Lil Wayne “Prom Queen”
Though it serves as the lead single from Lil Wayne’s forthcoming Rebirth, if “Prom Queen” were released by anyone but Weezy, it simply wouldn’t matter. But it is, and as such it matters. Regrettably continuing the trend of the ‘MC rock record,’ “Prom Queen” is, at best, an utterly boring stab at the lowest level of modern rock. Its chugging powerchords and broken-hearted lyrics are entirely unexpected from a man who is essentially the King Midas of excitement. None of it holds a candle to the body of work that has helped give (at least a shred of) credibility to his ongoing claim of being the best rapper alive. Though, what did we really expect? While being far from his first stab at the guitar, Wayne’s noodling during “Lollipop” on his Saturday Night Live appearance signaled an awkward indication towards what was first thought to be a passing phase. But it was simply a taste of things to come… an unessential, unnecessary taste of things to come.
Outside of this, I’ve never heard any of his music but that was just terrible.

Wayne’s hottest album is the Carter 2…….Carter one he was warming up, Carter 3 he was hot, and diverse actually it’s a tie between the Carter 3 and 2…..both are pretty amazing…..

Quit the hating. OK so maybe it isn’t the HOTTEST shit he’s done, he is a rapper c’mon, cut the man some slack. I personally like the song, had to listen to it a couple times, but I got it. The fact that WAYNE can do this, is why the man sells 1.5 million albums in a week. He’s different. He’s not like every other rapper. Okay. Props to him for doing something out of his genre. That is what good musicians/entertainers do. They go above what their perceived standard is. Get over it. It’s the same as if a predominantly country singer/artist went hip hop or even r&b. It’s something new. Remember “Walk This Way”? I’m sure people thought it was sucky and not cool since it was hip hop and rock. But who cares? Not me. Joaquin Phoenix is talking about being a rapper, and yet.. Yo I’m a huge Weezy fan, but I think that Prom Queen is a terrible song. All you fools who are denying it JUST because he’s the best RAPPER alive need to shut up and start being real. Weezy doesn’t need your respect or encouragement. The boy is stanky rich and it doesn’t really matter if this song is a hit or not. Just because you don’t like the song doesn’t mean you’re being disrespectful or that you’re any less of a fan. Bottom line, the song is horrible because 1) we expect more from Weezy, and 2) it’s just plain boring. If you like this song JUST because you’re a fan of Weezy then you’re a band-wagon-hopping follower who has no opinion. Done.
I got more to say. Just because people hate the song doesn’t make them a “hater.” I think Weezy is a crazy hott rapper. I bump his shit all day long. But what is the point of “trying something new” if it’s not good. Usually artists try new things because they think they can make an impression and actually succeed. This song is not successful and if it is any indication of the rest of The Rebirth then that would be a huge let-down, especially for me as a fan. I had high hopes for this single and this album because it’s Weezy. How could he do wrong with music? He has proved that he is the best rapper alive (until Eminem comes back). He has also proven that he is the worst rocker alive.

Wayne isn’t doing anything unique with this song, not in 2009, and not in the late 1990s when other groups like Cypress Hill were tinkering with hard riffs in their music, and not in the 1980s when DMC & Aerosmith or the Beasties did their thing.

I had no idea who ” Weezy” was until my neice came to visit me, I recieved a crash course quickly. I am not a huge fan of rap but there are a few songs I do like of his. I think his crossover with more rock is a great strategic move in his career. I really like and can relate with the song “Prom Queen”. It is amazing what a little money and success can do when dealing with idiots from high school. Even if you do not appreciate the category of music he makes, you need to appreciate his brilliance for his creative mind. After reading on how he has handled the business side of his career, again brilliant. As for the weapons and drug charges….I can see why a man who is such a genius smokes so much weed, his mind never shuts down. When you have the fame he does it is a personal security to carry a weapon. I would recommend seeing a doctor for the over active mind and having a concealed weapons permint.

i actually liked this album. Knockout Prom queen and On fire are the best on it, but drop the world was good too. I liked how he did something new, and because of it, i kind of appreciate rock more
