The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Local News: The Polyphonic Spree, Kelly Clarkson, Tapes ‘n Tapes, H.I.M. & Paul Westerberg

Submitted by Chris DeLine on September 5, 2007 – 8:00 am3 Comments

The Polyphonic Spree will be returning to town in mid-October after playing an amazing show this past July. (Star Tribune)

Kelly Clarkson will be playing the State Theatre in early November…she might not be the finest pop singer around but at least she’s not Fergie. (Billboard)

Tapes ‘n Tapes, The Ocean Blue, The Melismatics, So It Goes, The Deaths and the ever-lovely Coach Said Not To will all be performing September 23 at the Fine Line as a part of a benefit concert for Mercedes Gordon. (Reveille Magazine)

Tapes ‘n Tapes “Cowbell”
The Melismatics “GroupThink”
The Deaths “Birmingham”
Coach Said Not To “Be My Pigeon”

H.I.M. will be returning to town, playing the Myth in October. (Blabbermouth)

Paul Westerberg will be playing an invite-only show at First Avenue on September 23rd.  Dear Mr. Westerberg, I’m not originally from Minneapolis, and I did not grow up listening to The Replacements…but I’m an honest person for the most part, and I’d honestly love to see this show! (Cities 97)

  • John says:

Kelly Clarkson may not be the best pop singer out there, but, she’s the BEST pop/rock singer out there. This chick has some pipes on her, that you ain’t gonna find from anyone on the scene at the moment!

  • Chris DeLine says:

I actually have a hard time not liking her…she drunkenly went on stage with Metal Skool a while back and really surprised me with how much power her voice can convey.

  • John says:

Her voice has a TON of power, I don’t know where it comes from, because she really is tiny in person. My wife dragged me to her concert once (and I mean dragged, cause i’m a rock guy, all the way) but, boy was I impressed. Check out some live performances on youtube. Put it this way, she won’t have to drag me next time, I’m more than willing to see and hear her again.
