Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles talk MPLS art scene on Northern Outpost

Prior to Northern Outpost‘s excellent performance footage, Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles discussed the blossoming art scene in Minneapolis and how it’s changing the way people are approaching music, both as listeners and musicians. It’s an interesting reflection, contrasting the way people listen to live (bar) music in cities and towns where its purpose is only to act as background noise to how others look at it as an attraction or event.

Last month the band was one of many musical acts supporting Voltage: Fashion Amplified 2009. Photographers Sara Montour, Jenn Barnett and Dan Schultz have photo coverage of the band’s performance.

After playing last night’s Memory Lanes Block Party, the band has one upcoming performance scheduled: June 20 @ the New Deal Lounge.

Join other young professionals for an evening of Prohibition-era revelry, featuring Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles. Lucy and her band will play two long sets against a ’30s-inspired backdrop with great views of downtown Minneapolis.

Enjoy a hosted bar, light bites and games of chance in The New Deal Lounge, then at 11pm you can stick around for Lucy’s second set, or “Crash the Ball” and dance the night away to music by the Power of Ten.
