity, and run with it!!!

I’ll try and keep this nice as possible.let me start by saying i think these critics (not my preferred title)are in a minority,judging by the recognition and accolades they are currently receiving.kol have long been a top band in Europe and they finally getting the recognition they deserve.oh well like they say opinions are like a**holes,everybody has one.these guy’s just stink more than most.

Yacht rock? I’m not quite sure if KoL is ready to take over that niche from the likes of Hall & Oates or Toto, but we’ll see. Lol.

Anyway, I’ve enjoyed the growth of this band. I love their first two albums for the punchy rock and irreverence, and I love the new stuff with its layering and pop sensibility. Yes, the P word. Ultimately, they are rock revivalists and are doing a fantastic job of trying new sounds and styles. Even if I didn’t like them so much, I’d still commend them for their talent, flexibility and willingness to experiment.

FINALLY!!! Some music I can get excited about. I am OBSESSED with this band!! Hope they don’t pay any attention to the critics and just keep on doing their thing. I think they’re GREAT!!!!

I know the slight departure can change your level of acceptance, but change is good and bands get bored. Embrace change if you are ready for it.

Absolutely – change is one of the key elements of life. I can only speak for myself, and not the three other people who reviewed the album here, but I’m not sure that it’s “change” that is being questioned as much as the direction of that change.
