Lil Wayne feat. Eminem “Drop The World” Video

It’s easy to dismiss Lil Wayne’s Rebirth as a passing phase (albeit a wretched phase that will apparently take upwards of 10 more videos to see release before passing), but to completely disregard “Drop The World” is to do the song a discredit. Sure, Wayne’s verses are ultimately forgettable, but Eminem’s addition to the song gives it a sharp, almost dangerous appeal that the rest of the album ends up lacking.

What’s most interesting about the video isn’t any of that however. At 1:27 or so Wayne holds up his hand to reveal a tattoo on his palm that reads “The World.” Now, getting “The World” tattooed on your hand sounds a bit like something that might make a lot of sense at the time, although in hindsight, might not be that great of an idea at all (are palm tattoos ever a “great idea” though?). Case in point: having the tattoo allows Lil Wayne to say that he literally has the world in his hand. In and of itself that’s kind of cool, I’ll give him that. That said, I imagine that saying you have “The World in your hand” could take on a completely different meaning in prison.
