Kings of Leon release video for “Notion,” prepare to undersell Target Center

Last year’s Only By The Night most definitely served as a turning point for Kings of Leon as the band glossed over its production and aimed its songs at a new audience. And that audience has responded with tremendous support for the band, boosting Kings of Leon’s first two singles (“Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody”) to the top of Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks charts. Now releasing it’s fourth single, “Notion,” the band has announced a slew of North American dates that will eventually bring it back to the Twin Cities where it will perform at Minneapolis’ Target Center.

As the TC Decider pointed out yesterday however, when the band came to town last November it played the Orpheum Theatre which holds a mere 2,500 people. The question that follows is, how in the hell are they supposed to fill an 18,000 seat arena? What has changed since November? Kings of Leon are as popular as the band has ever been, but I’m not quite sure they’re that popular.

I think the fact that they are bringing Glasvegas and White Lies serves to reiterate my feelings about those two bands.

  • Totally unfair, Josh. You and your inherent hatred of most British music-tsk, tsk. It’s like Jon and his hatred of all bands that don’t have women in them. Just because they don’t have fat, balding front men doesn’t mean that they make bad music :)

  • Which bands do I like that have fat balding front men? That being said, even if I did, I would choose that over a Joe Strummer look-a-like with greaser hair and a homemade sleeveless T-shirt. ;-)

  • this show is only a half house fwiw… i think they might pull in 5,000-7,500, which would def come close to filling up a half house setup

it won’t be nearly as awful as when Franz Ferdinand, Pretty Girls Make Graves & Cut Copy did a half house @ Target Center and 1500 showed up.
