Marie Antoinette: The Party That Started The Revolution Update

In all honesty in most all cases since Rushmore I haven’t had much taste for Jason Schwartzman. His awkward role in the comedic Slackers creeped me out rather than making me laugh (with him) and I Heart Huckabees completely missed its mark. His role in Sophia Coppola’s upcoming Marie Antoinette: The Party That Started The Revolution might actually suit him. Just ask Toby Maguire, playing a role opposite Kirsten Dunst can’t really do a whole lot of bad for you. Touted not only for its cast & production team its soundtrack is mentioned as one of the best of the year. Though the marketing team focuses highly on New Order and Gang of Four being featured it is the overwhelmingly liberal use of such 80’s acts as Bow Wow Wow, Adam Ant, Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure that really interests me. Well, that and…wait…I know that song…the song in the introduction of the trailer…ah yes…Richard D. James anyone?

Upcoming? I saw Marie Antoinette months ago in Marseille. Schwarzman looked kind of… fat… and teetered uneasily between pathos and odiosity. That Sofia Coppola probably thought she could repeat her trick of stealing stars from Wes Anderson. But I think Bill Murray was probably a one-off and Godfather III is more indicative of her true… worth. Scarlett’s run off with Bob Dylan now apparently. Lots of Siouxsie Sioux on the soundtrack – very Age of Enlightenment. Perhaps if you have it this could be an excuse to post that jolly tinkly music from Rushmore. That’d be nice. Er… thanks anyway.
