The Amherst trio had towers of amps stacked up all over the stage, including one that was pointed directly towards front man J Mascis, in case his monitors weren’t providing him enough of his own guitar sound. And not having enough sound has never really been a problem for the group, and it certainly wasn’t on this evening as the band tore through a fiery 90 minute set that spanned the band’s entire career.

Maskinen “Dansa Med Vapen”

After Bonde Do Role released one of my favorite albums of 2007 (not to mention that they also added one of the best live shows in the Cities that year) I was very disappointed to hear that key player Marina Ribatski (Marina Gasolina) had departed from the group. No word yet on whether Bonde’s two new singers can make up for the big absence, but it is at least good to hear that Ribatski is still in the game. The feisty Brazilian’s latest project is actually a guest appearance on Maskinen’s “Dansa Med Vapen,” where her vocals make a big impression on the chorus. Like Bonde’s work, “Dansa” is a pure tropical club banger, with guttural Portuguese rapping over pulsating keyboards and hot beats. Video ain’t bad either.
