Video: Louis CK on the Late Show with David Letterman

Louis CK’s performance on last night’s edition of the Late Show with David Letterman was an important one for a number of reasons. The first, and maybe the most notable, is that it marks the former Late Night writer’s return to the show after an unofficial 15 year ban, something Louis spoke to during a recent interview with GQ (via HuffPo), “I loved doing that show. Dave’s my favorite. Dave’s who I watch — I wrote for him. And I did the show five times or so, and I’ve been told that I’m not okay there anymore.” After making the late-night rounds earlier this month, stopping in on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Daily Show, in doing an actual set on Letterman he further showed his dexterity as a performer, which might ultimately be the most important aspect of his appearance. Known for his blue humor and comfortable relationship with vulgar and crude subject matter, the Letterman spot was family friendly and still entirely funny. And that’s part of what makes Louis CK great: he’s not afraid to go to the dark places in life, but at the end of the day he’s still a family man at heart, struggling to find the same balance with his life as the rest of us. (Gotcha Media had it first.)
